Episode 350: 4 Seasons in 30 Mins! — May 29, 2015

Episode 350: 4 Seasons in 30 Mins!

I know us Brits are always talking (or should I say moaning) about the weather. If we get a really hot day then we complain that we are exhausted, and can’t sleep because of the heat. We don’t like the rain, loathe the snow (especially as the whole country comes to a standstill) detest the wind, and our favourite, whinge about the cold.

Well in the last half and hour, we have had something for everyone! It started off quite mild and pleasantly warm, then suddenly the sky went really dark and we had an unexpected hailstorm (you can see in the pic the hail that settled on the top of the ledge in the garden).

That lasted for about 5 minutes then I noticed there was a lovely rainbow as the sun was starting to come out. (You can just see it between the trees)

I turned to the left and there was a lovely blue sky and fluffy white clouds as you can see.

Now everybody should be happy, as we have had the lot all in one go!

Free-For-All Friday #12 —

Free-For-All Friday #12

Welcome to my Free-for-all Friday, where I get to share with you some of the wonderful posts that I have read this week. As you know I like all type of blogs, so there is a mix of all sorts to suit everyone. Please check out these blogs if you have not already done so, as they are all brilliant.

Creatopath Rachel has all sorts on her blog, from crafts to flash fiction. This post was a short story which I thought was very cleverly written.

Fourth Generation Farm Girl Tonya is amazing at writing acrostic poems. I admire her ability to make them look easy when I know they certainly are not.

Skipah’s Realm This post had me rocking with laughter. I know I have a bit of a sick sense of humour and it was not a funny thing to happen to someone, but the way he described it had me doubled over!

Hugh’s Views and News I love this blog as it is so varied; everything from flash fiction stories that really capture the imagination, to posts by Toby the dog (when he get Hugh out of the way). This post is one that makes me feel proud to be British.

My OBT I really enjoy Donna’s blog. She is a very cultured lady who has also a taste for the wacky and wonderful (definitely my kind of person). Check out this post to see what weirdness she has uncovered.

Daily Echo.Sue is a very talented author and poet, She is also a brilliant raconteur and this post had me in hysterics. I love a good laugh (especially at other people’s ineptitude, as I have so many of my own, that I can really empathise) and this did not disappoint.

So there you have this weeks selection which you are sure to enjoy.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Episode 349: More on Wacky Word Wednesday — May 28, 2015

Episode 349: More on Wacky Word Wednesday

I thought I would have a little fun tonight and record a little video of myself reading out the Wacky Word Wednesday post I did recently. Trista from All But The Kitchen Sink  thought it might be nice to hear it read aloud.

I have had a go at it as I always love to try something new. See what you think.

Episode 348: What a Clucking Fuss! — May 27, 2015

Episode 348: What a Clucking Fuss!

Here in England we have some really lovely old buildings, some of them like this old pub, go back to the 8th century, and they often have weird and wonderful names too, which tend to have a history behind them.

Ye Old Fighting Cocks in St Albans, Hertfordshire, is officially Britain’s oldest pub as verified by the Guinness Book of Records, but its name has ruffled a few feathers with animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

They suggest that the name should be changed from ‘Ye Old Fighting Cocks’ (its name since 1872) to ‘Ye Old Clever Cocks’ as chickens are sensitive and social animals and should be portrayed as such. After all, they argue, cock fighting was banned in the UK in the 1800s, and modern people are appalled by the thought of them fighting to the death.

The locals however, are outraged at the idea of changing their pub’s name, which they think is quite mad. No chickens were available for comment, as they were cooling their heels in the local Police Cells due to being kicked out of ‘Ye Old Fighting Cocks’ for drunk and disorderly behaviour!

I do love animals but honestly, this is taking things a little bit too far! I am sure the chickens couldn’t care less what the pub is called!

Episode 345: Wacky Word Wednesday #4

Oooh I do love Wednesday when I can play with a word that is weird, wonderful or just downright wacky! Now for some unknown reason, the type of words that appeal to me always seem to have some sort of sexual connotation to them (and even if they don’t I still manage to find one) and today’s word is no exception, so I give you…….

Concupiscent. This is a very lecherous and lustful word. A hot and horny, heavy breathing, panting, pouting  quivering mass of sexual energy, looking for an erotic encounter. It is the playful partner, tantalising and titillating, teasing the senses into a frenzy of fervid passion and libidinous longing.

It is no surprise to me whatsoever that this word is Latin in origin! They sure knew how to have fun.

Episode 346: #BeWoW – How I Keep Positive. — May 26, 2015

Episode 346: #BeWoW – How I Keep Positive.

This is  my BeWoW post  as inspired  by Ronovan

Keeping positive is something that I am constantly striving to achieve, seeing as I have always tended to look on the negative side of things!

I think as I have got older I have become much more determined, and actually that does help me to focus on the positive, or at least to have a little more self-belief. Workwise, I still have ambition, and want to try to move up another rung on the ladder, and being negative and doubting my ability will not help me get to where I want to be.

Suffering with depression as well, it can very often be difficult to keep positive, as I get times when I feel pretty useless, and rubbish at everything. This drags me down until I turn inwards, and just want to stay in and see nobody (except my husband and daughter). I realise that it is not healthy and am trying to combat this.

Enough of the doom and gloom now, and back to being positive. I think sometimes just reflecting on the things that I have in my life, that I am so thankful for helps too. For example, I have a beautiful daughter, wonderful husband and family as well as a job that I enjoy.

The warmer weather always improves my mood as well. Seeing the sunshine seems to lift my spirits and I realise that there is lots to look forward to; family BBQs, days at the beach, swimming in the sea. all the little pleasures that make life so enjoyable. These are all positive events.

I am also blessed that I have wonderful friends, work colleagues and of course, the blogging community. Interaction with other people for me is very important. Despite my being reclusive at times, I still like to interact with others, and being able to do so online is great for me when I am in hermit mode!

So staying positive is, for me, all about being grateful for what I have, having goals and achieving them, and being surrounded by wonderful and supportive family and friends.

Episode 344: Here Comes Summer! —

Episode 344: Here Comes Summer!

What a pleasant day it turned out to be today. As we have just had a Bank Holiday, and the kids are off on half-term, the weather forecast had been rather gloomy for this week (typical), so to see the sun shining this morning was a bonus.

Yesterday my younger sister had given me some cucumber and tomato seedlings, 2 sunflower seedlings and some sweet peas to put in my garden as Mr Grump has not planted anything this year. Luckily, the rosemary, chives and rhubarb we had previously as well as my roses, are doing pretty well, so our garden will not be too sparse this year after all!

Anyway, Miss Hap was out with her friend for the day so I got on with a bit of housework, but had a nice unexpected visit from my sister-in-law. We then went off to pick up my little sister from work and went back to her house to sit out in the garden for while.

My sister (Masterchef) likes to makes an occasion our of everything, we sat outside drinking Earl Grey tea from pretty china cups (she kept glancing over at me as I am usually not to be trusted with anything delicate due to my clumsiness) and tucking into a huge platter of cheese, gammon, feta cheese and biscuits.

It was so lovely sitting there chatting, as we rarely get to spend time with each other. The garden looked beautiful with the flowers and plants just coming to life, the sun was shining, and we all were laughing. It was such a simple pleasure, but gave me a much-needed boost to my mood!

Oh and when I got home I got sunburnt – but of course being me, it is only on the one arm! Classy! 🙂

Episode 343: Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt #46. Think and Fresh

Today we have the words ‘think’ and fresh’ to use in our Haiku set by Ronovan for his weekly challenge.

Seeing as I am always thinking about food, here is my attempt for this week:

For my Sunday roast

I think tender leg of lamb

with fresh rosemary.

Episode 342: WordPress Weirdness! — May 24, 2015

Episode 342: WordPress Weirdness!

I know some people have mentioned about missing comments, and other weird happenings on WordPress lately and I have noticed a few odd things myself.

Just now I had 49 comments in my spam folder which is utterly unheard of for me, as usually I just get 4 or 5 at most. Some of these however, were from people whose blogs I follow and are regular commenters!

Luckily I checked through them and restored them, but it is very annoying, I am always extremely happy when people take the time to comment and I reply back as soon as I can to EVERY comment.

I just want to say that if I do not reply within 24 hours to your comment then it is because I haven’t seen it. I really so not want anyone to think that I am being rude as I appreciate hearing from people.

I hope WordPress sort themselves out!
