Episode 385: An Ode to Dads. — June 21, 2015

Episode 385: An Ode to Dads.

Although my Dad is sadly no longer with us, I wanted to write a little poem as my tribute to him, and all the other lovely dads on Father’s Day.

A Dad is always there for you

To protect, and keep you from harm

A Dad is there to dry your tears

And hold you in his arms.

A Dad is there to help you

When you wobble on your bike

As well as vet your partners

None of whom he likes!

A Dad loves to take his kids out

To the park or perhaps the beach

He is there to remove the spider

That has made you scream and screech!

A Dad is very precious

In so many different ways

Treasure each and every moment

Not just on Father’s Day

Episode 321: RIP ‘You Sexy Thing!’ — May 9, 2015

Episode 321: RIP ‘You Sexy Thing!’

I might have mentioned on more than on occasion that I am a huge fan of the music of yesteryear, namely the 70s and 80s. I was therefore really saddened to hear of the death of Errol Brown, the lead singer of ‘Hot Chocolate’ a few days ago.

Who hasn’t pranced around to the stains of ‘You Sexy Thing.’ thinking it was written about them? Considering it was their best-selling hit and even featured in the film ‘The Full Monty’ (brilliant film), it was amazing to think that it originally started off as a ‘B’ side to another of their records, in the 1970s.

I remember being transfixed watching Errol, as he always seemed to wear rather. ahem, tight trousers which I am sure helped him along when he needed to hit the high notes. He also never seemed to age, looking and sounding the same 30 years after he first started out.

What I also liked about ‘Hot Chocolate’ was the fact that their music got us up dancing (I use that term loosely when it comes to me, but I always had a go) to hits such as ‘Every 1s A Winner’, ‘You Sexy Thing’ and ‘So You Win Again’ to name but a few.

On the flip side, I have been known to have shed a tear to ‘Emma’ and ‘I’ll Put You Together Again.’ They were an extremely versatile group, and Errol was responsible for writing many of their songs.

Although I am sad that Errol is no longer with us, I am grateful that he has left a legacy of such fantastic music behind that will continue to be enjoyed.

Episode 245: Five Photos, Five Stories – Day 1: Dad — March 24, 2015

Episode 245: Five Photos, Five Stories – Day 1: Dad

I recently received the following invitation from Author SB Mazing

I’m about to invite you to join in a challenge I recently accepted. Five Photos, Five Stories. I thought this challenge could present you with the opportunity of viewing blogging from a different angle, to do something different, anything that suits you for that matter. It’s entirely up to you. …

I thought, I might try this one, despite the fact that I am not the world’s best photographer! There are some rules that go with it which are as follows:

The Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge rules require you to post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo.  It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or simply a short paragraph – it’s entirely up to you.

So here is my attempt..

This picture is one of my favourites of my dad as he was so relaxed and happy. He and my step-mother had travelled up for my wedding to Mr Grump in 2009.  That was the last time he would visit us here as he died three years later, in April 2012.

I decided to write a poem for him,

Dad you were a gentleman

Always kind and fair

But when you got into a strop

You’d madly clutch your hair!

Dad you were a scholar

So clever and so wise

You also had an appetite

For curries, roasts and pies!

Dad you were a swimmer

In for your daily dip

But when dancing the Macarena

I thought you’d break a hip!

Dad, you were my hero

And although no longer here

I have my treasured memories

Of which I hold so dear.

I would like to invite Donna from Homemade naturally to join in.

Then each day, nominate another blogger to carry on this challenge.

Accepting the challenge is entirely up to the person nominated, it is not a command. And actually everyone can join in. So feel free to if you like the idea.
