We have some wonderful prompt words this week for Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Challenge ‘life’ and ‘give’
Here is what I made of it:

As many of you know, I have recently started a new job and am still finding my way around, both figuratively and literally. Although I have lived in this town off and on since I was thirteen years old, there are so many new areas that have sprung up and many rural areas right out in the sticks that I had never heard of.
I am zooming about in my little gold car now (sadly my lovely yellow one is gone as I thought it might not be suitable for some of the areas due to it being lowered and other stuff that Boy Racers do to their cars to make them noisy and faster), getting myself lost in all sorts of beautiful places.
On a couple of occasions, I have been right out in the middle of nowhere and thought I might get a photo of the beautiful North Downs countryside, but Sod’s Law dictates that someone will pull up behind me the minute I am focusing on the shot, and I have to move out of the way!
With technology being at the forefront of providing a good and efficient service, I have a tablet which will make easier once I have been on the mandatory training course.Anyway, there was update training that everyone had to try and go to midway through the week, at a nearby venue. It has been a busy day and I wasn’t sure I was going to make it, especially as I still had one patient to see over the other side of town.
Now, being as I am I hate being late for anything as I find it is rude for those waiting on you, and it puts me out. However, patients do not fit into nice little time slots and the first few that I visited had extra problems or concerns that I had to deal with. Thre are a few patients that it makes sense to visit at specific times, and this last patient I had to see across town was normally seen at 12.30. It was now nearly 2.pm (which is when this training started as well)!
I turned up, tired, desperate for the loo and starving, having not eaten my lunch only to find y patient was sitting at the table tucking into his KFC! He did not want to be disturbed and was due to have another visit the next day so was happy to leave it.
The smell of the chicken made my stomach growl even louder, but I had no time to satisfy it, having to rush to get to the training which had now been going for about 15 minutes. Needless to say, when I arrived, everything was in full swing. The small room was packed, but I noticed a spare chair outside which I was going to plonk just inside the door. The senior management that were sat there motioned for me to move the chair to the front of the room. I picked it up but being the klutz that I am tripped over it just as I was sidling up to the front, and the chair smacked to the wooden floor with a resounding bang, which of course woke everyone up and they turned to look at my glowing red face as I tried to sit there unobtrusively.
The room was stifling hot, I did not have much of a clue about what was going on, and the fact that I was desperate for the loo had me fidgeting constantly throughout the rest of the session, with my stomach rumbling in protest at being deprived of food. My face meanwhile, became redder and redder.
As soon as it was over, I rushed to the loo then as I returned to the foyer, was hugged by two nurses that had worked on the same ward as me at the hospital but had left to work in the community. Sadly, there are in a different team covering another area to me, but it was so nice to see them.
One of them told me she had seen me make an entrance to the room, and knew it had to be me barging in making a such a racket. I laughed as she said it, then saw someone who I recognised walk past. I prodded him and said hello. He politely returned the greeting, but it was obvious he didn’t have a clue who I was. I told my friends he was my sister’s friend (she has known him for years, and I have met him several times) but they already knew him as he worked with them. Awkward!
Must be the glasses that confused him, as I hate wearing them out of work!
TJ has given us ‘light’ to work with this week for his household haiku challenge. This is my take on it

Sally’s wonderful ‘Tales From The Garden’ stories are gathered together in her wonderful new book. I loved these stories and thrilled that I can read them whenever I like now I have got the book. If you have not already read them, you are missing out, They are enchanting. 🙂

Now that I have mostly written the bulk of my story for NaNoWriMo, I thought I would give you a small snippet so you get the feel of what it is about. It is not in my usual style, as you will see.
I am thrilled to show off my book cover too that was designed by the lovely Jo Robinson that fits perfectly.

Craaaaack! Jackie reeled sideways as the force of the blow struck the side of her face. “You fucking bitch, you slept with him didn’t you?”
“Aslan, stop it, for God’s sake! Of course I didn’t sleep with him. I don’t even know him. He is a friend of Kat’s and came to see her, not me. Please, you know I would never do anything like that.
Aslan’s hands gripped the steering wheel tighter, and he turned his face, contorted with rage, to Jackie once more, disgust evident as he spat out, “you are nothing; just a slag, a whore, and I would be better off without you.”
The car jerked as he swung it onto the hard shoulder, and then slammed on the brakes. “Go on, fuck off. Get out of the car!”
“What? What are you talking about? Why do you want me to get out? It is pitch black, and we’re in the middle of nowhere!”
“I said, get the fuck out of my car you useless piece of shit.” I don’t want you anymore. See if your boyfriend can help you now!
Petrified, Jackie opened the door. Maybe he was just testing her, as he had done so many times in an effort to control her. The forceful shove sending her stumbling out the door told her that this time it was real. He was actually throwing her out of the car, nearly two hours away from home, on a motorway, in the dark, by herself. How the hell did she ever get to this point?
Little did Jackie know, there was more heartache, hurt and humiliation to come….
I can’t believe I did it, but I won the NaNoWriMo Challenge! Last night I completed just over 50 000 words of the Novelette that I had wanted to write.
I decided to set myself the challenge after being inspired by so many of my blogging friends. I have never written anything other than poems really, but there was a story that I wanted to tell, and have done for some time. I have been quietly picking up hints and tips from the established authors we have among us here on WordPress.
The one piece of advice that I had from a few different people was just to write, get it all down and the editing process can come later, so that is what I did. Every night I set aside two hours after work where I would write, and at weekends, I would do as much as I could at any opportunity I got. It paid off because I have got there a little earlier than expected!
So I have got the bare bones of my story, a little jumbled up perhaps; character names have changed over the course of it, but that is down to me getting carried away and not checking my notebook properly I have got a hell of a lot of work to do if I do want to try and make something of it, but that is for later on.
I thought this challenge was particularly relevant to me now as it is coming up to my 50th birthday (Sssh, yes I know I don’t look a day over 65), and it is something that I can be proud of achieving before reaching that terrifying (to me) milestone!
Anyway, I did it and I beyond thrilled! Now that is enough of the trumpet blowing, I shall be back in the land of blog soon. It is funny how much I missed you all despite managing to get a couple of posts in. Thanks again, for all of your encouragement and support. it really helped to spur me on!
I do love Wednesdays when I can highlight a little-used work, give it a shake off and dust up ready for its chance to shine. The word I have chosen this week is a wonderful little word that is one of my mum’s favourites.
Twee. This is a fussy little word, all prim and proper, present and correct, quietly quaint, in its affected overly ‘nice’ manner. Gracious to a fault yet prudish, minding its p’s and q’s in its banality.
The net curtain twitcher, peeping out of the windows of a dainty, chi-chi house which is fastidiously neat and tidy. It is pretentious, la-di-da, very lady of the manor.
It is one word that I certainly cannot be accused of being!
Thanks Ron for saying what we are all thinking in such a beautiful haiku. Nous sommes Paris.
