Free-For-All Friday #13

Welcome to my Free-for-all Friday number 13. I have got another wonderful collection of blogs for your enjoyment,  so there is no unlucky 13, as everyone’s a winner! Please go and visit these wonderful blogs are they are well worth it. I’ve even got a bit of raunchiness for your delectation this week!

Joeyfully Stated I love Joey’s blog as she is a very straight-talking woman, who has a great sense of humour too. This post I could relate to perfectly as our family do exactly the same. It is a great fun post.

My Spanglish Familia This is another great blog written by a lovely lady who describes what life is like living with Bipolar. She is frank, and honest but also manages to laugh at herself, and some of the situations she finds herself in.

Nicholas C Rossis I don’t want to give too much away about this post other than to say you really must read it – or at least try to, I failed to get to the end!

Author Erika Kind This has Adult Content and is a little raunchy. Erika has a very rich and varied blog, but I just had to include this post as I loved it.

Sahar’s Blog This is a thought-provoking post which is pretty topical at the moment. I think Sahar has made some valid points here.

Fabuliciousfifty I have only just started following this blog which was recommended by another blogger, and I found this post to be really helpful to me for various reasons.

So there you have a bevy of blogs to keep you occupied and entertained, not to mention enlightened for a while. I am sure you will enjoy them as much as I did.

Check It Out! Guest Post by Linda Bethea. — June 4, 2015

Check It Out! Guest Post by Linda Bethea.

The very lovely and talented Linda from Nutsrock and I have decided to take over each other’s blogs, and write a guest post each. Now if for some reason you have never visited Linda’s blog then you are well and truly missing out. Her gift for storytelling is unique and has me laughing my head off at times, and being very moved at others, She has a horde of crazy family members that make appearances in her posts for your delight and entertainment.

Linda and I both share a nursing background and we have written stories about a ‘normal day at the office’ for your amusement. So without further ado, here is Linda’s tale.

A big part of nursing is taking care of the “whole” patient, so when my patient asked if I had some clothes I could give her, the first thing I did was ask, ”Why?”

“My house burned and I don’t even have anything to wear home. I lost everything.  ”

“Oh, that’s awful.  Of course, I’ll bring you some things.  I’ll call the social worker so she can help you out, too.”

I went through my closet after work and found several pairs of pants, shirts and a couple of dresses, enough to get her started.  I bought a six-pack of granny-panties, some sports bras, socks, and shoes, since I had checked her sizes and took them to her the next day.  She was so relieved to have some clothes for when she went home.

Meanwhile, the social worker had collected several items of her own called the Red Cross.  That’s when things went weird.  The Red Cross contacted the outpatient dialysis center who knew the patient well, only to find out that this had happened before.  The lady appeared perfectly oriented, but under stress, became confused, recalling a disturbing time in the past when she’d lost everything in a house fire.  By the time it was all said and done, between me and the social worker, she made quite a haul!

Episode 357: Wacky Word Wednesday #5

Hooray for Wednesday when I get to fool about with another word that has caught my fancy. This time it is a wonderful word, being French in origin and sounding far nicer than the meaning of it is! May I present to you…..

Maladroit. Oh this poor word blunders and bumbles through life, blissfully buggering up everything it touches! It is ham-fisted and heavy-handed, stumbling and lumbering, tripping over anything in its path.

Being ungainly and uncoordinated, it is graceless and gawky, with its butterfingers and two left feet; a piteous sight to behold. A clumsy klutz who is both inept and incompetent….sounds a lot like me on the dancefloor!!

Episode 356: Dirty Mind! — June 2, 2015

Episode 356: Dirty Mind!

Today at work I was looking after the men, which is something that I don’t do very often as I am usually with the ladies. One of the patients was being discharged, and once the bed area had been cleaned and the bed remade, another patient arrived with two porters wheeling his bed.

We had to transfer the new patient onto the other bed, which needed a couple of extra staff and a patslide. Just before we did this I introduced myself to the patient and confirmed his name. I asked him how he was and he told me that one of his legs and one of his arms were not working properly. I sympathised with him and told him that we would make sure he was well looked after.

In order to get him onto the other bed we had to line them both up but there was a chair in the way. One of the porters went to move it but bumped it on the corner of the bed. It didn’t touch the patient but I joked with him that we were going to hurt his good leg to even things up a little.

He laughed and said that I might as well, then indicated his head towards his nether regions and said that ‘that didn’t work either’. I of course thought he meant his ahem..privates and blustered that we couldn’t really do much about that side of things. He didn’t. He was pointing at his catheter bag!

Episode 353: The Power of Technology! —

Episode 353: The Power of Technology!

Thus morning I actually had a lie-in and didn’t get up until 9am which is unheard of for me! Nobody else was awake as we had a bit of a late night and after the other morning I decided to just let everyone else sleep in, especially as it is Mr Grump’s birthday today (yes he is another year grumpier)!

Anyway, I went into the bathroom, and the light didn’t come on, so I thought the bulb had gone, However, on going downstairs, I realised that we had a power cut and nothing was working! Oh, this is novel, I remember as a little girl we used to have quite a few power cuts and Mum always had some candles and a torch handy so at least we could see!

Seeing as it was well into the morning I didn’t need any of those, but I did want a cup of tea. Luckily we have a gas cooker so I just boiled up some water, no problem. I usually go on my laptop early on but with no internet or electricity I had to give that a miss. Hmmmm, what to do?! How did we amuse ourselves before technology took over the world with its hypnotic powers, drawing us in and keeping us occupied?

I went on my mobile and looked at my notifications from Word Press. I had a few comments so decided to reply to them, only to realise that I can’t send it as I have no internet. Now what? I know, I’ll play Candy Crush on my tablet, I am doing quite well with that. I started playing but then realised I had to connect in order to progress, but I had no bloody internet, damn it!

I am not very used to silence either, I always put the TV on first thing to watch the news for a while whilst I catch with reading some blogs, but of course that was out, so I read for a while. I do read a lot but never in the daytime, preferring to relax just before I go to sleep by reading a good book. I did enjoy the 20 minutes or so before the power suddenly burst back into life, but felt really tired!

The others finally got up soon after and although Mr Grump does not like to make any fuss about his birthday, we gave him his presents and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him which I think he enjoyed. Miss Hap is at a friend’s tonight for a sleepover so we are going to have a nice quiet night in together.

As it is his birthday I bought him the latest ‘Lord of the Rings’ DVD in 3D which he is watching now, and I haven’t even moaned about it once! I hate those bloody films and just cannot get into them at all. He is sitting there though, as happy as Larry, Roxy not far away from him as usual. What a shame it would be if there was a power cut now!

Episode 352: Cute Cousins! — May 30, 2015

Episode 352: Cute Cousins!

Miss Hap is very close to some of her cousins and in this photo she is with my youngest sister’s daughter.

It’s quite funny really, because when she was very young, my niece was always mistaken for my child, to the point where people often commented how much she was the spitting image of me. I never really minded though as I saw it as a compliment, although she has a very different personality to me,being much more outgoing and friendly!

Miss Hap and I look nothing alike, even though when she was younger I would sometimes dress her in a kind of junior version of what I was wearing (poor child)! She has though inherited the ‘clumsy’ gene, tripping over her own feet, and knocking stuff over. Of course, when this happens with family around, she then gets told that she is ‘just like her mother,’ which is very unfortunate for her.

The pair of them, despite being so different in looks, are very similar in personality. They can both be pretty feisty, but are very affectionate and loving as well when they want to be. Despite the 16 year age gap between them, they get on really well together, and although Miss Hap started out grumpy when this photo was taken, her cousin soon got her into a good mood!

Episode 351: Wakey, Wakey! — May 29, 2015

Episode 351: Wakey, Wakey!

Now I am quite an early bird, and get up at 05:15 when I am working,  so it is almost inevitable that my body clock wakes me up early even on a day off. I am at my best in the morning anyway, and can quite happily get on and do things until everyone else gets up and our day begins.

Mr Grump usually gets up earlyish as well, but he had been out last night and had a few beers with some of my family, so was a little ‘tired’ this morning! Miss Hap, being on school holidays is also loathe to get up too early as well at the moment.

My sister had phoned at 8am so I had a nice chat with her for a while, but by the time it got to 9am I decided it was about time Mr Grump got up as I had chores for him to do! Anyway I went in the bedroom and he was sound asleep with Roxy snoring at the bottom of the bed (not even she had bothered to get up)!

I got in bed, he didn’t move. I pinched his arm, he muttered and turned over. Roxy had seen him moving and decided that she was well overdue for her walk. She went to the top of the bed and licked Mr Grump’s bald head! Her tail was swishing against the wooden headboard and making a bit of a clonking noise which was obviously irritating Mr Grump as he told her to get down, which she did!

I was annoyed that he didn’t get up,  so I went in to see Miss Hap who was half awake. I had a little cuddle with her but she was tired and heavy-eyed so I went off downstairs to make a cup of tea (noisily)!

About 10 o’clock Mr Grump finally clomped downstairs and got himself ready to take Roxy out for her walk. I was cooking myself a boiled egg for breakfast but decided that Mr Grump would probably have breakfast when he came back, and I told him I would wait and have breakfast together.

I didn’t! I had been up for ages and my egg and pitta bread were ready so, in the end,  I decided to cook a bit of bacon to put in with it. I was just finishing it off when Mr Grump and Roxy came back from their walk. I picked the last slice of bacon up with the tongs and I don’t know what happened but it ended up straight on the floor to Roxy’s delight!

I was fuming and stomped off to eat what I had left! Of course, it was all Mr Grump’s fault for getting up late, and me having to cook my own breakfast!! It put me out for the rest of the day!
