I am pretty dreadful at taking photos and even worse at trying to crop them or Photoshop them (that would be a wonderful skill to have, what fun it would be to erase wrinkles, shave off wobbly bits and generally ‘tart up’ my photo! Anyway, back to reality and todays Blogging 101 task…..
We should keep on personalizing our blog, and add a header or a widget. Now I have kind of worked out the widget thing, and have already got plenty of those. As for the header, I do know I need something there as it is a bit blank, but when I tried to put my pic in there it cropped my head off! Now I know, it is probably a damn sight better to look at, but I wanted my new text to show(Edwina’s Episodes, I know, you can’t knock my originality) and that was above my head!
Anyway, I have gone back to my original photo, with text as the logo as it was before. I would like to just put a pattern in as a header or something like that, but don’t understand how to!
Does anyone else know how to do that please?

Not a clue, sorry!

Hi,
Just see how much is cropped off and try adjusting the image height according to that. For example, if only two inches of your original picture remains, try putting your text and image in those two inches – you get the idea.
As for cropping, it can do it with any software. Check the software you use for viewing your pictures.
Have fun.

I’m not sure what you mean, although you might be trying to do something the blog theme won’t allow. Do you want “a humorous look at the life of an everyday woman” to be replaced by “Edwina’s Episodes, I know, you can’t knock my originality”? or do you want that last catch phrase at the very top above your photo?
The only other suggestion I can make about your pic cropping your head off (and don’t worry I’m not about to get rude) is that you should try cropping the pic to size yourself. Crop the bottom. It tells you the required size as soon as you start that process, but can’t quite remember where. That’s prob not much help

Thanks for your help Cat. I will be having another go, and do a bit of cropping later on. 🙂

I think if that top pic was more rectangular, you might get a title above it. It’s a good photo and the colours are nice

I know how you feel! Sometimes I think that I need a degree in operating my own blog as I’m a bit technologically-challenged. Thank goodness my husband doesn’t mind helping me occasionally. Good luck!! 🙂

Thank you. I am too cross with it now to mess anymore, I will see whether I feel like it tomorrow! 🙂

I reckon it’s a bit like the sub-title, Judy… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I have a personal preference for the clean, minimal look. Some blogs are so busy and fussy that I get distracted… or deterred… by all the whistles and bells…

Well mine can never be accused of having too many whistles and bells, that’s for sure! I do quite like it now anyway. Thanks for the advice 🙂

When you’re shopping themes, you have to look at things like “Custom Header” “Custom Background” and whatnot. Not all themes support them. Then you must take your image to paint and increase or reduce its proportion. Sometimes, you need a background to the header to make up for the space without distorting your image. It takes a long time unless you’re skilled.

Skilled I am not! Sod it! I will leave it alone for now, at least! 🙂

It really wasn’t easy to find a pic that would work within the restrictions of the crop. But I managed it finally! Now I have a little collection that I’ll change out from time to time…..thanks to you!
