Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘J’

The Blogging from A-Z Challenge has now arrived at my favourite letter. Yes the letter ‘J.’ This is the letter of my first name, and is rather curvy just like me! It can be jokey, or even jealous, but my word for today has a fantastic ring to it..so without further ado, let me introduce to you……

Jiggery-pokery. Although it is a fun-sounding word, it is actually rather sneaky. It tricks you with its skullduggery and lulls you into its cunning lair.

It is the smiley clown that goes to shake hands with you, and either squirts water out of a fake flower at you, or electrocutes you with a hidden buzzer in his hand!

It is the magician performing a bit of hocus pocus by making his glamorous assistant disappear in a puff of smoke, kind of a word.

Politicians are pretty good at a bit of jiggery-pokery too with their cheesy grins, promising all sorts, yet delivering nothing! A bit like my posts really! 🙂

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘I’ — April 10, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘I’

We are about a third of the way in now on the Blogging From A-Z Challenge  and I am having a lot of fun with some of the words I have chosen. Today we have the Innocuous letter ‘I.’ Yes, it looks innocent enough, but my word can be a bit on the naughty side.

Innuendo. This word is insinuated, saying one thing but implying another. It is quite often an allusion to improper or immoral behaviour,  or a veiled reference to smutty shenanigans!

Sexual innuendo is very often hard to grasp, but the more you keep at it, the easier it comes!

It is the ‘Carry On’ kind of humour, making something out of nothing type of comment; It works even better if the person you are talking to has a dirty mind as well!

I love this kind of word, as I have a filthy mind and a cackling laugh to match. Who says humour has to be always ‘good, clean fun?!’

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘H’ — April 9, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘H’

Blogging From A-Z Challenge today has us looking at the letter ‘H.’ This seems to be rather a staid and serious letter, being all proud and upright. However, my word for the day is far from it!

Higgledy-piggledy is a wonderful word on so many levels, It rhymes (always a bonus in my book), and it has a silly, wacky quality to it that is s appealing,  This word is all of a jumble, mixed up and in a mess.

It is the state of Miss Hap’s bedroom! It is stuff haphazardly chucked about all over the place; cupboards stuffed full of all sorts of junk, balancing precariously on top of each other just waiting to spring out at the poor unsuspecting sod that dares to open the door!

It is where everything is topsy-turvy, upside down, helter-skelter, and in complete disarray. There is no order in the chaos…

Sounds a bit like my posts really!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘G’ — April 8, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘G’

Here we are at week two of the Blogging From A-Z Challenge and the gorgeous letter ‘G.’ My glorious word for the day is gluttony.

A gastronomic, gourmet  of greediness; a shovelling in of tasty treats until you are sated and sick, then going back for more. Rapacious, ravenous appetites that yearn for gratification.

Or its other meaning; licentious lusting leading to orgasmic orgies of overindulgence.

Either way, it is not knowing when to stop, being self-indulgent to the extreme, wanton pleasure-seeking, and sensual overload. Debauchery and excess are essential for a gluttonous lifestyle!

Count me in! 🙂

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘F’ — April 7, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘F’

As the end of week one draws to a close for the Blogging From A-Z Challenge we find ourselves at the letter ‘F.’ Now there are a few words that I could do for this letter, but they would not be very polite, so I am going to opt for the beautifully sounding flummoxed.

Now this word is mystifying in a kind of ‘what’s going on?’ type of way. It is the vacant expressioned bamboozled look of someone totally discombobulated! It is the blank face of bafflement, the perplexed  look of puzzlement.

This word is for when you haven’t got a clue, The shrugged shoulders when you realise that something has just gone way over your head, and is way beyond your grasp! A bit like the feeling you get when reading one of my posts!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: The Letter ‘C’ — April 3, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: The Letter ‘C’

For the Blogging from A-Z Challenge today we have the curvaceous letter ‘C’. Now the word curvaceous is in itself worthy of a post of its own, but is too similar to ‘ample’ so my word for today is corny.

A sentimental, cheesy, old-hat kind of a word. It’s the Dad-dancing,  embarrassingly gushing love song, that almost  makes uncool great again! It is the mushy, slushy, DJ at a family wedding (and the ‘tunes’ that he plays).

The schmaltzy game show host that is so filled with corn, you want to put a skewer in him and slather him in butter! Some of the old films where the scenery wobbles and the plot line is as transparent as a specimen pot! These are all examples of corny at its finest……It pretty much sums up this post as well!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge – ‘B’ — April 2, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge – ‘B’

Day two of the Blogging from A-Z challenge and today we have the lovely letter ‘B.’

My word for today is blunder. Now this word is all about getting it wrong. (I manage to do this on a regular basis). It is a clumsy word, a gaffe, the art of ‘putting your foot in it.’ To me it also speaks of barging right in, unknowingly or not thinking; blurting something out, to the amazement of others present. It is also a word that makes me laugh, as it sounds old-fashioned, even a bit pompous. It is not often you hear somebody say it nowadays,

“Ooops, I am sorry, I just blundered.” No, they are more likely to say that they ‘cocked up’, ‘made a hash of it’ or maybe something a little stronger!

I think blunder is under-appreciated, and that is in itself a terrible blunder!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge Starts Here! — April 1, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge Starts Here!

I have been pretty excited about this challenge, and am thrilled that it is finally here!  So let’s kick off with the letter ‘A.’  Now my theme as I have previously mentioned here is ‘words’  so here is a great one to start with:

Ample – This is one sexy and voluptuous word!  It has quite an onomatopoeic  quality to it, as it conjures up images of roundness, and abundance (another good word). It is plentiful and generous. broad and accommodating. For some reason, in literature  the word ample is very often used in conjunction with ‘bosom’ (you can tell what type of books I read. Yes, I love a good bodice-ripper)! to describe some ‘buxom wench’ or matronly figure. I think this word is the perfect adjective to describe me (well it certainly beats ‘stocky)!

Episode 242: Blogging A-Z Challenge — March 23, 2015

Episode 242: Blogging A-Z Challenge

My two very dear blogging buddies Mary-Anne and Wendy had decided to enter themselves into the Blogging from A-Z challenge starting on April 1st. All three of us first ‘met’ in November whilst participating in the NaBloPoMo challenge, which we all successfully completed and have remained really close ever since.

Anyway, they asked me ages ago to join them, and, always being up for a challenge I of course said yes. Well, the time is nearly upon us, and everyone is discussing themes and stuff, and I had not even considered that yet, still believing myself to have plenty of time left.

So, I have given it some thought, and have decided that indeed I will go with a theme, one which I think suits me perfectly given my love for words. Yes, I am going for ‘words’ as my theme. Now I know that is ‘stating the bleeding obvious’ considering my posts would be pretty rubbish without them, but, I mean specific words.

Each day of the challenge I will try to come up with a word beginning with the relevant letter of the alphabet that appeals to me in some way, be it silly, random, underused or old-fashioned. I did kind of do a post about this when I did the Word For Wednesday challenge which I thoroughly enjoyed. Oh, and so it is in keeping with my blog, I will try to make it funny!

Episode 229: Spiffing Words That Need To Be Used More! — March 18, 2015

Episode 229: Spiffing Words That Need To Be Used More!

Further to my earlier post ‘Word for Wednesday’, I have now got a few more words rattling around in my brain, begging for release into the mighty blogosphere to be enjoyed. So here they are in all their glory!

Hobbledehoy. What a great word this is. My mum used to favour this word when warning us not to hang around with undesirables! Actually it means  ‘clumsy or awkward youth’ (that part summed me up pretty well actually) usually a boy. (You can’t win them all)!

Flighty. This word always makes me laugh. My two grandmothers had quite a bit of rivalry going on and my mum’s mum used to refer to my dad’s mum as being ‘flighty’. The reason for this was that my nan never married and nobody knew who my dad’s father was. This was rather shocking in 1929 and it was rumoured that she rather favoured the odd dalliance with a soldier! Flighty has a few definitions amongst which are: ‘irresponsible or silly behaviour, easily excited, skittish and flirtatious!

Cripes! This sounds very Enid Blyton to me! It is a kind of exclamation. As in. “Oh Cripes I forgot to bring along the ginger beer!” Or perhaps ” Cripes, I’ve just stubbed my toe, and I have an ingrown toenail)! A little on the namby-pamby (we’ll do that one next) side to me. Not much venom attached to it for my liking. It doesn’t quite cut it when you are hopping around in agony with a throbbing toe! That is where your good old ‘f’ word comes in handy!

Namby-Pamby. This is a lovely word. I like it even better because it rhymes (I am easily pleased). It can be used to describe a person as well, for example. “Oooh, look at him writing all that flowery poetry, he’s a bit of a namby-pamby.”  The meaning for this wonderful word is ‘weak, spineless, or sentimental.

Spiffing. This is a word that was used a lot by posh people in the past. Something like, “Oh Penelope, it would be simply spiffing if you could come to the Masquerade Ball” It just means ‘excellent’ or ‘splendid’ – but spiffing sounds so much better to me!

Rambunctious. Fabulous word, this one. It would probably have been used for something like this. ” Look at those rambunctious louts over there, causing a disturbance. Somebody had better call the Police!” The general meaning is ‘turbulent, difficult to control. noisy and out of hand.’

Well I hope you enjoyed this little trip down memory lane of seldom used words as much as I did writing it!
