We are in the last week now of the wonderful Blogging From A-Z Challenge which brings us to the letter ‘W.’ This is a bit of a misnomer really as it resembles two ‘v’s rather than two ‘u’s! It is quite a broad and welcoming letter. The wise elder statesman of letters. However, the word I have chosen is perhaps more in the wacky and wild category……. I give you
Whirligig! I love even the sound of this word. It is whizzing around wildly, washing twirling and whirling around in the breeze. Frenzied spinning around and around spiralling out of control almost.
It pirouettes, daintily, then gathering speed until it is gyrating like a whirling dervish, with robes forming huge circles as they gather pace!
I feel giddy just thinking about this word!

That is the word I use to name the seed pods that come off our maple trees.

How would this word fare out in the case of Keira Knightley in Anna Karenina, when she’s dancing drunkenly for the first time with her lover?

I think it is an extremely apt word for that

Have you seen the film?

No. I looked up and watched the dancing scene you referred to, I think whirligig was a perfect word for this. The twirling round and round faster and faster, the dress itself and the way it splays out when she dances.

Another wonderful, whimsical word! I always think of the film, “The Sound of Music” when I hear the phrase–whirling dervish. The nuns describe Maria as being like a whirling dervish in one of the opening scenes. 🙂

Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I am Judy, in my (very) early fifties and decided that life definitely gets more interesting as it goes on! I am a wife and a mum and have just finished University as a Registered Nurse, after having worked as an Associate Practitioner in the NHS. I am also a poet and the author of my debut book, 'Rhymes of the Times.' I love to laugh, and I love rhyming words too, so I joined the two together, and my book was born. I am currently working on another book in the series also. I am a prolific blogger and enjoy writing funny stories, anecdotes, and anything really that takes my fancy.
