#FundayMonday There Are Many Ways to be Artistic

Today’s video poem is about the different ways of being artistic and creative.

If you enjoyed those poems, and have time for a cuppa then you might like to check out my book Rhymes of the Times. It has many more poems like this and is perfect for dipping in and out of when you fancy a little pick-me-up.

Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Obsession. — May 18, 2016

Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Obsession.

I am taking part in Ronovan and Colleen’s Writers Quote Wednesday Challenge, and this week we have been given ‘obsession’ as our prompt word.
I felt that the following quote by sculptor, Henry Moore, pretty much sums up how I feel, and will be the subject of my poem.

“The creative habit is like a drug. The particular obsession changes, but the excitement, the thrill of your creation lasts.”

-Henry Moore

I have a bit of a problem

That I really ought to confess

Whenever I find a new hobby

I suddenly start to obsess!

First of all, it was sewing

I spent loads of money on that

But sadly, most of my creations

Were nothing better than tat!

I also get caught up in knitting

Stockpiling mountains of wool

With so many projects unfinished

I really am such a fool!

I had a go at card making

Buying up lots of supplies

I made a card for my daughter

After five or six tries!

And then I discovered blogging

As a way to cope with depression

I have slowly formed an addiction

And have yet another obsession!

TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Containers — January 2, 2016

TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Containers

I wasn’t sure what I was going to use today for TJ’s Household Challenge as ‘containers’ had so many possibilities.

Anyway, I have been on the lookout for a bag to keep my knitting in as a carrier bag is not the best receptacle! I was looking on Amazon to see how much they are and resented paying thirty quid for the bucket bag that I wanted.

However, I came across Craftsy Website where they had free tutorials on how to make one. Bonus! I had a few scraps of fabric leftover and gave it a whirl. I was really thrilled, as although I am not a great sewist (sewer looks wrong), I managed to make it, and I was more pleased as I have not felt like doing any sewing or anything for ages.

After all that rambling here is my haiku (and my bag)!

My new knitting bag –

A few hours,  some old fabric

Was all it took!

Creative Differences — October 26, 2015

Creative Differences

I am jealous of those that are crafty

They make something out of nothing at all

I am hopeless at painting

In fact I can’t even draw!

So many times I’ve been scuppered

By my lack of artistic prowess

I wish I could master home sewing

And knock up a beautiful dress

My hair looks totally unstylish

It is either up or it’s down

My makeup I keep understated

Or I’ll end up like Coco the Clown!

I love to get gorgeous flowers

But just plonk them straight in a vase

My presentation is seriously lacking

I won’t get any gold stars!

Although I will never be arty

I don’t consider it a curse

Because I can still be creative

By writing a few lines of verse!

Episode 131: Blowing Away The Cobwebs. — January 31, 2015

Episode 131: Blowing Away The Cobwebs.

Today my mind was too full of worries and niggles and I was feeling a bit het-up. The weather was dreary and grey, although dry, and I was moping about totally unmotivated…

As food is never far from my mind, I asked Mr Grump what we were going to have for dinner tonight. I was not impressed with his suggestions, and tried to persuade him to do our grocery shopping today instead of tomorrow whilst I stayed at home.

Well he wasn’t having that. He insisted that we all go shopping and that we walk the  3 mile round trip, as it would do us all good to get some exercise. Surprisingly Miss Hap was up for it, but I tried to get out of it, However, I realised that if I wanted something nice for dinner then I would have to go with them.

So off we trotted. Actually it was quite nice, as we kept off the main roads and used the little footpaths that cut through a large wooded area. We kept up a brisk pace and chatted throughout the journey, so it was rather pleasant.

In no time at all we were wondering around the supermarket. Miss Hap and I browsed through some craft magazines, and a knitting one caught her eye. Funnily enough, I was thinking today how I would like to take up knitting again, as I hadn’t done anything for ages. Also I can actually knit (unlike my dressmaking attempts, where I try  – but fail). I bought the magazine which included a pattern for some knitted monkeys plus the wool to make it with.

Once we had bought everything we needed, we headed back home. This time the walk was not quite as pleasant. For a start, the wind had kicked up, and about 10 minutes in, the rain started falling. This coupled with the heavy bags (stupidly, we hadn’t considered carrying the shopping all the way back) made the trip a little more challenging!

Everyone was pleased to get back home in the warm, and once we had dried off and sorted ourselves out, I started to knit one of the little monkeys…I could feel the stress melting away.
