This week for TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge we are to use ‘teacup’. I took this photo at my sister’s house as she always makes an occasion out of it when she has visitors. In my house, you get a mug and like it, but hers you get a pretty cup and saucer and tea made in the teapot too!
So onto the haiku:
Glorious sunshine
sipping tea in the garden….
but where is the cake?
Shall I bring some over?

Love this! Does your sister use a tea cosy as well? I’m trying to find people who actually use those things. I know they exist, hehe, just never met anyone who uses them.

Yes she has one. So do I actually. I grew up with tea being made in a pot with a tea cosy keeping it warm. My nan knitted them as well! People don’t tend to use them nowadays though 😊

I think that’s very cool. My mother’s neighbour knits chair socks, like woolen slippers but for chairs 🙂 Do English chairs use slippers too?

Oh how cute! No I have not seen little chair slippers. Older people used to have little lace things that the put over the arms and backs of settees and chairs! Almost like a doily type thing.

Yes, I remember the doilies. I think more traditional households still have that look as well as the older generation.

Oh and I just had to tell you this one.. Yesterday I was reading about how, in the past, piano legs were deemed to be ‘too shapely’ and therefore a little risque. In some households they made little ‘pantlettes’ to cover them up and make them ‘more respectable.’ 🙂

Gawd! So odd. Lol. Men getting lascivious thoughts because those piano legs are “too shapely”!! That’s one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. So interesting though. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I have a friend here in NYC who grew up in Manchester, I love going to her house for chats. She always breaks out the tea set and there is always cake. I love it!
