Episode 311: Standoffs and Scuffles As Election Fever Heats Up! — May 2, 2015

Episode 311: Standoffs and Scuffles As Election Fever Heats Up!

Miss Hap wanted to go into town today as she was pretty fortunate in getting some money for her birthday. We still had one of her friends with us from last night’ s sleepover, and off we all headed off.

As is the norm, we headed straight for Starbucks when we got there, which was packed, as it was mid-morning. The girls went in to get the drinks whilst myself and Mr Grump tried to find a table outside. We ended up sharing a table with a young woman as it was so busy. The girls of course, did not want to be seen with us so they sat inside.

Directly opposite us, a few feet away, UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party) had set up a small stall. As we are voting in the General Election in less than a week. some of the candidates are still trying to persuade as many people as they can to vote for them.

They had a load of balloons tied to their stall, leaflets to give to the public, and cardboard placards with information on for those that were interested. Their actual candidate wore a rumpled  cream suit, and there were a couple of older women there giving out leaflets to passers-by. An old man hunched over, and a rather heavy-set middle-aged man were also milling about.

I didn’t really pay that much attention to them as I talked to Mr Grump, but a couple of ‘bangs’ had me looking over in that direction. Some gangly young man decided that he would enjoy himself by popping the balloons and knocking down the placards. Crumpled suit was nowhere in sight, but the old guy was straight in there pushing and shoving the young one around and getting irate. It looked as though he was going to swing for him and do himself an injury, as he was pretty unsteady on his feet.

Sensing a bit of action might take place, the heavy-set man waddled over and started wading in. From out of nowhere another youngish man joined them who was wearing a natty suit and tie. He too was trying to talk the youth out of destroying the stall, as it appeared that the young man objected to UKIP’s policies and he decided that it would be a good idea to show his displeasure by trashing the stall!

What made me laugh though, was it turned out that the man in the suit that had come over, was actually one of the ‘Green Party’ who had set their stall up a few feet further down the road. He had seen the disturbance, and thought that it would be a great opportunity for him to go over and persuade the balloon popper to vote for his party instead!

Talk about making the most of an opportunity!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘Z’ — April 30, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘Z’

So here we are, sadly at the end of this amazing Blogging From A-Z Challenge. I have really enjoyed it, made some new blogging friends and played with some fantastic words! To our final letter then which is the lovely zig-zaggy litter ‘Z’. Now I was gong to have a little cheat here and use ‘zaftig’ kindly donated to me by the lovely Wendy. However, it was not a word I was familiar with although it perfectly describes me (woman with a rounded figure) I might do something on it at a later date. So the word I did choose is another one that I love the sound of…………

Zingy. This is a great sounding word, it is vital and vivacious, alert and ready to take on the day ahead. It is enthusiastic, and energetic, zealous and zesty. This is the feeling you have after a great night’s sleep followed by a refreshing shower; it is bouncy and buoyant, animated and activated. Feeling on top form, dynamic and ebullient, nothing can get you down.

I wanted to end on a high note so have pulled out all the stops to make this word sound as happy and bright as it should be. I am exhausted now!

Episode 309: What Family Is To Me — April 29, 2015

Episode 309: What Family Is To Me

This post is inspired by Ronovanswrtites  BeWoW.

I come from quite a large family, having three older brothers and two sisters, one older and one younger; that makes me number five of six children, It’s quite funny how things worked out as my eldest brother and sister were born on the same day exactly a year apart, and myself and my younger sister were also born on the same day as each other but I am two years older.

Growing up, there was always someone around so there was not a lot of peace and quiet, nor was there any chance of being lonely. Of course sharing a birthday with my sister was quite nice as well. When we were younger we always got dressed the same and I think were treated as almost one entity of ‘the two girls.’ Mind you, for ages we fought like hell, pinching and scratching as well as pulling each other’s hair!

Now we all have children of our own, I remember how proud I was when I first became an aunty at 15. I now have a total of 10 nephews and nieces, two of those are also married. I also have my own daughter and was the last one out of the six to have children. Luckily I got in a fair bit of practice having all those nephews and nieces!

I think for me family is definitely about learning to share, but also keeping your wits about you. In our house if you weren’t looking, someone would nick a roast potato off your plate! However, there was always at least one person to play Monopoly or Mousetrap with (even if a fight did normally ensue)!

Family teaches you about relationships as well which applies to all sorts of other situations. You get to know your place in the hierarchy, which being fifth and extremely shy was pretty low down to start with! Respect is a large part of family life; I certainly had to respect my elders and of course my parents. When there are so many of you who have different personalities, you have to learn to try to respect each other’s differences.

Most importantly, family is love. Yes, we all have our fallings out, sometimes quite serious ones, but know that we will still be there for each other should anything happen, Forgiveness is also part of being a family. I know sometimes we all might have acted out of turn, but are usually forgiven!

Family is also about laughter. Sharing those hilarious moments with each other; reminiscing about the good times, or the bad; accepting each other, having someone to confide in; it is extremely important to me.

Family is being loved for yourself, and loving others for who they are, despite them driving us bloody crazy at times!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘Y’ —

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘Y’

Yay! Down to the very last two now in the Blogging From A-Z Challenge and this means that it is the letter ‘Y’s turn! This letter stands tall and proud but is open and yielding. It is not a popular letter for starting words. but I have found one that makes me laugh at the way it sounds, although it is not a very pleasant word. I give you…..

Yob. Yep, short but not sweet. It is a thuggish kind of a word, The group of teenage lads hanging around swigging beer and smashing stuff up for the sheer hell of it. The loutish behaviour at a football match, with groups of rival fans seeing how many people they can beat up.

It is the unruly mob kicking off in town on a Saturday night after a few pints, looking for trouble. It’s the little sod that has keyed your car in the car park. The lowlife that mugs old ladies, or the delinquent who steals anything that isn’t bolted down!

Yobbo can also be used to mean exactly the same, if you prefer the sound of that!

Episode 307: Uplifting Movies! — April 28, 2015

Episode 307: Uplifting Movies!

This post is inspired by A Momma’s View and But I Smile Anyway.

Both of these lovely ladies have been awarded the ‘Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award’ which is very well deserved, They both have fantastic blogs, which, if you have not checked out yet, please do as you are missing out! Anyway, one of the questions asked was ‘what is your favourite animated film?’ and I decided to write a post about this as suggested by Momma.

Animated films, especially Disney ones, have always been a part of my life. i remember as a child always being taken to see the latest release. I cried in ‘Pinocchio’ when he got swallowed by the whale apparently. I loved ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Snow White’ although I was a bit scared of the evil step-mother (I was a sensitive child)!

Films like ‘The Lady and The Tramp’ and ‘The Aristocats’ were great as well, as was ‘101 Dalmatians.’ There always seemed to be some kind of moral in these films, and of course, they always had a happy ending, which made me feel better.

More recently we have the CGI films as well such as ‘Tangled’,’Despicable Me’ and the ‘Shrek’ films.I loved all of those. These films seem to consider the adults that are watching them as well, and there is normally a lot of humour in them that goes straight over a child’s head, but give the parents a good laugh. Donkey in ‘Shrek’ just makes me laugh every time he says anything!

I love the cleverness of ‘Shrek’ as well. Mike Myers is a genius in my opinion! The way he depicts the fairy tale characters is so funny. Look at how he made Prince Charming such a mummy’s boy, and a baddie as well; and what about mad Merlin in his little dress?! I could go on, but actually, I haven’t even got to my favourite film yet!

This brings me to ‘Up’, the story about an old man, a boy and a house. It had so many messages in this film; friendship, love, determination, dreams, sorrow, and finally acceptance. I have to say that both me and Mr Grump cried in this film (he is a big softy under all that grouchiness)!

It was the fact that the old man was so sad to lose his wife. They had built a dream together and he was going to see it through right to the end, despite the many obstacles that were put in his way. However, it transpired after looking through his wife’s scrap-book that he had already fulfilled her dream before she died. I also thought it was so touching how the crabby old man and the overly cheerful little boy managed to find a connection with each other at the end.

I am pretty useless nowadays at watching films without falling asleep, but my inner child always keeps me awake during the animated ones!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘X’ —

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘X’

With three days left to go on the Blogging From A-Z Challenge  we are getting to the really tricky letters of the alphabet, and my poor brain is having to work extra hard.Today we have the letter ‘X’. Now this letter looks a little uncompromising, a bit grumpy and cross with its arms folded over its chest! I am not surprised seeing as it rarely gets a turn in the starring role at the beginning of a word, However today I am giving it top billing and would like to present to you…….

X-Rated! Yes of course, this had to be the obvious choice for me, It can be immoral and indecent, obscene and offensive. This word is the sexy and steamy DVD that comes out on ‘special occasions’ when the kids aren’t about! This is the gory and gruesome horror movie that gives you nightmares for weeks!

This is the seedy cinema, with the hardcore porno films; the pervy punter looking for some ‘adult entertainment;’ the young couple having a bit of rumpy-pumpy in the park!

X-Rated to me, is the kind of thing you do not want to associate with if the kids (or the parents) are around!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘W’ — April 27, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘W’

We are in the last week now of the wonderful Blogging From A-Z Challenge which brings us to the letter ‘W.’ This is a bit of a misnomer really as it resembles two ‘v’s rather than two ‘u’s! It is quite a broad and welcoming letter. The wise elder statesman of letters. However, the word I have chosen is perhaps more in the wacky and wild category……. I give you

Whirligig! I love even the sound of this word. It is whizzing around wildly, washing twirling and whirling around in the breeze. Frenzied spinning  around and around spiralling out of control almost.

It pirouettes, daintily, then gathering speed until it is gyrating like a whirling dervish, with robes forming huge circles as they gather pace!

I feel giddy just thinking about this word!

Episode 304: Blogging From A-Z Challenge:’V’ Part 2! — April 26, 2015

Episode 304: Blogging From A-Z Challenge:’V’ Part 2!

I have already done one post for ‘V’ for the Blogging From A-Z challenge which can be read here.

However, in that post I mentioned that I considered using the word vajazzle but wasn’t sure if I could make enough out of it. I didn’t realise that some of you are not familiar with the word, so I will attempt to enlighten you as to its (very limited) use!

Now us ladies are quite known for our fondness for a bit of sparkle. Some glitz and glitter can add a certain razamatazz to an outfit, and we all love to look our best. Good grooming is an essential part of the modern woman’s routine, from head to toe and everything in between!

Some ladies like to have a little bit of bling as an added extra, that, although may not be on public view (unless they are either very brave or very tacky), is still expertly applied, usually in a salon. This brings me to the …

Vajazzle. It is a form of decoration, specifically for the pubic mound area on women (it helps if this is completely bald)! An assortment of little crystal gems are painstakingly applied in a design of your choice to the area, and kind of stuck on to keep them in place. It is supposed to, ahem, enhance the appearance!

I would imagine that in order to go to all that trouble to impress, there must be some chance of a bit of action at the end of the evening! I cannot imagine this would be the most comfy of accessories to wear though; being rather scratchy to say the least. Not to mention how it must chafe whatever it comes into close contact with!

I’m surprised it caught on!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘V’ — April 25, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘V’

We are romping onwards with the Blogging From A-Z Challenge  and have now found ourselves at the letter ‘V.’ This letter is very open, arms or even legs akimbo, either way, very friendly! It can also be very virtuous or perhaps even vile, or violent. There are several choices I could have gone with here, vajazzle being one of them, but i could not make enough of it, so perhaps another time, So instead I am going to for the rufty-tufty and oh so manly…………………

Virile. Now this is definitely my kind of word, as you might have guessed! It is red-blooded and randy, hot and horny, strong and sexy. Oh yes, this word is very masculine and macho, a kind of ‘sling you over the shoulder and carry you off for a bit of rumpy-pumpy’ kind of thing. It is fertile and flirty, ready for some love at any given moment, It energetic and exhausting.

Phew! I have got myself all of a tizzy now!
