Wacky Word Wednesday

Welcome to Wednesday where I choose a wacky, weird or wonderful word that deserves to have its time in the spotlight. The one I have chosen for today is still used quite widely, but it is one that makes me laugh. We all know people like this, and I bet some of us are even guilty of it at times as well…

Skive. Ah yes, this is the shirker, sloping off work early, or nipping out every five minutes for a cig break or a loo stop.  It is the workshy waster wandering off when there is work to be done.  It is also the truant, bunking off school, or dodging disliked lessons, preferring to spend the day somewhere more exciting, yet not risk getting caught.

It is also the malingerer, feigning fake illnesses that stop them from working/going to school. They loaf around lethargically until the miraculous recovery kicks when they have got their way!

Needless to say, I was rubbish at it at school, and the one afternoon I did skive off, I got caught and found myself in the headmistresses office, being told I would NEVER amount to anything! (They were pretty strict in those days).

Have you ever had skiver itis?

Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt. #73 ‘Black’ & ‘White.’ — November 30, 2015

Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt. #73 ‘Black’ & ‘White.’

This week Ron has given us ‘black’ and ‘white’ to work with for his weekly Haiku Challenge.

I have had a bit of fun with it this week. Despite not being much of a Star Trek fan I have taken a bit of a liberty!

3 Day Quote Challenge: Day 3 —

3 Day Quote Challenge: Day 3

My dear friend Erika has nominated me to take part in this challenge again. Please visit her blog for a daily dose of music, wisdom and enlightenment. I am so pleased she nominated me for this challenge as it is one of my favourites.

Challenge rules:

  1. Post 3 quotes on 3 consecutive days
  2. Thank the person who nominated you
  3. Nominate 3 new bloggers each single day of the challenge

In light of the season, and recent events, I am going with a theme of thankfulness, and the ‘quotes’ are my own.

For the last day, after posting on family and work, this post will be about leisure. and of course, you all know what my favourite leisure activity is 🙂

For me, being a part of the blogging  community is having a wealth of taleneted, empathetic,  funny, and articualte people as my neighbours who are always there for a chat and a bit of advice.

I would like to nominate the following to take part if they fancy it 🙂

Today I am looking at work. In my job, I see so many people struggling with things many of us take for granted.

When you hate the thought of getting out of bed and going to work, remember there are those that would give anything just to be able to get out of bed, let alone have the strength to work.

Family: They see at your tantrum throwing, projectile puking, snotty snivelling  worst –  but still love you anway!

TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Tile.

I thought that ’tile’ was quite a tricky word for TJ’s household haiku challenge this week. I live in a modern house and could not think of anything that would be suitable for this word, apart from the obvious generic white tiles which are in the background.  Then I noticed  something…..

Friday Free-For-All — November 27, 2015

Friday Free-For-All

Yes, it’s back! My Friday-Free-For-All has returned after a temporary holiday whilst I took part in NaNoWriMo.

As usual, I have chosen some posts that have struck a chord with me in one way or another, either they are funny, sad, or inspirational in some way. I then wanted to share them with you in case you missed them, which would be a dreadful shame. Please take a moment to visit the blogs too as they have so many more wonderful posts to offer.

From This Day Forward I enjoyed this post as it is something that resonated with me. I am certainly guilty of this and need to take the advice given!

Steve Says If you want a laugh, then you must head on over to Steve’s blog. This festive fun had me laughing my head off! I know it is wrong of me to laugh, but I am secure in the knowledge that some of my stuff could probably end up somewhere like this in years to come!

John D Eccles In light of recent terrible events, this post was particularly poignant. Such a small thing to do,  that could change so much.

Waar mijn pen ligt, ben ik thuis This was absolutely beautiful. so simple yet touched me so much.

So there you have a few tasty morsels to keep you satisfied over the weekend. Enjoy.

Happy Friday!

Episode 51: Ode to NaBloPoMo — November 26, 2015

Episode 51: Ode to NaBloPoMo

I know I wrote this last year, but I thought I would give it another airing for those of you who are currently participating in NaBloPoMo!

Judy E Martin's avatarEdwina's Episodes

I set myself a challenge

To write a post a day

For the whole month of November

Well, I have a lot to say!

I started pretty strongly

My brain was in top form

The words were flowing freely

Was this going to be the norm?

I followed other bloggers

And commented on their work

So many talented people

Makes me feel like a jerk!

For I am still a novice

And have such a long way to go

My creative juices are ebbing

And it’s still NaBloPoMo!

I’ve looked for inspiration

But it hasn’t come my way

So now I’m going to struggle

To write a post a day!

I’m not going to fail this

I can’t, I’ve just begun

But these words of desperation

Means that today’s post has been done!

We are normal, everyday hard-working people with a common hobby, blogging. We hail from far and wide. We reside in different lands, on different continents. We speak different languages, eat different foods, and are of varying ages, professions, and religious and cultural backgrounds.

We do have one thing in common…

We believe that terrorist attacks, wherever they may be perpetrated; whether in France, Tunisia, Canada, Iraq, or in Denmark, Turkey, UK, Algeria, Yemen, USA, Lebanon, or in the skies over Egypt, or in India, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Kuwait, Libya, Bangladesh, Syria, or…

Wacky Word Wednesday. —

Wacky Word Wednesday.

Welcome to another wild, wacky and wonderful Wednesday, where I get to play around with words that are underused and under-appreciated (in my opinion), and give them a turn in the spotlight. This week I have been given a suggestion by the wonderful Geoff from Tangental. He is certainly a master of words if ever I met one,  and is the author of two books which you can check out on his website. So the words for this week is…

Pukka. Now this word is proper, the real deal, bang on the money type of a word. it is genuine and sincere, bona fide, spot on. A certain young Naked Chef made this saying popular some time ago and for such a simple word, it manages to say a lot.

It can be authentic and original, top-notch and tip-top. smart and special. An all round good-egg, or someone who has been a brick!

It could actually apply to good old Geoff himself!!!
