This post is inspired by A Momma’s View and But I Smile Anyway.
Both of these lovely ladies have been awarded the ‘Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award’ which is very well deserved, They both have fantastic blogs, which, if you have not checked out yet, please do as you are missing out! Anyway, one of the questions asked was ‘what is your favourite animated film?’ and I decided to write a post about this as suggested by Momma.
Animated films, especially Disney ones, have always been a part of my life. i remember as a child always being taken to see the latest release. I cried in ‘Pinocchio’ when he got swallowed by the whale apparently. I loved ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Snow White’ although I was a bit scared of the evil step-mother (I was a sensitive child)!
Films like ‘The Lady and The Tramp’ and ‘The Aristocats’ were great as well, as was ‘101 Dalmatians.’ There always seemed to be some kind of moral in these films, and of course, they always had a happy ending, which made me feel better.
More recently we have the CGI films as well such as ‘Tangled’,’Despicable Me’ and the ‘Shrek’ films.I loved all of those. These films seem to consider the adults that are watching them as well, and there is normally a lot of humour in them that goes straight over a child’s head, but give the parents a good laugh. Donkey in ‘Shrek’ just makes me laugh every time he says anything!
I love the cleverness of ‘Shrek’ as well. Mike Myers is a genius in my opinion! The way he depicts the fairy tale characters is so funny. Look at how he made Prince Charming such a mummy’s boy, and a baddie as well; and what about mad Merlin in his little dress?! I could go on, but actually, I haven’t even got to my favourite film yet!
This brings me to ‘Up’, the story about an old man, a boy and a house. It had so many messages in this film; friendship, love, determination, dreams, sorrow, and finally acceptance. I have to say that both me and Mr Grump cried in this film (he is a big softy under all that grouchiness)!
It was the fact that the old man was so sad to lose his wife. They had built a dream together and he was going to see it through right to the end, despite the many obstacles that were put in his way. However, it transpired after looking through his wife’s scrap-book that he had already fulfilled her dream before she died. I also thought it was so touching how the crabby old man and the overly cheerful little boy managed to find a connection with each other at the end.
I am pretty useless nowadays at watching films without falling asleep, but my inner child always keeps me awake during the animated ones!

I knew you would not disappoint me! Oh how much I love Up! Everything in it! The way they tell the love story of the two of them in, I believe, 90seconds, is amazing! Thanks for this!!!

I love “Lady and the tramp” I remember being a little girl and going to the movies to see it on the big screen, and that one song… ” We are Siamese, if you please!!” Started my life long obsession with Siamese cats!!

This was one of my FAVE films but the year it came out, we took 8 seven year olds to see it for a bday party and got calls later that night from five parents who said their child was sad and focused on death!

Miss Hap didn’t see it as sad when she saw it. It was just me and Mr Grump that blubbed!

That dog, oh boy, I love that dog — he cracks me up!
That’s a great film. Super duper!
I don’t like very many of the animated films. I get annoyed. I thought it was because I’ve been watching the animated crap for 15 years, over and over, each child had his favorites — but I’ve come to find some parents truly enjoy them, even parents with longer years of parenting and more kids. Just not my thing. So the ones I love, I really love. Nemo, Up, and Over the Hedge 🙂

Oh I love Nemo too. That Dorian that keeps forgetting everything! I have not seen Over The Hedge though. 🙂

I am with you on these types of movies…they’re great. Would highly suggest Wall-E if you’re into films with a message……I couldn’t believe this film when I saw it. I thought it was a film for children, but indeed I think it is much more directed at adults! Very powerful messages of where our human race already is and the future that might be…..

I have not actually seen Wall-E. Will have to look out for it..

I loved Up and I also cried quite a bit while watching it. Despite my age I still prefer animated movies above all else. I actually wish I could watch one tonight. Edwina, I just wanted to pop in and say goodbye to you in person. I will be gone for a very very long time, it seems. Just wanted to tell you I will miss your upbeat posts and your bubbly nature that has lifted me out of numerous less-than-chirpy moods. Keep it up, you are awesome! Best Wishes! D

‘squi-rrel’ is what we say whenever our dog points… even though there are no squirrels in Australia…
I remember being terrified in Snow White too…
Faves of mine are Toy Story, Wreck-it-Ralph, Wall-E and Mulan

I love animated films too; you’ve mentioned some of my favourites. With CGI there is so much more attention made to the colouring in and effects. The first 3D animation I saw was Bolt, and I sat with my jaw hanging open at the imagination and 3D effects – especially the slo-mo action scenes 😀 For good jokes Ice Age is brilliant, the third one being my favourite. Over the Hedge is another Sunday afternoon fave…. a hedge called Steve – briliant!

I love the Ice Age films as well actually. I really need to check out this Over The Hedge as you are the second person who has mentioned it as one of their favourites.
