Episode 438: 16 Albums That Changed My Life. — July 31, 2015

Episode 438: 16 Albums That Changed My Life.

The wonderful and extremely lovely Ritu has challenged me to a new challenge.

The rules: Don’t take too long to think about it. Sixteen albums you’ve heard that changed the way you thought about music…if you are too young to have owned albums you can surely chose songs.  List the first sixteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes. Tag two friends, or more if you have the time, and then tag me because I’m interested in seeing what albums my friends choose.

The Osmonds – The Plan

The Chi-Lites – Give More Power to the People

Meatloaf – Bat Out of Hell

Status Quo – 12 Gold Bars

The Beatles – Love Songs

Barclay James Harvest – Gone to Earth

Human League – Dare

Bruce Springsteen – Born In The USA

ELO – Out of the Blue

ELO – Time

Michael Jackson – Thriller

Madonna – True Blue

Jeff Wayne – War of the Worlds

Roxy Music – Flesh & Blood

Tamla Motown – The Last Dance (Compilation)

Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Well I could have gone on a bit more with that list. How lovely to remember some of those albums, I am sure you are not surprised by some of my cheesy choices!

Anyway, my nominees:

Wild Daffodil

Aimer Boyz

Tan Gentle

Please don’t feel obligated but I’d love to know your choices.

Episode 437. Free-For-All Friday #22

Friday is here again and I have got some great blogs for you this week. I have not had that much time, but these posts have really caught my eye for various reasons. They are all different but of course have plenty to offer. That is why it is worth visiting as there is so much more to see on their blogs.

Skinny and Single This tongue-in-cheek post made me laugh, probably because I can really relate to it!

Daily Echo Sue is brilliant at these types of poems. and this one set to music is absolutely hilarious! Please also check out her other post here and share if you can.

LindaGHill I am really pleased that Linda is back blogging again after a break, and this post is typical of how the simplest of  things can turn into a disaster!

Hummingbird Redemption This post just goes to show how talented Raphaela has always been.

The V-Pub Now this post had me rolling about laughing (I do have a tendency to laugh at inappropriate moments). It is a Tidbit Tuesday post so is a little ….personal!

Hope you enjoy these as much as I did,

Happy Friday all! 🙂

Episode 436: #Throwback Thursday, You’re In The Army Now! — July 30, 2015

Episode 436: #Throwback Thursday, You’re In The Army Now!

I was visiting my mum a couple of days ago when my brother had brought over a load of stuff that was still over at the house she used to live in. Amongst all of the nick-knacks, books and other bits were some old photos.

They were taken back in 1984 when I joined the Army just after my 18th birthday. Most of them were of my passing out parade.

20150730_144606-1_wm

How the hell I ever learned to march in time is beyond me as my co-ordination is pretty rubbish. Mind you I had my fair share of tellings of by the NCOs and found myself doing extra duties when I cocked up, or turning up to ‘show parade’ when I had ‘failed to turn my iron on’ (in other words I had a miniscule crease across the back of my skirt, which the sergeant had noticed)!

Still, I made it. I got through the basic training, I managed to pass the fitness test (which I hated) and I could invite 2 people to my passing out parade. Now was you may know, I come from a large family; Mum and Dad had divorced and re-married, and I have 5 siblings. As you can see from the pic, both parents and spouses came, 2 or my 3 brother and my older sister and her daughter, How they all got in I don’t know especially as my eldest brother was on crutches after breaking something!

Still it was a magical moment for me when I marched past and saw them all there, as I didn’t know they were all coming.

My son, the triathlete… — July 29, 2015

My son, the triathlete…

This is the kind of story that shows just how miraculous life can be. Nick is a real inspiration, and with his and Sue’s determination, they have battled against the odds.

Sue Vincent's avatarSue Vincent's Daily Echo

nick-trike-park-birds-flowers-trees-009

You may know my son’s story. For once, I have no problem repeating it for those who do not. I have a very good reason for it that I have been bursting to share!

In 2009 my son was 25… a good looking, successful young man with a fast car, nice apartment near the coast and a very promising career. That ended on July 4th when he was left for dead in a Bournemouth alley, stabbed through the brain in an unprovoked attack.

I have written before of the terror of the next days as he underwent brain surgery to remove the shards of shattered bone from the left hemisphere of his brain. I have told of the weeks of heartache as we waited to see if he would live or die, while his brain bled and swelled, causing further damage to the brain stem itself and shared both the…

Episode 434: Wacky Word Wednesday #12

Oh I do love a Wednesday, especially when I have dug up another gem of a word to share with you, and play about with. Today’s is particularly funny as I was unaware of its origin, and on finding out what it could be, added to my delight. So let me re-acquaint you with…..

Codswallop. Yes, it is a wonderful word that is not given enough chance to shine. Now those origins,  ‘cods’ are apparently testicles and ‘wallop’ of course is to smack or hit. Presumably in days gone by if someone was caught telling lies they would get a swift smack in the goolies to discourage them from doing it again!

As you have probably guessed if you did not know already, that this word is a load of cobblers, total piffle, not to mention poppycock! It is balderdash, and bullshit,  hogwash and horseshit, and just plain old shit, shit!

People who talk mumbo-jumbo, fiddle-faddle and a load of bollocks! They blather and babble about stuff and nonsense, and utter tripe.

Actually, I am not surprised this word originated from a clout to the nethers!

Episode 431: Addicted to Blogging! — July 26, 2015

Episode 431: Addicted to Blogging!

This weekend I’ve been very busy

Helping out on a great magazine

Writing a few wacky stories

Plus a few odds & sods in-between

So my blog has been rather neglected

I have not posted as much as I might

I am still catching up with some reading

Before I even decide what to write!

I love the great interaction

That I get from my blog family

Seeing what everyone’s up to

And sharing what is happening with me.

So it back to some blogging this evening

As I can’t bear to miss just one day

I know it sounds like addiction

But it’s better than cigs, anyway!

Chapter 1…THE BEACH
It was a warm sunny day and sea was an almost transparent shade of blue.
I lay there, watching the waves lap on the shore, a drink in hand, a tear rolling down my cheek.
I stand up yelling at that boy who threw this load of sand into my eyes and my drink when he jumped over me.
I then grabbed my water gun, running fast after him, I was laughing, he was jumping over people to escape. He turned to look at me, but didn’t see the two children in front of him carrying two delicious looking ice cream cones.
As he barreled into the children, knocking the ice-cream from their grasp, I caught one of the scoops of pistachio and hurled it at his head as I fell laughing to the ground!
And what luck, his mouth was open and he gulped down the scoop, spitting nuts rapid-fire style like a rabid squirrel! And wouldn’t you know it, a squirrel leaped from a nearby tree, performing a flying maneuver worthy of the best traveling circus family, catching the nuts in his mouth in mid-air!!
It was all too fantastical and I wondered for a moment if I’d forgotten to take my medication earlier…or perhaps I took too much!
I opened my eyes with a jolt, peeled my face from the sticky plastic beach lounger, and rubbed my eyes-sun and too many mojitos make for ridiculous dreams!
Unaware to her, the man behind the one way mirror furiously scribbled down notes and couldn’t help but marvel at how his creation truly believed IT was a real human being and he hadn’t even begun stage 2984DU which everyone with his intellect knows is when the real fun starts!
Professor James Loxet knew he had just one more test to carry out before the implant of the 2984DU chip, Just one more social situation, the dinner party. The thought of going to this party, surrounded by so many people, just made James cringe to his core, he hated crowds of people! Yet, at the nagging of his close friends, James, picked himself up from the beach and headed home to change for the party. Despite his nagging headache and the gnaw of anxiety in his gut, James found a sort of peace in the ritual of dressing.
The party was a very formal affair, so James decided to put on his best black tuxedo. He stood before a mirror, fidgeting at the tight-fit of his white shirt and tie, trying to feel comfortable.
The minute he walked through the rotating doors, he was greeted by Brenda, a horrid woman with a snaggletooth and unibrow who spoke through her nose and mocked his work, calling him Mr. Latex.
The back of his psyche buzzing, “Mr Latex will read your entrails!” hisses toward her.
His thought was interrupted as his eyes landed on Robin, mesmerizing in strapless long black dress with hair tied high on her head, flashing her glowing skin. Mrs. Robin, he clenched his teeth as he reminded himself of her new status.Just as he was imagining how different his life could have been if he had married her, Robin felt his eyes trailing the length of her body and gave him a cold, hard look before turning her back to him.
James would not let her go so easily, no matter her status; he rushed behind her, pressed himself against her back as one hand gripped her wrist and the other pressed firmly on her stomach. The pain of a stiletto heel shot through him, and as he released his grip on her, Robin spun round, and James doubled over in agony as her knee made contact with his balls.

I am going to nominate

Episode 427: Summertime At The Beach! —

Episode 427: Summertime At The Beach!

It is my day off today, and as the weather has been so hot and sunny, we decided last night that we would go to the seaside today. Miss Hap has broken up for the school holidays and Mr Grump has this week off. As my world revolves around food I decided that we would take a picnic, and I even made my picnic pie to munch on. After all lazing on the beach with the odd bit of swimming thrown in is hungry work!

20150722_064543_wm

This morning we all got up and ready quite early. The weather forecast promised to be good so we set off to the seaside! The sun was shining and in just over 20 mins, we had arrived to the beach we used to go to a lot when we were kids. We pulled into the car park but it was shut! It seemed there was one a little further down the road instead.

We parked up after spending some considerable time on the phone trying to pay for the parking (stupidly we didn’t have the right change). We got that sorted and then decided to go on to the sands. We left our towels and picnic in the boot whilst we checked out whether the tide was in or not.

One we got it we noticed it was decidedly chilly, and a few ominous grey clouds had appeared. Luckily we had bought jumpers etc, and on a positive note had the beach to ourselves.

I even went in for a little paddle (it was bloody FREEZING)!

20150722_095027-1_wm

Unfortunately though, the little huts where you could buy hot drinks, ice creams and even beach goods were all closed so we moved down the coast a little to Dymchurch where Mr Grump and I warmed up with a latte and Miss Hap a hot chocolate!

20150722_102708-1_wm

At least we got a hot drink there (oh and had another car parking phone call)!

20150722_110753-1_wm

It was nice to see the English, Scottish and Welsh flags flying over the small amusement park (which was closed when we for there)! Even the poor donkeys had nothing to do.

20150722_111019-1_wm

It felt as if we were in the Twilight Zone or something; after all, it is the middle of July which is supposed to be summer, and hardly anything was open!

Oh, we ate the picnic in the car!
