Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge: Miracle

Ron’s turn this week for his and Colleen’s Writer’s Quote Challenge. He has given us ‘miracle’ to use as our prompt word, and I have found the perfect quote to go with it!

“Just because you can explain it doesn’t mean it’s not still a miracle.”

– Terry Pratchett

The cry of a newborn baby

As he takes his first gulp of air

Despite being born at 28 weeks

He’ll survive with lots of care

The patient who has cancer

Given six months to survive

Yet five years on and still going strong

So happy to be alive

The changing of the seasons

Each one of them delights

With the freezing winter mornings

And the balmy summer nights

The planets in the night sky

Even going to the moon

Things that were once thought impossible

Will be reality soon

Miracles are all around us

From the moment of our birth

We just need to take time to notice

The beauty and wonder of this earth

Poke Salad ? — August 12, 2016

Poke Salad ?

I have started reading this too and as Van says, Linda has a natural gift for storytelling. 🙂

My plans for a busy day were ruined the moment I downloaded Linda’s new book.

It was much anticipated, maybe from the moment I met her in person last summer.Poke

She and her mother have a gift for telling a story.

And it shows.

They took me back to a time and place that made me understand a lot more about my own family, and how they survived the Great Depression of the 1930’s.

They did it with love, devotion to family, tremendous sacrifice, hard work and most of all, a sense of humor.

Thank you for proving that it is possible to put that storytelling tradition in words on a page.

And thank you for ruining my plans of yesterday.

It was a delight.

**The book is now available in Kindle. I didn’t want to wait for the paperback.

Writer’s Quote on Wednesday Writing Challenge- Innocence. — August 10, 2016

Writer’s Quote on Wednesday Writing Challenge- Innocence.

Oooh, quite a tricky prompt for Colleen & Ronovan’s  Writer’s Challenge post. Collen has given us ‘innocence to work with. I came across this quote which summed up innocence perfectly for me.

“When we are children we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind.”

  • Patrick Rothfuss

Those carefree days of childhood

Spent playing in the sun

Staying out from dawn till dusk

Laughing and having fun.

Playing footie on the field

Or swimming on a rope

Looking forward to each day

Fresh faces filled with hope.

Dancing with abandon

Free from worry and strife

No thought for the future

Just enjoying life

Relishing each moment

Splashing in the sea

Staying round a friend’s house

Having fish and chips for tea

Innocence is precious

As it doesn’t last that long

Savour every moment

As once it’s gone, it’s gone!
