#SoCS Picture

This week Linda has given us, picture for our Stream of Consciousness posts, which can be used as follows: Write about, or theme your post on the first picture you see when you sit down to start writing. You don’t need to describe the picture necessarily–you can even put yourself in it if you’re not already there. Enjoy!

Well, the first picture or rather pictures that I saw when I sat down to write were the ones that are in my images folder that I use for my blog. A couple of weeks ago my blog was reset to an earlier date due to some running problems. After spending nearly two full days in contact with technical support to get the blog to this point, I was so happy to see that it returned, that I didn’t realise there was a fatal flaw – no images were showing up on the posts or in my media!

The very first ones on my blog and also the homepage images were there so that is why I didn’t realise there was anything amiss. Last night though, the penny dropped! Where were all the images hiding? The only ones in my media were those that I had recently uploaded. I did a bit of poking around, to see if I could figure out where they had gone, then eventually turned to my ever faithful friend Mr Google, for some answers.

I was not impressed with the complicated procedures regarding file permissions and other stuff that I didn’t understand, but despite, messing up my blog before by tinkering with stuff I have no clue about, I managed to change them but still no difference. Another suggestion by my helpful friend was to re-upload the entire lot as they could have got ‘lost’ during the reset. Bugger, that is going to take time. Luckily this blog is not that old, but I still have loads of posts to sort out.

Not only do I have to re-upload them but of course, I need to re-assign them to the particular post they were meant for! I have started on this mammoth task, but it is going to take ages. Please bear with my rather naked blog if you find it imageless, I am working on it!

I just wanted to put you in the picture!

Self(ie) Confidence — November 6, 2017

Self(ie) Confidence

Selfies seem to be so popular at the moment, especially with the young. Now I am not very photogenic and am not that keen on having my picture taken at the best of times. My daughter, however, is just the opposite!

She loves to take selfies whenever we go anywhere and very often tries to get me in on it as well. When one of my best friends got married last year Miss Hap took a load of selfies at our table.  I ended up being in several of the shots, either stuffing myself with food and looking like Bessie Bunter, or having some sort of gormless expression on my face. (I know that might be normal for me but I don’t want her bandying the photos around her friends for their mocking pleasure)!

Now I don’t mind it when she uses one of the funny apps on the phone to scrunch up the face and twist it around a bit so that you end up resembling some evil pixie type of creature as that is really quite amusing. What I do hate though is the ‘Fatify’ app or whatever it is called!

You might have noticed that I am not the slimmest of people, but by the time this app has finished with me, I have gained yet another three chins! Likewise the ‘Oldify’ app, that is hideous as well. Having said that they are all in good fun and thank goodness she sees them as that way too.

In my day, ‘the camera never lied’ but of course now that is far from the truth. We have all heard of these ‘celebrities’ that have photoshopped their already slender bodies in order to shave off a few inches here and there, plus erase some ‘unsightly’ wrinkle, or mark. The end result is a far from realistic image of a supposedly ‘perfect’ person.

Luckily for me, Mr Grump likes a woman with ‘a bit of meat on her bones.’ I am aware that I may have a little too much to be healthy and for that reason need to lose some weight. I do not make a big thing out of it though as I don’t want to make weight an issue which might start influencing my daughter.

My daughter is extremely active and spends loads of time running around, The fact that she is only 14 years old as well, I do not think she should be overly worried at this point about her weight, and thank goodness she doesn’t seem to be. I do try to encourage her to be a little healthier though.

I love this ‘selfie’ of myself and my daughter, it is my favourite picture, despite being a couple of years old now. She has done something to it with an app, but it only alters the colour, it doesn’t add or take anything away. I hope she continues to be body confident, enjoys her youth and natural beauty.

Design Fails! — October 29, 2015

Design Fails!

Now I like to think that I am a woman of the times! (Ahem, except perhaps when it comes to music, as I am still in my little 80’s bubble)! I know that Social Media is the way forward and I am pretty good on Facebook. Ok, I don’t post that often apart from my blog, but I do when I have got something to say that might be slightly interesting.

Anyway, I have to face facts, I am a bloody dunce when it comes to the rest of them, despite my efforts! I saw loads of posts about how wonderful Pinterest is, and I duly went over there and set up a few boards. It is ok but I still have quite a lot to learn. Whilst looking at Suzie’s blog this week with her lovely coordinated colours and sleek-looking blog, it made me think that I out to have a go at making my own pins.

How hard could it be? I have got Canva as well and  Pic Monkey. I know how to watch a tutorial! In fact I spent a good couple of hours last night watching tutorials, and, convinced that I was an expert, decided to put it all into practice today.

I thought I might design a new Instagram picture showing off my colour coordinating and designing skills promoting my blog. Well. Instagram is still new to me; I signed up ages ago but only posted this week and have the grand total of three photos to my credit on there! Prolific is not really the word! Now, it is all Hugh’s fault that I actually decided to put my Instagram account to good use!

So today once I had done some chores, I sat down to design a masterpiece putting into practice all that I had learned last night. It took me ages to produce even one design. Miss Hap gave me a few tips (“that is rubbish” being one of them), and took great delight in nudging my arm whilst I painstakingly tried to overlay a picture and erase it onto a background which led me to taking a chunk out of my leg!

A few hours later when Mr Grump came home, I asked which one of the three designs he liked best. With ill-disguised indifference, he told me that he liked the one I had before! (I never even had one before). This is where it would come in bloody handy to have a bit of imagination as all three were a disaster!  Ah well, I think I’ll just stick to stringing words together, even if it is very, long-winded!
