Free-For-All Friday #21

It’s Friday already, how this week has raced past. Time to take it easy now and relax with some wonderful reading material, courtesy of our wonderful blogging friends. This week I have chosen some thoughtful, funny, thankful and downright silly posts for you to enjoy. Please do go and visit these blogs as they all have loads more posts that are just as brilliant!

Beyond The Picket Fence This post is something I dread when my daughter gets a bit older, especially when I remember what I was like!  This is thoughtful and honest and I enjoyed it.

Nutsrok Now Linda’s blog always guarantees a good laugh. She is one fantastic story-teller with a wacky family which always gives her plenty of fodder for her posts. This post is a little different but no less funny.

The Ninth Life Although this is a very short post, it is no less inspirational, and I could certainly relate to it.

A View From My Summerhouse  As you now I love a bit of Flash Fiction. Here it is done with a slight twist as it is in the form of a poem.

But I Smile Anyway. Ritu’s blog always has a bit of everything on it, but all of it is positive and happy. This short post is very good advice indeed.

A Prompt Reply This post was lovely. The photos were so beautiful, and it is lovely to hear about someone discovering a new passion!

Susie Speaks A positive and happy post, reminding us all that we do have many wonderful things in our lives when we stop and think about it.

I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did.

Happy Friday everyone 🙂

Episode 358: #BeWow Post: My Favourite Positive Quote. — June 3, 2015

Episode 358: #BeWow Post: My Favourite Positive Quote.

For our BeWow posts this week, Rovonan has suggested we might like to share our favourite quotes on positivity. I love this one:

‘Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.’ Albert Einstein.

To me, this quote speaks volumes. When I was growing up I was not only extremely shy, but also painfully clumsy and awkward. This made for a terribly unfortunate combination, and I know many thought I was stupid. Being shy meant that I did not want to engage much in conversation (even now I am rubbish at small talk), so that gave the impression that I had nothing worth contributing. Added to that, when I did try to join in, I would either stumble over my words or say the wrong thing as I rarely think before I speak (I still do that, and only today had to amend a comment that I realised straight away I had got completely wrong)!

Throw the clumsiness into the mix, and you really have a walking disaster! I have been on the receiving end of many a strange look as I have plucked up the courage, launched myself into a room, only to go flying over something. As a teenager I took part in a German student exchange trip with my school. On my first morning in Germany as I went to go outside onto the balcony for breakfast, I walked smack bang into the glass doors and nearly knocked myself out!

However, this fish can swim, and I found that as I got older and became less shy, I also became more determined to prove that I am not completely stupid (ok so I am no way a genius either), and can do things with competently. (However I know that if I had to take blood from any of my family, they would run a mile at the sight of me coming at them with a needle, my patients though, do not have that luxury)!

The point is, we are all good at something. Just because we might not be dexterous or academic, does not mean that we are idiots, or stupid, and that is why I love this quote, as it highlights the fact that not only should we not judge others on things we consider they should be good at, but also the fact that if we do, it can have a devastating effect on them that can last a lifetime.

Episode 346: #BeWoW – How I Keep Positive. — May 26, 2015

Episode 346: #BeWoW – How I Keep Positive.

This is  my BeWoW post  as inspired  by Ronovan

Keeping positive is something that I am constantly striving to achieve, seeing as I have always tended to look on the negative side of things!

I think as I have got older I have become much more determined, and actually that does help me to focus on the positive, or at least to have a little more self-belief. Workwise, I still have ambition, and want to try to move up another rung on the ladder, and being negative and doubting my ability will not help me get to where I want to be.

Suffering with depression as well, it can very often be difficult to keep positive, as I get times when I feel pretty useless, and rubbish at everything. This drags me down until I turn inwards, and just want to stay in and see nobody (except my husband and daughter). I realise that it is not healthy and am trying to combat this.

Enough of the doom and gloom now, and back to being positive. I think sometimes just reflecting on the things that I have in my life, that I am so thankful for helps too. For example, I have a beautiful daughter, wonderful husband and family as well as a job that I enjoy.

The warmer weather always improves my mood as well. Seeing the sunshine seems to lift my spirits and I realise that there is lots to look forward to; family BBQs, days at the beach, swimming in the sea. all the little pleasures that make life so enjoyable. These are all positive events.

I am also blessed that I have wonderful friends, work colleagues and of course, the blogging community. Interaction with other people for me is very important. Despite my being reclusive at times, I still like to interact with others, and being able to do so online is great for me when I am in hermit mode!

So staying positive is, for me, all about being grateful for what I have, having goals and achieving them, and being surrounded by wonderful and supportive family and friends.

Episode 338: Not A Positive Outcome! — May 21, 2015

Episode 338: Not A Positive Outcome!

I have read quite a few inspiring post lately about staying positive, focusing on all the good things rather than the negative. I am not too good at this but decided that it was time I turned things around and concentrated on the bright side of things.

Today was quite busy at work, and I was back to looking after my ladies again. It is a lovely day today and extremely hot and stuffy on the ward. Add to the mix a plastic apron and latex gloves (which are more often on than off) and it can get rather sweaty! (I should be a good couple of sizes smaller due to all the running around and sweating I do, but hey, I am not supposed to be negative)! Oh, and don’t forget to throw in the fact that my ladies get cold, so there are no windows open for longer than a nanosecond to let any air in either).

Anyway, a couple of ladies were upset due to an incident overnight, and I spent quite a lot of time talking to one of them to listen to her concerns, and give her some reassurance (Sister spoke to the other one). She seemed happy with what I had told her, and at the end of the conversation asked if it was ok if she could ask me a personal question. I of course, told her that it was, and she said,

“So when is your baby due?” Great! I have spent the last TWO MONTHS hula hooping trying to whittle myself a bloody waist, and that is what I get!  I was mortified (and so was she when I told her that I was not in fact pregnant). I am trying to find a positive to this, and the only thing I can come up with is at least she thinks I am still young enough to have a baby!

Daydreamer Challenge: Day 3 — April 8, 2015

Daydreamer Challenge: Day 3

Today the challenge is to write something nice about another blog that is participating in the ‘Daydreamer Challenge.’

That is not difficult at all for me to do, in fact, the only difficulty I have is selecting one blog, so I am going to choose two; both of which I am following anyway.

But I Smile Anyway. Ritu is someone I felt an immediate connection to. We have quite a lot in common, our sense of humour, we both like to write things ‘off the cuff’ and we also love to write a poem about anything and everything!

What I also love about Ritu’s blog is that you are never going to know what she is going to write about next! She has a wealth of inspiration which she draws upon to write her posts (I am not at all envious – much)! She is also a lovely person. Friendly and funny, and that is why I love her blog!

A Momma’s View I have been following this blog for quite some time now. This woman is a living dynamo! She is an excellent cook, takes beautiful photos, had two children which she home schools AND if that isn’t enough, is an author of not one, but three books!

I would love to have a bit of her stamina and dedication, that’s for sure! She is another one that helps and supports other bloggers which I admire greatly. She  is a very kind and lovely person as well.

As I said, it was extremely easy to be nice about these two wonderful blogs. Go and see for yourself, they are worth a visit for sure,
