Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘N’ — April 16, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘N’

I am over the hump and on the downward stretch of the Blogging From A-Z Challenge and find myself at the naughty but nice letter ‘N.’ The fact that it is so similar in looks to the letter ‘M’ might make it seem pretty nondescript, but I have found a very special and fun word to play with……stand by for……

Nincompoop. This word really is onomatopoeic. It is silly in its buffoonery, daft as a door brush, and a bit of a dunce! It blunders and barges, totters and trips about, making a fool of itself wherever it goes.

Fools and f**kwits, prats and pillocks, as well as dolts and dickheads are what this word is all about! It is having no common sense (or any sense at all really), being oblivious to the bloody obvious, and ignoring what is right in front of you kind of word.

Again, I find as I am writing this, some of it applies to me!

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘M’ — April 15, 2015

Blogging From A-Z Challenge: ‘M’

Well I have made it halfway through the Blogging From A-Z Challenge, and here we are at the letter ‘M.’ This a magnificent, marvellous letter, resplendent in all its majesty! The word that I have chosen for today is one that is very little used nowadays (more’s the pity), but makes me laugh when I hear it.

Mealymouthed.  This word is a kind of insincere slobbering all over someone type of behaviour. It is the sycophantic, snivelling, slavish agreeing with everything you say, (despite not believing a word of it) to get in favour, duplicity.

It is the hypocritical person that does not practice what they preach; spouting off against adulterers, yet has his own mistress! It is the politician who makes all types of artificial promises just to get elected.

The jealous rival giving you a grovelling apology for ‘accidentally’ tripping you up and making you look a fool, or the timid new kid at school awkwardly introducing herself, and going around the houses to get to the point!

Judging by that last definition, I too am a bit mealymouthed!

The Daydreamer Challenge: Day 7 Pt 1. — April 12, 2015

The Daydreamer Challenge: Day 7 Pt 1.

It is getting near to the end of the Daydreamer’s Challenge, and the lovely Caitlin would like to know which day we have enjoyed the most and why.

My favourite day was yesterday, day 6 of the Challenge. The reason for this is we got to answer some questions from other bloggers. I think you find out more about a person from this kind of interaction, and it is something a little different too. I feel that it beings us a ll just a little closer which is really lovely.

One of the posts that I have enjoyed reading this week, is by Sophie Speaks Up. This blog is very funny, but Sophie’s enthusiasm really shines through as well. Her excitement when getting notifications that someone has read or commented on her blog I can really relate to. She has gained a lot of followers in a short time which is due to her creative and funny ways with words.

I would like to thank Caitlin very much for organising this challenge. It has been a lot of fun as well as very enlightening to participate in, I am thrilled that she is going to host another challenge in August, and will be signing up for sure!

Daydreamer Challenge: Day 5: Achievements and Goals. — April 11, 2015

Daydreamer Challenge: Day 5: Achievements and Goals.

Today for the Daydreamer Challenge, the lovely Caitlin has asked us to talk about our achievements and goals for our blogs. (If you have not already done so please check out her blog as it is filled with lots of good things).

I am stunned at  what I have achieved so far. I have only been blogging for about 6 months, and already have over 460 followers. More importantly than that, I have built up a real rapport with a number of fellow bloggers and would actually count them as my friends. I have loved interacting with them and reading their blogs too. There is so much to learn from each other.

My favourite posts of my own (seems a bit funny to say that) are usually my poems, like this one or my attempt at a Christmas Classic here.

Other achievements include writing a Haiku for the first time, and also taking part in various challenges, oh and choosing my favourite posts of the week to share on my Free-For-All Friday post.

My goals are just to keep writing, and hopefully bring a smile to someone’s face if I can. Although I have found that writing this blog has been very cathartic for me, especially in coping with my depression, it has turned into so much more, and I truly love blogging, and all that it entails.

My question is: Have you ever taken down a post because it offended someone?

The Daydreamer Challenge: Day 4: Blogging Tips — April 9, 2015

The Daydreamer Challenge: Day 4: Blogging Tips

Caitlin has set us quite a tricky challenge for today in the Daydreamer’s Challenge. We are to give any blogging tips that we have learned that has either made us want to follow another blogger, or has helped us to gain followers. I am still reasonably new to blogging, and am really rubbish at the technical side of things but here are my thoughts based on my personal experience and opinions.

  • Always take time to reply to comments. I know this is obvious, but if someone has taken the trouble to comment on something that you have written that strikes a chord with them, then they deserve the courtesy of a reply. Similarly, if you read something on someone’s blog that you can relate to in some way, then try and leave a comment for them. We all like to know that someone is reading what we write, and getting comments is a wonderful way to interact with each other.
  • Enrol on a ‘Blogging 101’ course or the writing or photography course, whichever one appeals to you, This really helped me to learn some of the basics even though I had already been blogging for a few months. You get to meet lots of other bloggers and can share tips and get feedback so it is a really worthwhile thing to do.
  • Read lots of other blogs! Don’t just stick to one genre. I follow all sorts of blogs, and have learned a lot from them as well as met some interesting people.
  • For me, when I am writing a post, I just write what I am thinking. I do not aim my posts at anyone in particular (this might not apply to you if you have a niche type blog) as I feel that if I am trying to impress someone then the post will look contrived and therefore defeat the object! My posts are, I’m afraid, the product of a disorganised mind!
  • Have fun! Join in with blogging parties and meet and greets. There are lots of lovely bloggers that host these and they are a great way to promote your own blog as well as find new ones to follow.

I hope some of these tips are helpful. Of course I am by no means an authority on blogging, but have told you what I have learned from my experience.

Episode 257: Wow 400 Followers! — March 27, 2015

Episode 257: Wow 400 Followers!

I am so pleased to have just reached 400 followers! I am beyond thrilled and have written a little poem to say thanks to you all

I really am so grateful

I am thrilled to share my news

That my blog is getting popular

And I’m getting lots more views!

Now, it is still only a youngster

And also very small

But to have 400 followers

Makes me feel 10 feet tall!

Since I started in September

I have met so many folks

I’ve read so many stories

And laughed at loads of jokes

Thank you all for reading

All my stories and my odes

I appreciate your kindness

Love, Edwina’s Episodes!

Walking On Sunshine Blog Hop Party — March 22, 2015

Walking On Sunshine Blog Hop Party

This weekend sees the start of Hugh’s Views and News ‘Walking on Sunshine Blog Love Party’. This is to recognise someone who shares a lot of ‘blog love’. It is tricky choosing just one as A Momma’s View, Linda G Hill and of course Opinionated Man do more than their fair share of sharing blog love, as do quite a few others.

However, the person I would like to talk about is Lily Pups Life. Her blog is about her struggles with Bipolar and the recovery process. We signed up for the March Blogging 101 course, so I have not been following her for long,

She is a constant in the ‘ Commons’ helping out other bloggers with some of their technical issues. She also gives out loads of advice, support and encouragement taking her time to visit other blogs and leaving encouraging and friendly comments.

This to me is part of what blogging is all about, She is a great writer, and a lovely person. Her blog is well worth a visit.

Episode 239: Making a Date… —

Episode 239: Making a Date…

For the very last Bogging 101 post, our task is to ‘set ourselves up for continuing success’ by working on an editorial calendar, letting our readers knows when they can expect us to post. Then we are to visit five other blogs and congratulate them!
The last part of that is pretty easy as I am always visiting other bloggers, and they have plenty for me to congratulate them about. The difficult part for me due to my technical ineptitude is creating a calendar…

Suffice it to say, I have now got a calendar, and I have even added some events to it. The tricky part is trying to sync it (or whatever it is you have to do) to my blog! I have created a page for it which I will publish tomorrow probably.

What you can expect from me? Well this is a tricky one. Apart from the new Free-For-All Friday feature I created in order to share other brilliant posts that I love, and an upcoming challenge I am going to be taking part in soon (I will reveal more about that tomorrow. See I have learned how to schedule a post at least) I do not have a set timetable of what I post.

You can expect to see at least one daily post from me, and possibly more. It all depends on what mood I am in; what I have seen that has tickled my fancy, or whether or not something has happened that I want to write about. I do not plan what I am going to post at all really. The one thing I do hope though is that whatever I do post can make you laugh, or at least smile. That part is in the rules 🙂

Episode 237: Bye-Bye To Blogging 101! — March 21, 2015

Episode 237: Bye-Bye To Blogging 101!

How quickly the last three weeks have gone by. I decided to have a go at Blogging 101 as there were still quite a few things that I didn’t really understand with regards to all things blogging related.

I am so pleased that I went for it in the end. Not just to fine tune some little cosmetic details that needed a bit of tweaking, but also to get the chance to interact with other bloggers that I hadn’t ‘met’ before. We had a pretty good class, and there were so many helpful people who offered good advice and support a-plenty.

I have had fun doing a couple of things that are a bit different for me, and I believe I even helped a fellow blogger who learned how to do something new through my Blogging 101 post (that’s what it’s all about, sharing)!

Anyway, we have got one last suggestion for a post for tomorrow then that is it. I shall miss it actually, but at least  I will be staying in touch with some of my classmates which is an added bonus!

Episode 231: No Brand New Blog For Me! — March 19, 2015

Episode 231: No Brand New Blog For Me!

I don’t think I am going to mess with my blog anymore now as it is pretty much as I want it to be. However, for the Blogging 101 task today I am to extend my ‘brand’ (it seems weird that I am a brand) with a custom widget, blavatar or fan page. Actually I have the blavatar and fan page, and 2 out of 3 Ain’t Bad (I think I have heard that somewhere before)! If you did want to see my Facebook page it is here.

My poor little blog has been primped, pruned and preened for all it is worth and I think I will just let it be for a while. After all my technical knowledge is pretty rubbish anyway (I have just had to e-mail Miss Hap’s school for instructions on how to open an encrypted e-mail from them. I could manage to get the password clue they gave me but still couldn’t open it!  I was rather humiliated to get the step-by-step, dunce proof instructions by the very patient IT person by return.

So there you have my little blog, not too fancy, a little bit dodgy in places, and possibly rough around the edges, but it’s mine and I am proud of my ‘brand’.
