Episode 263: Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge #38: Ill & Rest

I really enjoyed my first attempt at at a Haiku last week, and some of the other entries that I checked out were brilliant! Thanks so much to Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge #38

I thought I would have another go this week. The words to be used are ‘Ill’ and ‘rest.’

Here is my attempt entitled ‘Nymphomaniac.’

She yearned for a man

A blind date was ill-advised

Please give it a rest!

Episode 262: I’ve No Pinterest In Tweeting on Linkedin! Maybe Facebook Is More My Style!

I try to use Social Networks

To talk about my blog

But being tech-illiterate

I’d have more luck plaiting fog!

Linked in is more like locked out

As I don’t know what to do

Twitter makes me bitter

As I haven’t got a clue!

Pinterest lost my interest

Many months ago

On Instagram I have no likes

Because I am so slow!

Facebook is my favourite

As I don’t get in a rage

It would make me very happy

If you would ‘like’ my Facebook page!

Episode 261: In The Summertime…… —

Episode 261: In The Summertime……

British summertime….long hot, balmy evenings, beautiful blue skies, shorts, and little dresses….no chance of that yet! Yes, although British summertime officially began today, it has been a grey old day around here with a good dollop of rain chucked in for good measure as well as a howling wind!

Last night we were to put our clocks forward an hour, to welcome in summertime with an extra hour of daylight in the evening. Now I had to work today, and was worried that my phone (I use that for my alarm) would not automatically update and that I would get up an hour late. I needn’t have worried.

It blasted into life at what was effectively 4:15 this morning! I was groggy eyed and quickly groped for my wristwatch to make sure of the time before cursing and muttering, and dragging myself out of bed.

The night staff were understandably thrilled to be leaving an hour early, but the tired and drawn faces of the rest of the day shift belied the fact that they too had struggled with the loss of that important hour’s sleep!

Anyway, the shift itself was the same as usual, short-staffed and extremely busy, but in my case, peppered with yawns, as I just couldn’t seem to shake of the tiredness, which is silly really being as I went to sleep early to compensate for the ‘lost hour.’

Isn’t it great that due to it being ‘summer time’ now, I get to see another hour of dull grey skies and pouring rain before it gets dark. Things don’t get any better than this!!!!

Episode 260: Is That 20 inch Waist Real? Corset is! — March 28, 2015

Episode 260: Is That 20 inch Waist Real? Corset is!

One of the problems that I have with my figure is my waist (or lack of). Apart from the healthy eating regime I am trying to stick to, I have also taken up hula-hooping (thanks to my blogging pal Ritu), in the hope that I might be able to whittle my waist into some sort of shape.

A young woman from Venezuela however, had trained her waist down to a mere 20 inches! She has done this by wearing a corset for 23 hours a day, over the last six years. Apparently, although it was uncomfortable to begin with, she now loves the feel of the ‘pressure’ at her waist, and has no trouble sleeping in it!

She has had a few bit of plastic surgery as well to …ahem… enhance some of her other assets, and a bit of liposuction in her thighs, but the waist cinching is down to the corset and also eating healthily and exercise.

She is very proud of her hourglass shape and loves the attention that it brings her wherever she goes. In fact she would like to become famous because of her figure. and despite doctors warning her that this extreme corset wearing could damage her body in later life, is determined to keep wearing it.

I have to say, as much as I would love a waist, I think this woman looks a little unusual having such a small waist in comparison to the rest of her.

Do you think she is sexy or scary?

Episode 259: Multi-Tasking or Mayhem? —

Episode 259: Multi-Tasking or Mayhem?

Apparently us women are supposed to be pretty good at multitasking; I think I am to a point, especially when I’m on the phone. Sometimes I can be talking to my sister on the phone for an hour or more, so being able to get on with some other jobs at the same time can come in handy!

I am pretty good at ironing with the phone balanced between right ear and shoulder, as well as carrying on a conversation, likewise dusting and polishing. However, I cannot talk and type, or read at the same time. No, that is definitely too much for my poor little brain to manage at once and the concentration goes completely, so that I am either typing rubbish or talking rubbish (well, more so than usual, anyway)!

I can knit and watch TV at the same time though. Yes, I bet you are impressed with that one. What I need to mention here is that only applies if I am following an easy pattern. If I am counting stitches or something that requires a smidgen of thought, then I usually miss a huge chunk of what happened in the film or programme and drive everyone mad by asking what is going on. Other than that if a juicy bit comes on the TV then I need to watch, then stitches can get dropped, or I have to unpick rows that I have buggered  up!

I can’t do anything else whilst driving, except listen to music, and that has only been a recent thing. I suppose it is due to the fact that I am not keen on driving and feel I need to concentrate. When I used to smoke I rarely had a cigarette whilst driving. I remember once when I did, and the top of the cigarette fell off onto my lap (it was still lit), I was panicking like mad trying to bat at it to put it out, whilst concentrate on the road. I didn’t do that again!

At work of course is a different matter entirely, I am a very good multi-tasker as we all have to be. We are constantly running from one job to the next, and on the way to that job, get grabbed to do another one or two. That with answering the buzzers, and talking to relatives, or other medical staff as you go about your chores, is just part and parcel of the job.

Are you a good multi-tasker, and do you think women are better at it than men?

Episode 258 : Five Photos, Five Stories – Day 5: My Sister’s Sun Lounge —

Episode 258 : Five Photos, Five Stories – Day 5: My Sister’s Sun Lounge

I recently received the following invitation from Author SB Mazing

I’m about to invite you to join in a challenge I recently accepted. Five Photos, Five Stories. I thought this challenge could present you with the opportunity of viewing blogging from a different angle, to do something different, anything that suits you for that matter. It’s entirely up to you. …

The Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge rules require you to post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo.  It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or simply a short paragraph – it’s entirely up to you.

This photo is of my sister’s sun lounge and was taken around Christmas time. As you can see, it has been decorated with lots of  little twigs and sparkling lights. There were also home-made stockings hanging up and an advent calendar. Festive bunting is draped around the room, as well as different coloured and scented candles, It looks beautiful at night especially.

I love this room at my sister and brother-in-law’s house. It is light and airy, and whatever the occasion, is decorated accordingly! At Easter, I know there will be different bunting hanging as well as lots of easter flowers and eggs that have been made,

There is a massive dining table in there are well which fills nearly the whole length of the room. It is always beautifully decorated to suit the festivities and the guests always have a named place setting with a special token or picture that represents them.

They are wonderful hosts and make so much effort to make everyone feel welcome. With my sister being a superb chef and brother-in-law a wonderful musician, there is always great food and great music at theirs as well as a lovely environment!

I would like to invite Mary-Anne from Breathing life

Then each day, nominate another blogger to carry on this challenge.

Accepting the challenge is entirely up to the person nominated, it is not a command. And actually everyone can join in. So feel free to if you like the idea.

Episode 256. Bursting Out All Over! —

Episode 256. Bursting Out All Over!

Although I absolutely hate the colour of my work uniform, (it is the same grotty grey that you get when you put black and white items  together on a hot wash) I am at least grateful that I don’t have to worry what I have to wear each day.

I have worked in offices in the past and it was always a challenge to come up with a different outfit every day, that was suitable for the office, and for the weather. I always like to try to look smart even if I never manage classy or elegant that I wish I was!

Anyway, myself and Mr Grump decided to nip into town today to have a mooch about, plus there were a couple of things we wanted to get. I told him that I was ‘just going to look in the window’ of the hairdressers I usually frequent to see if they were busy.

As luck would have it they weren’t. That is pretty rare so I asked the if they could fit me in for a quick trim as my fringe had grown right out and my hair was looking a bit tatty! There were two stylists working, one young dark-haired woman and an older woman with blonde hair, she was the one that ushered me off to do my hair.

As she was snipping away and chatting, I kind of turned to the side to reply, and almost got a faceful of boob! She was not a small woman, but I think the top she was wearing might have shrunk or something, as I was confronted by what looked like two shelled hard-boiled eggs (only about 5 times the size) spilling out of two giant egg-cups, thinly covered by a scrap of black lycra masquerading as a t-shirt!

Mr Grump then bowled in and started moaning because I was mid haircut and he thought I would be ages. The shop phone went off and another girl appeared from upstairs, also in a low-cut number, boobs jiggling about as she descended each stair. Mr Grump’s eyes were popping out of his head! He had already clocked the woman doing my hair, and now he was treated to this other spectacle as well.

He decided to hang around for a bit longer, but i was almost done anyway. As we came out of the shop, he said with what he hoped conveyed disapproval,

“Every time you go in there those girls have got their t**s out!”  So that’s why he always comes in looking for me when he knows exactly where I have gone!

Hmmmm, isn’t it about time that hairdressers wore a uniform?!

Free-For-All Friday #3 —

Free-For-All Friday #3

Here we are at  Free For-All Friday again and I have found yet more fantastic posts for you this week that I really hope you will go and check out.

Breathing life Mary-Anne is really a Jill of all trades (and mistress of them all)! She is a teacher, poet, and prolific knitter amongst many other things. This is one of her latest projects – and it just blew me away!

The Nudge Wink Report This story caught my eye as it was as terrifying as it was funny! I think Mr Grump might feel safer in a car with me if this came off!

I Am Not Sick Boy. Patty has written a wonderful post here in response to a ‘Daily Post Prompt’. I wished I could have been there with her!

Once Upon Your Prime Stephanie has one of the funniest blogs I have seen. She certainly doesn’t disappoint in this excellent post, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Single Family Asylum Now I have only been following this blog for a short time, but have had more than my fair share of laughs from it. This post in particular is side-splittingly hilarious, and I  am sure, is something most of us can relate to.

A Prompt  Reply . Are you looking forward to the return of the spring? Well after reading this hilarious post you might have a couple of reservations! I loved it!

A Momma’s View I always find something interesting or inspiring on this blog, and some of the photos on here are so beautiful. This post is one that makes you stop and think, and look at things differently.

The Write Place. Cheryl has done a fantastic post here that is well worth checking out. She has written a short ‘Flash Fiction’ story which I thought  was very clever.

Listful Thinking  I laughed my head off at this post. The humour and self-deprecating way it was written, just had me in stitches!  A great start to my morning!

If you would like to share any great posts that you have read then please feel free to leave a link in the comments.

Also,  if there are any improvements I can make to Free-For-All Friday then I would be glad to hear about them. 🙂
