THE GREAT BOOK OF LISTS, CHAPTER 2.1 : FAVORITE ONSCREEN KISSES — February 10, 2016

THE GREAT BOOK OF LISTS, CHAPTER 2.1 : FAVORITE ONSCREEN KISSES

Poster_-_Gone_With_the_Wind_01.jpg

Today for the next instalment of the Great Book of Lists  the Duchesse has asked us to think about our favourite onscreen kisses. Oh dear, this is going to get ugly! I am rubbish at watching films all the way through at the best of times, as I usually fall asleep half way through!

Here are the ones that I can remember, though!

  • Jack and Rose in Titanic. Oh, how I hated Rose’s pompous ass of a fiance and was glad when she decided that it would be much more fun to hang around with Jack. The love scene with these two was very tender and passionate. Of course, I cried at the end of the film. I am a sucker for a sad story.
  • Rhett and Scarlett in Gone with the Wind. This kiss was a long time coming! Scarlett was a bit of a minx and she got her comeuppance in the end!
  • Molly and Sam in Ghost. I have mentioned this film before, but the scene where Sam comes back has become almost iconic with ‘Unchained Melody’ playing as the action heats up!
  • Danny and Sandy in Grease. Yes, I just had to mention it as it is one of my favourite feel-good films, so there!
  • Dan and Alex in Fatal Attraction. Who can forget that rather manic love scene?! Dan got rather more than he bargained for when he messed with her!

I think I have done rather well actually considering my appalling film-watching  track record!

Episode 415: Tuesday Tidbit. Getting In The Mood. — July 14, 2015

Episode 415: Tuesday Tidbit. Getting In The Mood.

Things are heating up around here as I get ‘in the mood’ for my Tuesday Tidbit post. Speaking of which,  I am interested in knowing what ‘lights your fire’ when it comes to getting ready to get it on. Here are a few of the more obvious ones:

Setting the scene. Most of us are familiar with this old chestnut!  The candle-lit meal, good food, good wine, a bit of Barry White (or whatever floats your boat) playing soft and low. Something sexy for dessert, like strawberries or chocolate or both, that you can feed each other, or just have each other for dessert!

Watching a sexy movie together. Mind you be careful that you don’t go over the top and put on something hardcore that will scare your partner to death, thinking they are going to have a lot to live up to, or it might end up killing the mood! By the same token, a Disney movie is not going to get you very far either (unless of course, that just happens to be your thing)!

Give Each Other A Massage A sensual massage can be a great lead-up to a bit of loving. Hands stroking all over the body discovering all those sensitive little places…let’s hope that no-one is ticklish!

Having a Bath or Shower together.  This can definitely become very steamy; slippery soap, lathering each other up, especially in all those little crevices. Providing no-one burns themselves on the hot tap, or sits on the plug, then bathtime can be lots of fun! Just don’t over-fill it or there could be a bit of a tidal wave with all that motion!

Do any of these get you in the mood, or is it something else entirely?

Episode 341: Romantic Old Fools! — May 24, 2015

Episode 341: Romantic Old Fools!

Ahhh romance….I remember it well (just about)! As time goes by, it seems to go out of the window a bit; take Valentine’s Day for example, I was not feeling very well this year and it ended up as a bit of a damp squib as you can read here.

Mr Grump does sometimes bring me home some flowers, but he no longer bothers to take off the ‘reduced’ sticker, and I oohh and ahhh over the rather tired looking blooms, happy that at least he thought of me.

We very rarely sit cuddled up on the settee together now watching some sort of romantic movie either. We changed our furniture about 18 months ago and he now has an armchair (yes he is an official Old Git), whilst myself and Miss Hap have the nice big settee to ourselves. Not only that but I nearly always fall asleep watching films (apart from the Disney ones of course)!

Well last night Mr Grump lit the candles as usual but then disappeared off to the shed. I wondered what he was up to, but after a bit of banging and crashing around, he returned triumphant with a load more candles. He faffed about digging out some more candle holders and placed them all over the front room creating a lovely atmosphere.

He informed me that he liked to have things nice for his wife (he had been at the beer). and as Miss Hap had gone upstairs by then thought he would put on a bit of 80s music which I always enjoy. I even got a bit of his ‘twerking’ thrown in as he did here.

After a while of singing along, the mood changed as George Michael’s ‘A Different Corner’ came on. Mr Grump thought it would be nice to have a smoochy dance to it like in the ‘old days.’ Fine, but it isn’t the hold days anymore! I had on my pjs for a start, but I trotted up to him and we had a bit of a dance.

It seems as if we were a bit out of practice though (although shuffling about in a circle is not exactly difficult). I trod on his foot, which meant that he was kind of pinned to the spot, so he told me to,

“get off my slipper!” I did so and he was free to shuffle a bit more. The problem is that going around in a circle after a few beers is a little bit dizzying, and he stumbled landing heavily on my ingrown toenail! Suffice it to say, we decided to sit it out!

Episode 307: Uplifting Movies! — April 28, 2015

Episode 307: Uplifting Movies!

This post is inspired by A Momma’s View and But I Smile Anyway.

Both of these lovely ladies have been awarded the ‘Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award’ which is very well deserved, They both have fantastic blogs, which, if you have not checked out yet, please do as you are missing out! Anyway, one of the questions asked was ‘what is your favourite animated film?’ and I decided to write a post about this as suggested by Momma.

Animated films, especially Disney ones, have always been a part of my life. i remember as a child always being taken to see the latest release. I cried in ‘Pinocchio’ when he got swallowed by the whale apparently. I loved ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Snow White’ although I was a bit scared of the evil step-mother (I was a sensitive child)!

Films like ‘The Lady and The Tramp’ and ‘The Aristocats’ were great as well, as was ‘101 Dalmatians.’ There always seemed to be some kind of moral in these films, and of course, they always had a happy ending, which made me feel better.

More recently we have the CGI films as well such as ‘Tangled’,’Despicable Me’ and the ‘Shrek’ films.I loved all of those. These films seem to consider the adults that are watching them as well, and there is normally a lot of humour in them that goes straight over a child’s head, but give the parents a good laugh. Donkey in ‘Shrek’ just makes me laugh every time he says anything!

I love the cleverness of ‘Shrek’ as well. Mike Myers is a genius in my opinion! The way he depicts the fairy tale characters is so funny. Look at how he made Prince Charming such a mummy’s boy, and a baddie as well; and what about mad Merlin in his little dress?! I could go on, but actually, I haven’t even got to my favourite film yet!

This brings me to ‘Up’, the story about an old man, a boy and a house. It had so many messages in this film; friendship, love, determination, dreams, sorrow, and finally acceptance. I have to say that both me and Mr Grump cried in this film (he is a big softy under all that grouchiness)!

It was the fact that the old man was so sad to lose his wife. They had built a dream together and he was going to see it through right to the end, despite the many obstacles that were put in his way. However, it transpired after looking through his wife’s scrap-book that he had already fulfilled her dream before she died. I also thought it was so touching how the crabby old man and the overly cheerful little boy managed to find a connection with each other at the end.

I am pretty useless nowadays at watching films without falling asleep, but my inner child always keeps me awake during the animated ones!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘X’ —

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘X’

With three days left to go on the Blogging From A-Z Challenge  we are getting to the really tricky letters of the alphabet, and my poor brain is having to work extra hard.Today we have the letter ‘X’. Now this letter looks a little uncompromising, a bit grumpy and cross with its arms folded over its chest! I am not surprised seeing as it rarely gets a turn in the starring role at the beginning of a word, However today I am giving it top billing and would like to present to you…….

X-Rated! Yes of course, this had to be the obvious choice for me, It can be immoral and indecent, obscene and offensive. This word is the sexy and steamy DVD that comes out on ‘special occasions’ when the kids aren’t about! This is the gory and gruesome horror movie that gives you nightmares for weeks!

This is the seedy cinema, with the hardcore porno films; the pervy punter looking for some ‘adult entertainment;’ the young couple having a bit of rumpy-pumpy in the park!

X-Rated to me, is the kind of thing you do not want to associate with if the kids (or the parents) are around!

Episode 198: You Know You Are Past It When…… — March 5, 2015

Episode 198: You Know You Are Past It When……

  • You forgot what you did yesterday and it wasn’t due to an over-indulgence of alcohol! I like to keep a diary which I have done for years. The problem is when I go to write it up, sometimes I forget what I have done and have to try to work my way backwards to jog my memory!
  • Instead of having a bit of ‘afternoon delight’ you end up nodding off! You know the scene, you have got the house to yourselves, a good couple of hours of undisturbed time alone to do whatever you want…..so you fall asleep on the settee!
  • The only time you wear something ‘trendy’ it is accidental. You are at that stage now where comfort is a must; forget fashion, you want practical! So when you do put on something that is trendy, it is more likely that after 20 years it is finally back in fashion!
  • You still talk about ‘records’,’discos’ and ‘going to the pictures’. Most of the youth of today  do not know what a record is, and have never had the pleasure of listening to their favourite song jumping about all over the place where the record had become scratched or warped! Kids don’t go to discos (unless it is the school disco for some reason), they go to clubs (well at least I think so as I am way old to frequent such places)!  I still talk about ‘going to the pictures to see a film.’ No, that is old hat. It is called a MOVIE. Pah!
  • You type out a text message in full. Now I am pretty ‘with it’ I know an emoticon when I see one, and I can even do a smiley face. However, I do not understand all this shorthand typing the young favour when sending a text. Even worse is the lack of punctuation! Really!
  • You are getting ready to go to bed when the young are just getting ready to go out for the night! You know what it’s like….you got up early….work was busy…you are shattered, and end up in bed no later than 10pm! Now for young people the night is just getting started at 10pm. They have had a few drinks, and in ready to have a good time. When you are getting up early the next morning (another sign of being past-it), they are just falling into their beds!
  • You are always reminiscing about the ‘old days’! Yes things were so much better back then of course. Life was rosy and we never got bored! However, when you constantly harp on about the glory days to your kids, their glazed eyes soon tell you that they are bored, and you are past it!
