Episode 474: New Horizons — August 27, 2015

Episode 474: New Horizons

I mentioned before in a previous post that something might be on the horizon work wise for me, but at that point I didn’t want to elaborate in case I jinxed it! Well, I can now reveal that today I went for a job interview – and I got the job!

I had been feeling a little disgruntled at work one way or another, as some of you know, I have tried to address these issues but decided that it might now be a good time to spread my wings and look around to see what else is out there for me.

Despite being a creature of habit and having a fantastic group of friends that I work with, I decided that I need to challenge myself a little more and do something new. So when a job came up for what I am qualified to do (they are very few and far between), I decided to apply for it, and was delighted to be invited for an interview today.

Despite being very nervous, I managed to reply appropriately  to all of the scenarios I was given, and the interviewers were pleased by the massive portfolio I took in (Well I thought they might like to flick through it)which they did.

I thought I might not hear anything until Tuesday as we have a Bank Holiday on Monday, but I got the call 2 hours after my interview offering me the job.  I am now going to be part of the District Nursing team visiting people in their homes. This will hopefully be a new and exciting side to my career and I am really looking forward to it.

Episode 473: #BeWoW Post. Fantastic Friends. — August 26, 2015

Episode 473: #BeWoW Post. Fantastic Friends.

You may remember that I wrote a post recently about my hideous experience at the Health and Well-Being Appointment that I attended. (If you missed it you can find it here).

Apple-shaped!

I have been overwhelmed at the response I got from my wonderful blogging friends since this post was published. I have had so many messages of support and encouragement that have really touched me deeply.

I just wanted to let you know that you are all brilliant, and I realise that I have many more friends than I realised.

Thank you

Episode 472: Wacky Word Wednesday #16. —

Episode 472: Wacky Word Wednesday #16.

Wednesday is here again so soon, and I have been toying with a couple of words this week that have caught my fancy. The one I have settled on, is a word that seems to have a comical air about it before it has even been applied to anything. although it is not something that I would want flung in my direction!

Flabby. This word is flaccid and floppy, droopy and dangling, It is that loose bit of skin under your arms that is wiggly and jiggly, wobbling about like a party jelly that has only just set, and is desperate to slide off the plate.

Years ago when I had attempted to make Yorkshire pudding, my efforts were described as ‘flabby’ by a male friend of my sister’s! This could have been due to the fact that it was rather limp and lacklustre!

Being a bit out of shape, and rather baggy and saggy myself, this word aptly describes my figure!

Episode 471: Tuesday Tidbit: Role Play? (18+) — August 25, 2015

Episode 471: Tuesday Tidbit: Role Play? (18+)

Let’s try something new tonight

Our love life is such a bore

The 10-minute bonk once a month

Has become another chore!

We need to add a bit of spice

To get the juices flowing

What about some dressing up?

That might get us going!

You make a sexy doctor

In your scrubs and stethoscope

It’s been a while since I felt the urge

 To have a little grope!

Come here and have a listen

To the beating in my chest

Then thrust your tongue inside my mouth

As your hands caress my breasts.

I feel you growing harder,

As I stroke along your length

My breathing is getting faster

And I’m losing all my strength

As you slip inside me.

My legs wrapped around your waist

I kiss you deeply, probing

Savouring your taste.

The pounding and the arching

And then the final thrust

Then follows the explosion

Of pure, unbridled lust.

My breathing back to normal

Clothes are re-arranged

“Nurse, hurry with that linen

There are patients to be changed!”

Episode 470: Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt #59. Bird and Red

Thank you to Ronovan for giving us ‘bird’ and ‘red’ for our prompt words this week on his Haiku Challenge.

I had some fun with this one, and this is what I came up with.

What makes me see red?

Launch me from a catapult,

I’m an Angry Bird!

Angry Bird.

Episode 469: Five Fashion Favourites for Foul Weather! — August 23, 2015

Episode 469: Five Fashion Favourites for Foul Weather!

We have had a few heavy downpours today as the weather is so hot and humid. I thought it might be a bit of fun to share with you some wet weather gear from past and present, designed to keep us dry whilst keeping an eye on fashion (well, whatever it was at the time anyway):

I remember my Nan had one of these. She never went anywhere without it and it folded down into around an inch square. By the time she unwrapped it, her little bit of candy floss hair was soaked!!

The good old mushroom brolly. I remember walking to the bus stop after school smoking, when this umbrella barged into me and demanded to know my name and which form I was in. Underneath this mushroom lurked a very short, bad-tempered teacher, who was well-hidden in its depths. She reported me!

Mushroom Brolly

These head umbrellas were quite popular. I was going to share with you a photo of my brother sporting one of these along with his 80’s perm and sunglasses (?) but I value my life too much for that, so here it is modelled by a head instead.Head unbrella.

Of course, you can’t leave your little four-legged friend to get soaked so here is one for the pampered pooch.

Doggy Raincoat

Now, I have saved the very best till last. This needs no explanation other than WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING?!!!

Episode 468: An Apple A Day…… — August 22, 2015

Episode 468: An Apple A Day……

Last week saw me at an appointment with a ‘Health and Well-Being Advisor.’  I am having a bit of trouble managing my weight still  and am seriously lacking in motivation due to being in a bit of a low mood. Anyway, this, of course, is having a knock-on effect with my Diabetes and I am constantly getting other minor things wrong which are annoying.

Anyway, time to take things in hand and I trotted off, to be told what I already knew, that I was overweight and unhealthy. Unfortunately, things were worse than I had anticipated. I had reluctantly braved the scales that morning to see what the damaged was, and was not impressed with the figures, despite trying not to put all my weight on there and make it worse! The problem with having a big tummy us that you can’t see the display on the scales so my balancing act was not helping and I had to let loose the full load!

I was greeted by a very slim and smiley woman who assured me that we would be able to sort something out and get me into some kind of diet and exercise routine. My height and weight were measured (in metric, I had done it in feet and inches and stone as the figures were smaller), and then my BMI (body mass index), was worked out.

I had done enough of these myself on patients to know that the result was not going to be pretty and it wasn’t. Morbidly obese! Morbidly obese, Oh My God, how the hell did I let myself get into this state.

The next little treat was the hips to waist ratio. Christ, please let my hips be bigger than my waist….PLEASE!  I jokingly mentioned that there was not a lot in it, and sure enough it was only 3cms. Again I joked that I had not been blessed with an hourglass figure. At least my hips were bigger than my waist…JUST!

These numbers were crunched on the computer and it was gauged on a coloured thermometer type thing. Needless to say, it shot straight up to the top which was not only red but had a sad face emoticon to add insult to injury! Well, actually that was not the only insult as there was an explanation as to each category and mine was ‘over fat.’ Over fat,  How bloody rude! Kick a girl when she is down why don’t you.

She then wanted to see what my fitness levels were. What hideous torture have they got planned for me this time? I wondered. Luckily, it was just a sit to stand test to see how many I could do in 30 seconds. I actually passed this one with flying colours, having completed 15 when the average was 12. Mind you, thinking about it, who was it average for? Not some young athletic type I am sure of that!

The penultimate check was the good old body fat measure. I had to stand gripping what looked like a steering wheel device for the WiiFit, with my arms outstretched until it scanned me over and displayed my overall blubber content! Well, at least it was less than half!!!

Last but by no means least, was a questionnaire to assess mood. Well as you can imagine, it was right down there in the lowest quarter. It might have been a bit better if they had done that first, but I doubt it would have been by much.

I came home armed with charts and wheels and ‘My Fitness Pal’ app downloaded on my phone; my already low self-esteem in tatters!

Maybe this is just the kick up the arse I need to do something about it!

Free-For-All Friday #25 —

Free-For-All Friday #25

The week has whizzed by again and here we are for another roundup of some fantastic posts that have caught my eye this week, and it is a real mixed bag of treats for you. There is humour, sadness, wisdom and wit in abundance for your delectation. I highly recommend visiting these blogs, because they all have a variety of other posts that are just as wonderful.

Myths of the Mirror This is a post that I think many of us can relate to. Not only do I love the humourous way it is written, I can’t imagine how I would feel if I were in the position where I was taking a break for a week!

The 9th Life A thought-provoking post that makes us look at things in a different way – literally!

Shawn Bird An absolutely brilliant poem from a different perspective. It very cleverly makes a point albeit a very polite one compared to what most of us would have liked to have said if we had been in this position!

TanGentle I loved this post. Geoff had this way of writing that is just so funny. Although I have never met him (I hope to at the next Bloggers Bash), I just know he is going to make me laugh constantly with his dry humour.

Silver Threading This was another excellent poem but in a totally different way. The image that goes with it matches perfectly. I have been in this position and this poem sums it up so well.

My Travels With Depression. This post was quite remarkable yet bittersweet. I don’t want to say anymore and spoil it, but it was amazing.

Ben’s Bitter Blog This post is something I like to moan at, but from the other side of the argument! I have to say, the humorous way he has written it, has almost made me change my mind!

These wonderful posts should keep you all highly entertained this weekend.

Happy Friday!
