I have come to the conclusion that I rather like blogging! I have been amazed at how many new people I have ‘met’ in the last 4 months since I started, and I even think of a few of them as friends. However, it is still a bit of a minefield for me, but luckily I am not the only one who is struggling with some of the aspects of blogging, which would never have occurred to me, before I started blogging myself!
I came across a post from My Thoughts On a Page who raised some very valid points on some of the dos and don’ts of blogging etiquette, as it were. Many of these thoughts had already crossed my mind as well….
Things like commenting, liking, reblogging articles etc are all very well and good, but I was very nervous of doing any of these things at first (especially on blogs with loads of followers) as I didn’t want them to think I was just doing it to promote myself. However, I in my opinion, blogging is supposed to be all about putting your work out there for others to see and enjoy! so if I like something, I will comment on it now, like it , and I have even reblogged one or two posts.
Yes, of course everyone wants their blog to be noticed, and they share it on social media sites like Facebook, Pinterest etc, as well as Twitter. Now I have a bit of a problem here as I don’t use my real name so can’t use my accounts to share my stuff! In fact only a handful of my friends and family even know that I have a blog. let alone what it is called!
I have set up Facebook and Twitter sites for my blog which is bloody pointless as I have less than 5 friends on each, and they have already seen my blog on WordPress anyway!! I am nothing if not a trier…..but I always get it wrong!
Lastly, no matter how many times I read about ‘tags’ it didn’t really sink into my thick skull and enter my brain However, today, as luck would have it, I saw in my reader this post by Opinionated Man. Fantastic, now I get it, and I will show off in a minute by tagging my post appropriately for once! (Well. I’ll give it a go)!
Even in writing this post, I had a dilemma! I got the inspiration for it from the two blogs that I have mentioned. Now, decency and good manners dictates that I should credit these blogs for giving me some ideas. However, will I have caused offence by drawing attention to my blog daring to pingback to TWO blogs?!
Well I don’t know, but as I bumble and blunder my way around this crazy blogosphere, trying to dodge the ‘mines’ along the way, I hope I continue to meet lots of new friends and discover many more new and interesting blogs. Oh yes, I hope that more people get to see mine too! 🙂

It’s not easy!
Only 3 people I know in real life know about my blog. 🙂
There are a lot of people blogging that are quite selfish, they expect people to follow them, comment and like everything they do but don’t do anything in return!
It defeats the point of a blogging ‘Community’ It’s a very fun thing to do though, i have become a bit obsessed with it since i started 2 weeks ago…

I’m lagging behind you in every way… The blog could easily eat up many hours of my day … Hasty poster is never gonna be my call sign… A tiny handful of people I do NOT know read or have read my blog. Sad but true . You, on the other hand, are real champion.

Wendy, thank you. I have to say that my blog does take up a lot of my time but it makes me feel good to write it, and I would love to hope that I can make someone else smile with some of my posts. I enjoy reading your blog too; you have a great sense of humour, and a direct and honest approach which I think is great! So although you many not be Mrs Hasty Poster (I reckon I might qualify for that one, you are Mrs Weekly, Well Worth Waiting For poster)!

What great timing with this blog Edwina. I love it. Just emailed you my frustrations asking your advice. Will this be one of those “the blind leading the blind” scenarios. Thanx for sharing.

Hi, just going to check e mail now. Yep, it’s bound to be the ‘blind leading the blind’ but I’ll try my best to help!

I am still gob-smacked that Edwina isn’t your real name! lol
Yes it is a minefield. I mostly get into trouble for posting something that a family member takes umbrage at! I do sometimes think that posting on busy blogs is a bit self serving, but hey, I am trying to get myself out there! I also think I should respond to every comment, but some days there just isn’t time.

Ha Ha! Well Edwina is part of my name…and it is much prettier than my actual name! Yes, I know what you mean about family members. My sister didn’t like me calling her Mrs OCD in one post and also blabbing that she hangs out her washing in her dressing gown! It is difficult knowing the best way to get ourselves out there! Still, we blunder on….!

You’re doing fine! For the longest time I thought tagging our blogs was like “poking” on Facebook, although I don’t know what good giving a Poke does either. But I thought they were both just “little games” for adults like our kids play, “Gotcha last, etc.” Then someone explained it more to me and how it helps others find our posts, like advertising does in stores. But I still misunderstood and thought it was like a “clearance tag” like when a shop owner wants to get rid of merchandise they keep marking it down, lol. Oy, am I the densest!

Hi Edwina. No worries about facebook or twitter. I don’t have them, but I put on their buttons nevertheless since I guess so many people do. And you know what? It works for me. 🙂 (you can check my article ‘anagram’ for that, don’t have to comment). Cheers!

{In case you already have] As you can see, while the article has quite some fb shares (it belongs to ‘The Big Five’, with more than 1K views), it has zero commenters. Compare that with ‘tahun baru’, less than 100 views (up to now) but more than 10 commenters. You know my Numero Uno (more than 2K views)? It has less than 5 commenters! LOL
So it seems that clicks don’t necessarily go hand in hand with comments, huh? :mrgeen: ). All the more reason no to worry about the soc-meds, I guess. One thing holds true, though: blogging sure is fun! Good luck, and Happy Blogging. Cheers! 🍸

Thank you so much and yes I did check it out (with the help of Google translate)!
Blogging definitely is fun even if I don’t quite understand it all yet 🙂

Funny – why would we think that we should worry about the ‘sharks’ that might hang out on blog posts? I lean to the premise that lots more are spectators hanging out in public places with their cellphones clicking or other mindless activity.

Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I am Judy, in my (very) early fifties and decided that life definitely gets more interesting as it goes on! I am a wife and a mum and have just finished University as a Registered Nurse, after having worked as an Associate Practitioner in the NHS. I am also a poet and the author of my debut book, 'Rhymes of the Times.' I love to laugh, and I love rhyming words too, so I joined the two together, and my book was born. I am currently working on another book in the series also. I am a prolific blogger and enjoy writing funny stories, anecdotes, and anything really that takes my fancy.
