We have got some great words to use this week for Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenge. I have decided to be a little more serious this week!
Here is my attempt.
You’re so last season!
Spring will bring you a fresh look.
You need a new style.

This is a great word for Linda’s Just Jot it January prompt today – ‘elegance.’ It is something that I am truly lacking in, but wish that I had.
I thought I would dig out a poem that I wrote some time ago for those of you that have not seen it yet, about my desire to be more graceful and elegant!
Oh how I wish I was graceful
and not a disaster on wheels
I trip over every obstacle
And my shoes have got broken off heels
I try so hard to be upright
But always fall flat on my face
My body is covered in bruises
From where I have fallen from grace
I long to be elegant and classy
But that is just not to be
Whilst others are sipping their cocktails
I’m knocking over my tea.
Life for me would be perfect
If only I was more chic
Instead of awkward and bumbling
And coming across as a freak
Oh how I wish I was graceful
But life is not very fair
So I’ll carry on being clumsy
And pretending that I just don’t care!

I am not sure what to write about for Linda’s Just Jot it January prompt word today. We have been given ‘collection’ to use. I am not really a collector of things. Some people collect spoons, teapots, beer mats, all manner of things really, but that is not for me.
I did have a small record collection, but that got left behind in a move, I had some cassette tapes, but they are amongst my other clutter up in the loft, and as for my CD collection, well it is probably, at least, twenty years out of date! I haven’t bought music for years, and never buy DVDs. I do have a lot of books, though.
I am a little too obsessive to be a collector, I think. If I started a collection of something then I would constantly be adding to it, never knowing when to stop until I ended up on ‘Hoarders’ or some such programme. I would then get het up if I had to part with any of it.
I am very possessive of my possessions actually and am not keen on chucking anything out, especially if someone has given it to me. I have recently had some help from my sister on decluttering the shelves in my front room that were so full up, you couldn’t actually see anything!
Every photo of Miss Hap from a baby to present, that was taken by a school or nursery photographer, were fighting for space; some teacups that were given to me when dad died were also vying for a spot, as were the many candles that I have got all over the place!
It pained me a great deal to put most of the photos in the loft, and get rid of some of the candles that had seen better days! However, the shelves look much better, and that actually makes me feel better!
For me, collections equate to clutter and I have already got enough of that as it is!
Last chance to get your vote in for Annette. Let’s show her our support!

Today we have got ‘calendar’ by TJ for his weekly household haiku challenge prompt word. Mine is hanging up on a kitchen cupboard and as my memory is bad, I try to write down appointments and birthdays and stuff – that is if I can remember them in the first place!
Anyway, here are my takes on it this week:
Measurement of life:
happy days celebrated
Sad days reminisced
***
Anticipation
A Milestone is approaching
The dreaded five-o!

Today I am going to be combining two of Linda’s challenges, Just Jot it January, and also Stream of Consciousness, please visit her blog if you want to find out details of how to join in. You will find loads of other goodies there too, so set aside some time!
What I love about the Stream of Consciousness posts is the freedom to go wherever the words take me. Yes, I have a prompt word, but it is still flexible enough for me to be able to go where I want to with it.
The negative side of writing one of these posts is that, apart from sorting out typos (thank God for that), we are not to edit the post at all. Now, I am someone who tends to just go off and write whatever comes to mind anyway, but I have been known to edit when it doesn’t make sense, which is more often than I would like.
I have to say, I am in awe of those people that always turn out a perfectly written blog post, and to be fair, it is common courtesy to ensure there are no typos or grammatical mistakes as the reader does not want to be mentally correcting as they go along. However, I have occasionally cringed as I have looked back on my previous posts and found the odd typo or spelling mistake, which I have immediately corrected. I find that the more I look at something, the more I glaze over, and then I don’t end up seeing any errors.
I am a novice at writing Stream of Consciousness Posts, having only written a couple before, but funnily enough, these are the posts that I have struggled with not being able to edit, the most! Weird!
It’s been announced! The venue has been sorted for the next Blogger’s Bash in London. I am hoping to go this year and am pretty excited about meeting everyone!
The Bloggers Bash Committee said this year would be bigger and better – and trust me, it will be. We, the committee, have plans afoot to make it a cracking day.
If you don’t know what the bash is, it’s an annual get together for bloggers everywhere. The bash is open to everyone, whether you blog about writing, cooking, parenthood, beauty, fishing or anything in between, this is the event for you. AND irrespective of blogging platform – so if you have friends from other platforms please let them know.
The event is open to any blogger from any blogging platform – and please, if you aren’t a wordpress blogger – share this post.
This is the chance for you to meet (in real life) all those firm friends you have made through blogging. This year, the bash is on Saturday the 11th June, in London, England.
I said we had plans…

For today’s prompt for Just Jot it January by Linda, we have been given ‘leadership.’ Now, I have never really thought of myself as being a leader or having the necessary qualities to become one. Having always been quiet and shy, telling others what to do, or being responsible for their actions is something that would not appeal to me at all when I was younger. I would much rather blend in, and do my job, asking for help when needed or perhaps show someone else how to do something, but almost be apologetic about if for knowing more than they did.
However, there are times in life when it is essential to take charge of a situation, be it work, social or domestic if things are to run smoothly. Surprisingly, I kind of fell into a leadership role without thinking too much about it. My ex-husband bought a cafe which he later converted into a kebab shop. I had to help run them both which meant that I was in charge of several staff, some of whom were his or my family members, or both! As you can imagine, it did get a bit fraught at times, but I managed to maintain relationships as well as help keep the business running smoothly.
Of course, as soon as we have children then, like it or not, we become role models and definitely need to hone our leadership skills, as children pick up on the slightest hesitancy or inconsistency as I have found to my cost! If we want them to grow up into decent, caring, honest and hard-working adults, then we have to lead by example. When they don’t behave as we want them to, then we also have to find a way to change this, which is where things can get tricky!
I remember when I worked in an office of a holiday brochure distribution company, having quite a strict boss. He was a director of the company in his 40s and could get quite shirty at times, as well as being pretty rude. (His people skills were not the best). However, the thing that I respected about him, was that apparently he had started off at this company as a young lad of 16 emptying the rubbish, then worked his way up to the top. This meant he knew all aspects of the business inside out, and when they were short staffed in the warehouse, he rolled his sleeves up and went down there to help them out.
I have realised over the years, that being a good leader is not about strutting around, shouting orders to others expecting them to bow down to your every command (well it is pretty handy in the military), it is much more complex than that. There are many qualities to being a good leader, like treating others with respect, and mucking in together when needed, as well as listening to and learning from others. I know that when needed, I can step up and be a leader!
It’s Friday again and time for me to share some of my favourite posts. This week, as usual, I have chosen a delicious assortment of goodies for your delectation! Please do visit these blogs to have a nose around, as there is so much more on offer.
A New Perspective Perhaps This post was short and to the point. It is something I think many of us are guilty of, in one way or another.
The Phil Factor This post made me laugh, although in some ways it is a bit scary!
DoubleU This really resonated with me. Sometimes, especially at the moment, I just hate going out too, and if I do, I just want to get back home as soon as possible.
Thoughts and Entanglements This is lovely, I could almost feel the slight breeze in my hair!
Deb Was Here Deb pays tribute to a very special person, which brought a lump to my throat.
Bun Karyudo Who says romance is dead? A wonderful heartfelt post with a touch of humour, This was right up my street.
So there you have a mixed selection of goodies to take you through the weekend. Enjoy!
Happy Friday!

Today the acting world suffers a sad loss due to the unexpected death of Alan Rickman. He is best known for playing villains, but particularly Professor Snape from the Harry Potter films. He has got to be one of the bet baddies ever! So very sad that he too had been suffering from cancer. He will be sadly missed.
