Photography 101:Scale & Observation

Frosty leaf

Today is all about scale and observation for Photography 101.

Now at the moment, I am still using my phone as my camera, but Mr Grump bought me a couple of little lenses that clip on to the phone over the camera to create different effects.

The one I used here is the micro lens and it is a photo of a frosty leaf taken early one morning.

In close up, it is interesting to see the little ice crystals scattered around the leaf, not all in one lump as it appears in normal vision. I love the indentations and lines on the leaf as well.

It is difficult for me to keep a steady hand at the best of times, but with the phone (especially with a phone case), it is tricky, hence the blurry bits around the outside of the pic!

Just Jot It January 3rd – Frozen

The following post is in response to Linda’s Just Jot It January. If you haven’t  already checked it out, please do so. It is a great way to get the blogging juices flowing!

One of the joys of a British winter is often waking up in the morning to a thick coating of frost everywhere. For many of us, this means  standing outside in the freezing cold with a scraper, scratching away with numb fingers. Poor Mr Grump, he did use to suffer out there  whilst I drank my tea, impatiently waiting for my car to be ready! Luckily this year has been much milder and we have only had the odd icy morning.

We took the decorations down on New Year’s Day, and Mr Grump was climbing up on furniture unpinning all the lights that were around the room. I meanwhile was undressing the poor old Christmas tree. I heard a loud ‘thud’ and a bit of swearing, and spun round wondering what had happened. Mr Grump was squatting on the chair clutching his head, frozen in pain. I however, was stuggling to control my lips from twitiching.

He is a bit of a drama  queen when he hurts himself, and was talking through clenched teeth, telling me he hit his head on the celing. I had already gathered this, but him crouching there statue-like, hands over his head was playing havoc with me trying to keep up a sympathetic wife face. I finally managed to prise his hands off his bald pate to see a pinhead sized piece of skin had been scraped off. How disappointing, I thought there might have at least been an egg sized lump after the fuss he made!

Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge # 65 ‘Harp’ & ‘Clear.’ — October 5, 2015

Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge # 65 ‘Harp’ & ‘Clear.’

Oooh these challenges are getting more and more difficult as Ron gets meaner with the prompt words for his weekly Haiku Challenge. We have got ‘harp’ and ‘clear’ to contend with this week.

Here is my attempt:

Oh, stop harping on!

It’s your turn so get out there

and clear the windscreen!

Episode 220: You Know Spring Is Sprung (In the UK) When….. — March 14, 2015

Episode 220: You Know Spring Is Sprung (In the UK) When…..

Spring is definitely on the way here in the UK at the moment, We have even had a couple of consecutive pleasant days which is a sure sign that some of the following are going to happen…..

  • The good old barbecue will be dusted off and dragged into service due to the face that the sun shone for over an hour. (Yes, guess what we are having for dinner tonight?) It was lovely whilst I was at work, but of course now the sun has gone in and it has clouded over. By the time we get to cook all the goodies Mr Grump has bought the rain will probably be bucketing down! No matter.
  • The more macho of the men would have also dug their shorts out for the occasion too.Forget the fact that the temperatures are still pretty chilly, and we have had a bit of frost. That won’t bother them. They are determined to expose their pasty legs for all to admire (usually with a great big pair of boots on their feet, it’s not summer yet you know)!
  • Everywhere you look there are adverts for some miracle diet or another that will have you ‘bikini ready’ by the summer if you start now! That’s all well and good, and I have already started my diet, but that is one hell of a tall order! Mind you I might be baggy t-shirt and long shorts ready by the summer if I work really hard at it!
  • People have started to hang their washing on the line, so that it has that lovely ‘outdoor freshness’ appeal. Mine doesn’t. My garden gets the shade most of the day, and if I were to hang my washing out now it would be just as limp and damp when I brought it in as it was when I hung it out 8 hours earlier!
  • The local garden centres are starting to get busy now, People have decided that it is time to start planting things or doing a spot of DIY, This means that the frost will kill off many of the seedlings that have sprouted when that kicks in; also the A&E departments in the hospitals will be extra busy with the results of the DIY disasters!

Ahh yes, spring is such a wonderful time of year!
