Episode 426: Wacky Word Wednesday #11

Hooray, ย it is Wednesday which means it must be time to unearth an underused word, dust it off, and give it an outing. Today’s word is wonderful,in its own right but also because it has so many wonderful synonyms too.

Unctuous. Oooh what a slimy, slippery word this is, bowing and scraping sycophantically. ย It creeps and crawls, grovelling in its greasiness culminating in a cringe worthy display of ass kissing, bum sucking, gushing at its absolute worst!

It is insipidly insincere; this flattery and fawning is too subservient and self-serving, not to mention nauseating and naff!

Episode 425: A Little Extra Tuesday Tidbit — July 21, 2015

Episode 425: A Little Extra Tuesday Tidbit

I wanted to share this little conversation I had with one of my patients today which I thought you would enjoy as much as I did!

I was doing my routine checks of catheters and cannulas in the afternoon, and I went over to one of my ladies (I’ll call her Betty) as I knew she had a catheter but was not sure about the cannula.

Now this lady is 100 years old and still as sharp as a tack. Most of our patients are not sure what a cannula is, so I said to her,

“Betty, do you have any needles in your arms?”

She came straight back,as quick as a flash with,

“No, but I have had my fair share of pricks in my time!!!”

Priceless. ๐Ÿ™‚

Episode 424: Tuesday Tidbit. Mini Thrills! 18+

Now for today’s Tidbit I thought I would share with you a story that was recently in the news.

A young man ย whoย had been out of work for ages, finally got himself a job as a delivery driver of a fish van. However, whilst he was parked up, a Mini suddenly come hurtling into the back of the van causing some damage.

A young woman got out of the car, and they exchanged insurance details. The poor young man went back to base thinking he was going to lose this job before he had really got started.

However, his boss looked over the footage that was taken from the back of the van, and it seemed that it was not his fault at all. The young lady had been seen removing her ‘Rampant Rabbit’ from inside her trousers before fastening them and getting out of the car.

She must have been some sort of contortionist to manage inserting the device, using the steering wheel ,and changing gears! It seemed like in the throes of passion with her ‘little friend’ she rammed her foot on the gas pedal and smashed into the fish van!

You couldn’t make it up!

Episode 423: Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge #54

The words this week for Ronovan’s Weekly Haiku Challenge are ‘think’ and ‘free.’ I thought I would use a pic of myself, older sister and niece dressed up in 70s gear for my sister’s 50th Birthday a few years ago.

Episode 422: Allergic To The Letter ‘E’ Challenge: 2nd Go! — July 19, 2015

Episode 422: Allergic To The Letter ‘E’ Challenge: 2nd Go!

I have been nominated by the wonderful Erika to take part in this challenge. If you have not yet been over to her blog, you are really missing out as she has so much to share. Everything from inspirational quotes to uplifting songs and a bit of sexiness as well!

The rules:

  1. Write a whole paragraph (a paragraph sounds easy right?)
  2. Without any word containing the letter โ€œeโ€ (still easy for ya?)
  3. By reading this you are already signed up.
  4. Challenge at least five bloggers to do the challenge.

Oh this is fun! I must summon up a paragraph which is going to hurt, I think! My poor brain cannot stand the strain of it. I might just rabbit on and on about nothing (as normal) and it may just amount to the paragraph I must muster up! Oh God, what a rubbish post this is, sorry!ย

Well, that was tricky! I think I will nominate the following people to have a go!

Wild Daffodil

Nutsrock

The Indecisive Eejit

Dublin Housewife

Breathing Life

Have fun!

Episode 421: Heartfelt Thanks.

Yesterday, was a massive milestone for me in that I reached just over 700 followers! I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be part of this wonderful blogging community we have here.

So thank you to those that come to visit, whether it be daily, or whenever you feel like it! Thank you for welcoming me into your own worlds and indulging me; especially ย when I am having a rant, or a moan, or inflicting my rubbish attempts at getting to grips with technology on you! Thanks for all of your wonderful blogs that have had such an impact on me, making me laugh, cry, sing along, or made me think about things in a whole different way; thanks also to those of you that have given me advice on technical stuff where I had no clue!

Episode 420: If At First You Don’t Succeed……. — July 18, 2015

Episode 420: If At First You Don’t Succeed…….

In my last post I mentioned how I was having trouble with getting to grips with my new phone. I am nothing if not determined, and when Mr Grump asked me if I wanted to go for a walk this afternoon, I thought it might be an idea to take my phone and get some pics! (For the other stuff, I am going to Google how to use it)!

Some of my pics of bumble bees on thistles are a little bit rubbish still as I couldn’t see what I was doing as the sun was so bright (ahem, I know a bad workman always blames his tools)but I was quite pleased with the others and have decided to share them with you (whether you like it or not)!!

The area we walked is not too far away from home; these fields are just on the edge of a built up area which houses some office blocks. There is a little river tucked away just behind that as well. On the way back there was a huge field of corn with just a couple of poppies that had sprung up on the outside of ย it that looked very pretty.

Episode 419: Photo Fail! —

Episode 419: Photo Fail!

As some of you may know, I am not exactly the most proficient person when it comes to technology. I tend to get by just sticking to the basics,or perhaps asking for a little help when there is something I really need to do understand how to do.

Anyway, myself and Mr Grump were due an upgrade and after a lot of thought (which one comes in the prettiest colours, and has a good camera, as I want to try toย learn to take a decent photo as I am rubbish at that as well) I ended up with a really lovely gold coloured phone that can do quite a lot of stuff.

I decided that I would try toย use some of these wonderful features as they will go to waste. Well, I was pleased to see I have a pedometer on this health app, so I gave that a go and was delighted that on days that I work. I of course do more than he recommended 6000 steps by double and I surpass my daily activity minutes as well.

So far, so big-headed! (I would be a lot more pleased though if the bloody weight would come off with all this ‘exercise’. Next up I wanted to play with the command thing, where you ask it to do something and it does. Ooooh this is fun, I asked it to text Mr Grump it did! He laughed his head off when I politely asked it to set my work alarm for 5:15amย please!ย Well, most of you will know my take on having good manners!

Having said that I wanted to wring its bloody neck this morning, on my day off, the stupid alarm went off singing away at 5:15. So here I am at 7am on this beautiful Saturday morning, having already been up for a couple of hours (once I am awake that is it, I have to get up).

I didn’t have a lot of success with the camera either. I mentioned that I went to the awards ceremony at Miss Hap’s School on Monday. Well me being me, as I went on my own, I got there too early as I stressed myself about parking. The advantage though was that I got to sit in the 3rd row from the from just behind the teachers. Miss Hap was the very first child up to get her award, and I was there, camera poised.

As her name was called she walked on stage and stood there for a bit, once the subjects that she had got the award in were read out she walked across the stage, shook hands with the chap who was there from the charity the school was supporting this year, and then walked off again. I spent so long trying to zoom in and focus I missed the bloody handshake moment but did at least manage to get a photo of her! Yes, I only managed to get 2 in total due to my faffing about!

There needs to be some sort of course set up for the technodunce!

Episode 418: The Delights of Decorating! — July 16, 2015

Episode 418: The Delights of Decorating!

Tomorrow Miss Hap breaks up for the summer holidays until early September! This is always a nightmare as far as childcare is concerned as myself and Mr Grump usually take a couple of alternate weeks off each, and for the others I work a couple of nights and a day over the weekend. We are lucky that we can do this, and Mr Grump has got the first week off next week.

Miss Hap has decided that she wants to totally redecorate her room as she has grown tired of it! We only did it a couple of years ago in the orange and lime green that she wanted. (It sounds a bit loud but I really like it actually, although I was a bit reluctant at first)! As her room was the last one to be done it was not next on my list at all, but as she had worked so hard at school lately despite a very rocky start, and won an award on Monday for German and Music I am considering it.ย I also have an ulterior motive in that her room is a mess, and I told her if she cleaned it out spotlessly I might think about it.

Now she has already been giving her orders about colour schemes and what she wants to do. In fact, bless her, she cut a load of letters out to stick on her wall already as you can see in the pic. Now I hateย decorating (well the mess that goes with it), and get very stressed with furniture all over the place and other stuff strewn about, so I have decided that this part of the deal will go to Mr Grump!

He likes painting and decorating, and if he doesn’t get it done next week (along with some other chores I have given him to do), then he is off ย the first week in August and can do it then. It’s a shame really, because I have got to work and he will have to do it all by himself (no doubt a lot of direction from Miss Hap too)!!

VOTING NOW OPEN – Annual Bloggers Bash Awards

I’ve voted. Make sure you get your vote in too,

Who-will-you-vote-for-

You nominated in your hundreds โ€“ literally! I had to enlist a committee of fabulous bloggers (Ali, Geoff and Hugh) to help organise all the nominations and sortย them into this, the official voting post. To find out more about the #BloggersBash event have a look at this, this or this.

11733474_10207031963138573_162371955_nBefore we begin voting, thereโ€™s one more thing to add. The lovely Geoff decided we needed to stand out from the crowd so that yโ€™all can find us at the British Library on the 1st August. So he has ordered some Annual Bloggers Bash t-shirts. The committee will be wearing them, but it was cheaper to bulk buy, so inevitably we have spares. SO, if you win one of the awards then a t shirt is yours! But if you would like a t-shirt anyway then they will be ยฃ6 on the day. Geoff isโ€ฆ
