I have teamed up again with the talented Sandra (or Daffy as I like to call her), from Wild Daffodil to bring you another bit of silliness this Saturday. Sandra is incredibly artistic and creative, and I just love the images she has created out of shells, stones and flowers.
One of the nicest things about Sandra’s blog is that you never know what she is going to get up to next, from beach art to knitted wigs, and mandalas to making spirals in her garden.
This week’s Silly Saturday is all about a poor tomato named Tom. Daffy thought it reminded her of a fantastic poem by one of my idols Pam Ayres which is called ‘Oh, I wish I looked after me teeth’ which you can see here.
I have tried to capture the flavour of Pam’s poem in the one I wrote this week. When you read it, you will need to imagine a good old West Country accent!!!
Tom wished he’d looked after his teeth
And not neglected to brush underneath
Too many times he’d forgotten
And now they were rotten
Oh, how Tom wished he’d looked after his teeth!
He used to be proud of his smile
His teeth were the whitest for miles
But now it’s not funny
That he’s ended up gummy
It really is cramping his style
When younger, Tom was so green
Unaware of the dangers unseen
He thought his teeth would stay white
Much to the ladies’ delight
Despite his poor dental hygiene!
Now, to smile makes him blush
Exposing his mouth full of mush
It makes him so sad
He mourns the teeth that he had
How deeply his pride has been crushed!
Tom wants to look for romance
But not while his teeth are so scant
Beyond his patch, he won’t venture
Until he gets his new dentures
He fancies a set of implants!

Hi Sis how are you doing 😊😊😊 I do love this cautionary tale. I hope Tom gets his new dentures soon, he looks scary at the moment, I think I’d be tempted to use that knife! I am afraid that the teeth when they arrive might make him look vicious… Not sure what the ladies will make of him😱
I hope you and yours are well and that you are doing well on your course 💜💜💜💜

Hi Sis. I am doing well thanks, back on placement for 8 weeks this time.
Yes, poor old Tom does look rather scary with his rotten, gaping mouth. Hopefully, he has a good dentist that can make him some fancy new choppers that will encourage the ladies not to scare them away!
I hope you are feeling well too xx

You ticked lots of (veg?) boxes with this one Eddie! Homage to this poor tomato, my friend’s garden produce and to Pam Ayres. Another fun creative collaboration. 🙂 Thanks so much for the links.

Hi Judy. It’s been a long time. For some reason, I wasn’t getting your posts, but here I am due to my connection with Sandra. She shared this humorous collaboration about poor, lonely Tom and his problems with not being able to hook up with a hot tomato. Just loved it! ❤

Hi Olga, how lovely to see you here! I haven’t been posting as often as I used to and also ‘Edwina’s Episodes’ is no more, due to me having too many technical problems and the website constantly crashing, so I had to start again with this blog. Sandra has such a lovely blog, she is a very talented lady and great fun to work with on these ‘Silly Saturdays.’ 🙂

Made me laugh out loud…read this first on Sandra’s blog…we are friends from In a Vase on Monday. http://noellemace.blogspot.com/2018/02/in-vase-on-monday-shapes-and-shadows.html..I think this ought to be sent to The Institute of Dentistry…see my comment first posted on Sandra’s blog. Loved your poem about the heat and summer sleeping…really sums up my nights for just how many weeks?

Hi Noelle, thanks so much for coming over here. I have seen Sandra’s entries for ‘Vase on a Monday’ and I love them, they are so beautiful. I will come over to see the other entries too as flowers always cheer me up.
If everyone is in agreement, we can certainly send the poem off to the Institute of Dentistry.
We are now starting to get the cool weather now, which is a welcome relief….wonder how long that will last?! 🙂

Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I am Judy, in my (very) early fifties and decided that life definitely gets more interesting as it goes on! I am a wife and a mum and have just finished University as a Registered Nurse, after having worked as an Associate Practitioner in the NHS. I am also a poet and the author of my debut book, 'Rhymes of the Times.' I love to laugh, and I love rhyming words too, so I joined the two together, and my book was born. I am currently working on another book in the series also. I am a prolific blogger and enjoy writing funny stories, anecdotes, and anything really that takes my fancy.
