Episode 297: Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge #41

Well this week Ronovan is really making the Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt tricky by giving us ‘want’ and ‘tatters’ to use!

This is my go at it!

The sea is angry

The ship wrecked, and in tatters

For want of some peace

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘Q’ —

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘Q’

On the Blogging From A-Z Challenge today, we have a letter that has got a bit of everything. It is nicely rounded but has a little bit of a spike to it as well. Yes, we have the quirky letter ‘Q.’  It is quaint, yet queenly, fun and funky. It is nearly always followed around but its partner in crime as well, the letter ‘u.’ They  make a wonderful team and are virtually inseparable. Today, I have chosen a word that I encounter a lot…although to experience it is pretty unpleasant, the sound of the words itself makes me smile.

Queasy. Now this word is for those who are a bit ‘green around the gills.’ It is the stomach churning feeling you might have whilst being flung about all over the place on a roller coaster, that turns you upside down for good measure too.

It is the bilious and bloated result of overindulgence on rich foods, or the burning back of the throat , that preludes a vicious, vomiting attack. The tipsy, dizzy feeling of a few too many ‘sherbets!’

As a final treat, it is the stench of festering, flesh, putrid and pus filled, that sickens you to the pit of your stomach!

Enjoy your lunch! 🙂

Episode 296: Blog Feed! — April 19, 2015

Episode 296: Blog Feed!

Well today is the last day of the Easter holidays and it’s back to work tomorrow after two weeks off. It has been so nice to have this time off, especially as the weather has been pretty kind as well, on the whole.

The one thing I will miss though is being able to spend more time on my blogging. I have been able to feed my blogging addiction quite a lot over the last two weeks, and instead of my hunger being sated, I find that my appetite has grown!

I am actually going to have to use the ‘schedule’ button a bit more than I normally do as I like to write ‘off the cuff’ about whatever takes my fancy. It is odd to  think though that before September last year when I started this blog, I had never done any sort of writing as such.

I have always loved poems, and little ditties which I still like to do now, along with a newfound extra; I have discovered the Haiku (thanks to dear Hugh and Ronovan). They are also pretty fun to do, although as there are rules with them, they require a bit more thought (stretching my poor brain to the limit)!

Given my love of words, and being such a prolific reader as well, it is odd that I never really considered writing before. Mind you, it probably has a lot to do with confidence really, as my idea of people who wrote, were either of scholarly types, locked away in the attic for hours scribbling frantically, or of the bright and funny young women bashing away at a temperamental typewriter knocking out their latest ‘bonkbuster!’

Obviously, I fit into neither of those categories, nor do I have anything specific that I like to write about, apart from the fact that I do prefer to have some sort of humour running through it. Perhaps that is why I have become addicted to blogging. It seems to fit with me perfectly, because not only can I write to my heart’s content, I also get to interact with other bloggers too. That for me is the main course and the dessert!

Episode 295: What’s In a Name? — April 18, 2015

Episode 295: What’s In a Name?

As many of you know, my name is not actually Edwina, it is Judy. I used Edwina due to wanting to remain anonymous when I first started out in blogging (all of 7 months ago). At the beginning of this year I decided  I was brave enough to use my own name.but I have kept the blog name the same as I like it, and some people still address me as Edwina anyway which is fine by me.

I am pretty partial to giving little pet names to some of my family members anyway – even my mum! I call her ‘Peg’ and have done for many years as I thought her teeth looked like pegs! Not very nice I know, but she doesn’t mind, even when ex-boyfriends have mistakenly called her it, thinking it was her name!

Miss Hap I call ‘Beauty’ or ‘Cinderella!’ She hates it when I dare to do it in front of her friends, but she is my little princess and that is that! The poor dog gets called ‘Roxy Roo’ or ‘Poxy’ by my elder sister! Mind you I call her ‘Willow’ after ‘Willow The Wisp!’ My daughter calls her ‘Gingerella’ or ‘Aunty Ginger’ for obvious reasons!

Mr Grump I normally call ‘hub’ or ‘Victor’ when he is crabby (after Victor Meldrew), along with ‘Mr Selfishness’  when he dares to buy himself anything (especially if he hasn’t got me anything)!

Yes I love nicknames. My nieces both over 25 years old, still get called ‘Buffle’ and ‘Boof’! Silly little made-up names that I thought suited them when they were little! One of my nephews I named ‘plumptious’ (he is 23)!

Do you like your name or do you use a nick name?

Episode 294: How To Make An Arse Of Yourself! —

Episode 294: How To Make An Arse Of Yourself!

Silly old Michael Buble has landed himself in trouble over an Instagram pic that his wife took.  Whilst holidaying in Miami, he and his family went to get some food, and his wife decided to take a picture of him. In the background there is a young woman with rather a skimpy pair of shorts on, which the wife thought to include in the picture.

When Buble saw the pic of the young lady he thought it would be a great snap to post, and thereby share with all of his followers. Just in case they didn’t appreciate the young lady’s assets, he included hashtags such a ‘beautiful bum’ and ‘hungry shorts’ amongst others to draw attention to the ‘humps’ in question!

He thought no more about it until he started getting irate messages by people incensed that he ‘body-shamed’ this poor woman. He was accused of being a misogynist, who was disrespecting women. Others also asked him whether or not he had obtained permission from the woman to even take her photo.

Others were concerned that the young woman might have only been a minor. Michael Buble thought that the pic was a bit of ‘light-hearted’ fun and that is was complementary to the young lady concerned to post her backside all over Instagram!

Do you think Buble has made an ‘arse’ of himself, or is he just having a bit of harmless ‘cheeky’ fun!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘P’ —

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘P’

I have really got into the Blogging from A-Z Challenge now and am enjoying it immensely. Today we will be looking at the prim and proper letter ‘P.’ It can be a bit prissy and pious but has just enough curve in it to make it playful as well. Today’s word is a real oldie. but not goodie. It is rather sinister actually…so  let me acquaint you with…..

Pernicious.  Yes this word sounds pretty nasty which it is…. an unhealthy pallor of a word; its malevolent intentions to injure and destroy with malignant intention, as it wreaks havoc wherever it goes.

It is a noxious and evil influence. a fatal flaw in an already diseased mind, corrupting and harmful, all-encompassing and pervading.

Not something you want to encounter very often!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘O’ — April 17, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘O’

Today on the Blogging From A-Z Challenge we are looking at the beautifully formed, and wonderfully rounded letter ‘O,’ This is such an open, outgoing letter. that it was difficult to choose a word that does it justice.  I toyed with ‘onomatopoeia’ as I like the sound of it!  However, I have decided upon another ‘blast from the past’ word, that i also like the sound of….. so, without further ado, may I present…..

Oaf. Yep, it is short and not so sweet. It is the klutz that bangs into everything; the village idiot of words that everyone humours.  When an oaf is around, you don’t want to be offering them tea from your best china, unless you are prepared for it to be knocked all over your cream coloured carpet, and smashed to smithereens in the process.

This word conjures up in my mind, a lumbering, great man with hobnail boots, clomping about, treading all over your lawn and squashing your flowers! He had hands like shovels that he has no control over, so he often flails about, gesticulating wildly. God help you if you get in his way, as you are likely to get a whack on the head from his uncoordinated movements. He is well-meaning, but a liability to have around. A calamity waiting to happen; a  clumsy clot of the highest order!

Poor sod, I know how he feels!

Episode 291: Lost For Words — April 16, 2015

Episode 291: Lost For Words

As many of you know, I really love words and the fun that can be had with them. However, as you get older (so I’m told), you might have a bit of job trying to remember a particular word that you were searching for.

How many of us have said,

“Can you pass me that…….thingummyjig’ or  perhaps  ” where is the …….oojamaflip?” Where on earth do these silly words come from? I know I often resort to ‘do-dah’ when I can’t find the word I need.

My step-father had a broad West Country accent and he would often say something like,

“Go and get the wha’s call it for I, only it sounded more like wascot! He also had a lovely way of getting words mixed up as in ‘every Dick, Tom and Harry’  or better still, “pass I thick Amber Solamber, will thee?” Now of course he meant the Ambre Solaire suntan lotion. Bless him, he always took it in good part when we laughed!

Mr Grump is another one who can’t recall what he wants to say (well he is even older than I am), and will refer to things as a ‘gizmo’ or ‘dooberry firkin.’

It’s funny though as most of these words we resort to when we can’t think of the right one, are probably about three times as long!

Episode 290: Ode To Blogging From A-Zed —

Episode 290: Ode To Blogging From A-Zed

I always love a challenge

A chance to use my head

I joined two friends and signed up

For the Blogging from A to Zed!

Now it seems to make things harder

You ought to have a theme

So as, I love words so much

I thought that could be my scheme!

I’m more than halfway through now

And it’s really been a blast

I’ve dug around and found some words

That I’ve rescued from the past.

So although I might be ‘flummoxed’

About the right one to choose

I have got ‘ample ‘amounts of ‘corny’ words

Even ‘nincompoops’ can use!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘N’ —

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘N’

I am over the hump and on the downward stretch of the Blogging From A-Z Challenge and find myself at the naughty but nice letter ‘N.’ The fact that it is so similar in looks to the letter ‘M’ might make it seem pretty nondescript, but I have found a very special and fun word to play with……stand by for……

Nincompoop. This word really is onomatopoeic. It is silly in its buffoonery, daft as a door brush, and a bit of a dunce! It blunders and barges, totters and trips about, making a fool of itself wherever it goes.

Fools and f**kwits, prats and pillocks, as well as dolts and dickheads are what this word is all about! It is having no common sense (or any sense at all really), being oblivious to the bloody obvious, and ignoring what is right in front of you kind of word.

Again, I find as I am writing this, some of it applies to me!
