Today we have quite a weighty prompt word for Linda’s Just Jot it January prompt, ‘honourable.’ Honour is very important to me and I like to think that I am a person who acts with decency and integrity. Although I don’t consider myself a naive person, I have been shocked a some of the practices people carry out, thinking nothing of it, yet for me, it is dishonourable and/or dishonest.
- Whilst at university, handing in assignments that have either been proofread by an English teacher or looked over and corrected by a senior nurse!
- Taking part in a fun office quiz in a group of about 20 where I was the only one who had never tried any illegal drugs of any kind. (I smoked and drank alcohol though)!
- Knowing that some people are working, and claiming benefit, and seeing them enjoy all their latest gadgets and going off on foreign holidays!
- Listening to a conversation between two people where one of them takes credit for some of the things others have said or done.
- People using the automated ‘scan and shop’ service at supermarkets and not scanning all their items.
- Sitting in a room full of women at break time, and hearing them slag someone off as soon as they leave, yet they had been chatting with her two minutes before.
- Hearing two stories recently of people stealing other blogger’s work and claiming it as their own.
I know that some of this stuff probably seems petty, and I am not trying to portray myself as better than anyone else, I have done my fair share of stupid things, but hopefully, I still have my, ahem, honour intact! 
I can add a few too:
1. Bosses making assistants do some very critical work like writing policies and so on and they sending them off as if they had created them.
2. Getting credit in publications without have contributed to the research or writing of any of them- Ghost authorship
3. Women looking down on workers who enter malls and gape at them, and denying them the right to get into the very malls which they have built up- talk of double standards. I agree “gaping” at stylish women is not honourable but to complain about them and about them as ” those workers”- I don’t think reflects very well on themselves.
3. Discriminating at work places based on religion or skin color or just for being different when the discriminators have nothing really great to write home about – like gossiping, maligning others ( as you mentioned above) or even creating groups in offices and making people feel left out.
4. Obese children being targeted in schools for looking and eating different

It seems no families teach honour, integrity and dignity any more.
Its all about money, making more money and more money all the time.

Thank you so much for your thoughts Susie. I agree with all of those you mentioned, particularly the children being targeted. It is a shame that some people have much lower values these days.

Nobody’s perfect, as you say, but there are some who wouldn’t know the meaning of “honourable” if it came up and bit them. That one about blogging is particularly awful for me to hear, but I wish women, as a rule, weren’t so horrible to one another, when we left the room, behind each other’s backs.

As it was already said: Nobody is perfect. That’s what holds the important lessons for everybody. I am not proud of many things I did because I did not know it any better at that moment. But we should simply do our best and when we see that we hurt someone (when even not deliberately) or when we are mistaken we should have the backbone to apologize and take responsibility for that. We should always be able to look into the mirror. Even when we try to lie at ourselves, one day we cannot deny the truth anymore! That is a wonderful and very open post. Big hugs, Judy!

I never understood the fake friend or gossiping thing either. That’s one of my greatest annoyances. Be real and honest. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if your opinion is you don’t like me that’s fine! Even if I don’t like them back I would atleast respect them for their honesty.

They’re not petty at all Judy. These are things that indicate the character of those that do them and niggle because you know it’s cheating over those who haven’t done the same.
