Wacky Word Wednesday

Welcome to my Wacky word Wednesday! I do love digging up weird, wonderful or wacky words to share, that quite frankly, are not getting the usage they deserve! Today I have found one that is still around, but not as popular as it used to be (probably because to be called it is not exactly complimentary. I love the sound of this word as it is, but that can be improved even more if you inject a bit of venom into it!

Gormless.  This is a ‘lights on but nobody home’ kind of a word. Vacant and vacuous. dopey and dim-witted, the kind of puzzled and perplexed look that shows a total lack of comprehension. It is the airhead, who can’t concentrate, the numskull that doesn’t get it no matter how many times it is repeated!

It is the dunderhead fooling around and messing everything up; the silly idiot playing pitiful pranks. All-in-all, a pretty apt word to describe how I am feeling at the moment trying to learn things for my new job!

Episode 419: Photo Fail! — July 18, 2015

Episode 419: Photo Fail!

As some of you may know, I am not exactly the most proficient person when it comes to technology. I tend to get by just sticking to the basics,or perhaps asking for a little help when there is something I really need to do understand how to do.

Anyway, myself and Mr Grump were due an upgrade and after a lot of thought (which one comes in the prettiest colours, and has a good camera, as I want to try to learn to take a decent photo as I am rubbish at that as well) I ended up with a really lovely gold coloured phone that can do quite a lot of stuff.

I decided that I would try to use some of these wonderful features as they will go to waste. Well, I was pleased to see I have a pedometer on this health app, so I gave that a go and was delighted that on days that I work. I of course do more than he recommended 6000 steps by double and I surpass my daily activity minutes as well.

So far, so big-headed! (I would be a lot more pleased though if the bloody weight would come off with all this ‘exercise’. Next up I wanted to play with the command thing, where you ask it to do something and it does. Ooooh this is fun, I asked it to text Mr Grump it did! He laughed his head off when I politely asked it to set my work alarm for 5:15am please! Well, most of you will know my take on having good manners!

Having said that I wanted to wring its bloody neck this morning, on my day off, the stupid alarm went off singing away at 5:15. So here I am at 7am on this beautiful Saturday morning, having already been up for a couple of hours (once I am awake that is it, I have to get up).

I didn’t have a lot of success with the camera either. I mentioned that I went to the awards ceremony at Miss Hap’s School on Monday. Well me being me, as I went on my own, I got there too early as I stressed myself about parking. The advantage though was that I got to sit in the 3rd row from the from just behind the teachers. Miss Hap was the very first child up to get her award, and I was there, camera poised.

As her name was called she walked on stage and stood there for a bit, once the subjects that she had got the award in were read out she walked across the stage, shook hands with the chap who was there from the charity the school was supporting this year, and then walked off again. I spent so long trying to zoom in and focus I missed the bloody handshake moment but did at least manage to get a photo of her! Yes, I only managed to get 2 in total due to my faffing about!

There needs to be some sort of course set up for the technodunce!

Episode 54: Nobody Likes A Smart Arse! — November 23, 2014

Episode 54: Nobody Likes A Smart Arse!

Oh how I wish I wasn’t such a dunce with technology. Don’t get me wrong, I know my way around a computer (at least enough to be able to use the basics for home and work), and I can manage to call and text from my mobile phone (aren’t I clever)?! but that is just about all I can do, and I feel like I am not only missing out, but lagging behind!

I’m sick of everything being ‘smart’! Phones, TVs, you name it, ‘smart’ is the thing to be. Well that’s all well and good, but when you have a bloody idiot like me trying to use these things, I am well and truly outwitted, and have to rely on others (Mr Grump and Miss Hap are both very tech savvy) to help me work things out, as I am  certainly not smart enough!

Take my mobile for example; I remember trying to video Miss Hap’s Sports Day on it.  When she won the skipping race (I was so thrilled, especially as she managed not to trip over the rope like I would have done) and I thought I had captured her triumph on  my phone. Looking at the footage, it was shaky, several people’s heads are in the way at times, and it seemed like I was about a mile away from the action. I don’t like to mess about with any settings, but apparently I could have zoomed in a bit more to actually SEE my daughter’s features!

Our super-duper 3D TV with its superior intelligence, also mocks my ham-fisted attempts to utilise it properly. I know it has the internet, and I can synch it up with my laptop, should I wish to. I did wish to actually, I had just got the Sims 4 (I know it’s a dreadful addiction, but I’ve given up the fags and sweet food, so am allowed one vice) and I was told that I could play my game on the laptop, but somehow project it onto the TV screen which I thought would be great.I will never know though because I can’t bloody do it and neither can the other two!

That brings me to the laptop, or more generally the Internet. Oh the wonders of the web; the things you can do; the fun you can have. Well I want to have a bit of a rant actually because I can’t do things; it’s not for want of trying though. I try to teach myself, I get tutorials, I look at help pages, I ask others, but no, I am still a disaster.

Now that I have really got into blogging, I have been trying to tweak my website a bit to make it look a little more polished, I have seen some wonderful blogs which are so professional  looking, with links here and separate pages there! Oh how I envy them, I tried creating a  new Facebook profile just for my blog, but realised it’s not really going to work unless I use my actual name as I won’t be able to add my friends! After all, I have now actually put a pic up (brace yourselves)!

I think I’m going to have to bite the bullet, and get my daughter to sit with me to help my poor brain  understand the fundamentals of being ‘smart’. I don’t want my stupidity being taken advantage of by all this clever technology!
