#JusJoJan and #SoCS 2018 January 27th Dancing — January 27, 2018

#JusJoJan and #SoCS 2018 January 27th Dancing

Linda’s Just Jot it January and Stream of Consciousness post for today is a little different in that we are not to write about the prompt word, as you will see from the rules below, but rather something associated with it.

Check out the prompt below for more clarity.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: movement. However, don’t use the word “movement.” Choose some sort of movement, and base your post on that. Enjoy!

I do so wish that I could dance. I love music and actually get the urge to get up and dance, but sadly my body and mind let me down. I don’t have a lot of coordination and feel very self-conscious when dancing.

When I was younger and had a few drinks, I would get up on the floor and shuffle around my handbag, especially when something came on that I loved, but mostly I would be a wallflower sitting it out.

It doesn’t help that my sisters are great dancers and love to be up on the floor, especially as they try to drag me up with them.  I remember once going to a BBQ, where everyone was dancing. As usual, I was kind of standing there awkwardly, when one of the male guests who I did not know well, grabbed hold of me and tried dancing with me. Well, if you can imagine my mortification, as I felt more embarrassed and even stiffer and jerkier than normal, and to top it off he complained about my lack of rhythm!

At home, I will dance about with abandon if I feel like it, but I tend to dread going to parties where I will show myself up, either by getting up and ‘dancing’ with my lack of rhythm or by standing around awkwardly trying to do that kind of half-dance manoeuvre!

I thought dancing was supposed to ease away your worries and stresses not add to them!

Halloween Party Shells #SillySaturday — November 4, 2017

Halloween Party Shells #SillySaturday

I have teamed up again with the talented Sandra (or Daffy as I like to call her), from Wild Daffodil  to bring you another bit of silliness this Saturday.  Sandra is incredibly artistic and creative, and I just love the images she has created out of shells, stones and flowers.

One of the nicest things about Sandra’s blog is that you never know what she is going to get up to next, from beach art to knitted wigs, and mandalas to making spirals in her garden.

Here is our little story for this week. The Shells have got together in all of their finery for Halloween for some dancing and a special picnic.

The Halloween party was in full swing

On the beach, in the middle of the night

The Shelleys were doing the ‘Moonwalk’

Under its bright, silvery light

Later, when they got hungry

There was plenty for them to eat

Ghoulash, or stake and chips main course

Key Slime Pie or Pustard for sweet.

Drinks or course were a-plenty

Snot chocolate or a nice cup of pee

Maybe some whine would be better

For their Halloween festivities.

They all held hands as they walked home

Dressed as they were, all in white

I bet that if you had seen them

They would have given you a hell of a fright!

The Halloween Disco was here

The Shelleys were so cool

Dressed as ghosties and ghouls,

Looking rather scary and weird

Thriller got them up on the floor

Monster Mash had them begging for more,

Bewitched went down well

As did Bat out of Hell

They danced as they’d never done before

WRITESPIRATION #79 WRITE ABOUT THE EDGE — February 11, 2016

WRITESPIRATION #79 WRITE ABOUT THE EDGE

write-about-the-edge-copy1

For Sacha’s Writespiration this week, I was trying to think about when I was ‘on the edge’ as that is her prompt, then I remembered something very special, an event that happened when I was about seventeen.

After you have read it for the first time, you might want to go back and sing it, as it might make more sense! (I don’t want to give it away right now)!

It’s close to midnight

And something special’s just about to start

I’m so excited

I can feel the rapid pounding of my heart

I’ve stayed up late

Just so I can watch this special moment

Never before

Had something like this happened on tv

Only in movies!

Yes it was Thriller, Thriller night

And I was sitting there, right on the edge of my seat

You know, killer, Thriller night

The moment had arrived and it was

Perfect, amazing, that niiiiiight

Zombies and undead,

creeping from their graves in the dead of night

Michael and Ola,

Walking home under the full moonlight

He starts to change

But first of all, she doesn’t seem to notice

Then he looks strange

As she looks at him

Right between the eyes

He’d been Zombified!

Yes, it was Thriller, Thriller night…..

Episode 459: A Bit of Sunday Silliness. — August 16, 2015

Episode 459: A Bit of Sunday Silliness.

I thought I would share something that might make you smile this morning. You may remember some time ago when I posted a clip of my favourite advert featuring Dave and his strut in stiletto heels here

Well, this is what the company has followed it up with.

Episode 331: Being Silly on Saturday. — May 16, 2015

Episode 331: Being Silly on Saturday.

There is one song that always cheers me up whenever I hear it, and that is ‘Sexy and I Know It’ by LMFAO. I don’t know whether it is the lyrics, the silly video or just the beat, but whatever it is, it usually manages to bring a smile to my face.

Not only that, but I have noticed it seems to have an effect on others a well. A few weeks ago whilst I was queueing up in a gaming shop with Mr Grump and Miss Hap, this song suddenly blasted at deafening volume. I had to laugh as I a couple of teenagers were singing along, and even a couple of mums and dads were doing a bit of strutting along to it, embarrassing their red-faced offspring. It just seems to bring out the inner Sex God in people (whether they have one or not)!

So I thought I would share with you this advert that we have at the moment for Specsavers featuring this song. It is so silly, but I love it!

Enjoy.

Episode 321: RIP ‘You Sexy Thing!’ — May 9, 2015

Episode 321: RIP ‘You Sexy Thing!’

I might have mentioned on more than on occasion that I am a huge fan of the music of yesteryear, namely the 70s and 80s. I was therefore really saddened to hear of the death of Errol Brown, the lead singer of ‘Hot Chocolate’ a few days ago.

Who hasn’t pranced around to the stains of ‘You Sexy Thing.’ thinking it was written about them? Considering it was their best-selling hit and even featured in the film ‘The Full Monty’ (brilliant film), it was amazing to think that it originally started off as a ‘B’ side to another of their records, in the 1970s.

I remember being transfixed watching Errol, as he always seemed to wear rather. ahem, tight trousers which I am sure helped him along when he needed to hit the high notes. He also never seemed to age, looking and sounding the same 30 years after he first started out.

What I also liked about ‘Hot Chocolate’ was the fact that their music got us up dancing (I use that term loosely when it comes to me, but I always had a go) to hits such as ‘Every 1s A Winner’, ‘You Sexy Thing’ and ‘So You Win Again’ to name but a few.

On the flip side, I have been known to have shed a tear to ‘Emma’ and ‘I’ll Put You Together Again.’ They were an extremely versatile group, and Errol was responsible for writing many of their songs.

Although I am sad that Errol is no longer with us, I am grateful that he has left a legacy of such fantastic music behind that will continue to be enjoyed.

Episode 247: Feeling Fantastic at Fifty! — March 24, 2015

Episode 247: Feeling Fantastic at Fifty!

After reading a post today on Inventing Real Life about whether or not a woman is ‘invisible’ once they get to the age of fifty, it got me to thinking….

I am less than a year away from the big five-o myself (sob), and I am already having mixed feelings about it. Originally I thought how lovely it would be to have a big party to celebrate the occasion. It would be a great excuse for a get-together and some cheesy music to get everyone up and dancing,

Despite my two left feet, a bit of 80s music will have me heading for the dance floor and strutting my stuff, especially if there is mostly only family there to witness my humiliating ‘moves’! This is where it comes in handy having such a large clan, it is not that difficult to fill up a function room!

Another possibility is doing a one-off event, such as a skydive, or perhaps a bungee jump, or even a hot air balloon ride This is all well and good providing you are not the biggest coward around , who can barely stand on a chair without getting dizzy at the height off the floor! No, I am a huge fail in the thrill-seeker department (well at least this kind of thrill seeking)!

Once I have decided how to actually mark the occasion, I wonder what happens then? Will I fade into obscurity? Be too old and past it for anyone to bother with any more? Left on the scrap heap, destined to be humoured as that ‘mad old aunty’ that everyone gives a wide berth to at functions! The nutter with the whiskery chin (no point in bothering with keeping myself nice anymore) and the garish clothes?

Not bloody likely! I spent a lot of time in my youth where I was so quiet and shy that I faded into the background (mostly by my own choice I admit). I was the wilting wallflower at parties, head drooped trying not to draw attention to myself. The awkward, jerky, tongue-tied girl, then young woman, blushing if anyone talked to me, or looked my way. The constant loner standing out like a sore thumb at clubs, as everyone else had gone off to dance, and being self-conscious, I would hang around trying to look invisible as I didn’t want anyone to think I was waiting to be ‘picked up!’

Anyway, I have decided that I am going to try to turn over a new leaf once I get to my fifties. I am tired of being a non-entity, the forgotten face in the crowd, the recipient of the “oh, we’ve never met” comment, despite being introduced a few weeks previously. I am going to break out of that shell that has encased me for the last fifty years and Sod what anyone thinks!

Rather than disappear, I am going to stand out in my fifties. the new confident me. So what if I still trip over everything, put my foot in it, and show myself up! That is always going to be part of who I am, so rather than cringe and try hiding away, I will endeavour to shrug my shoulders, dust myself down and laugh it all off! I am going to be fabulous at fifty!

Episode 152: Disco Boy Dance Off. — February 8, 2015

Episode 152: Disco Boy Dance Off.

Oh I am so disappointed! I missed out an a prank carried out not too far away from where I live,  which is right up my street!

A local man decided to liven up a cold and dreary Saturday by turning up at his local Supermarket wearing nothing but a pair of rather unflattering purple shorts and one of those fleecy hats with the ear flaps.

The reason for his visit? He wanted to get the shoppers dancing, He had  trundled in a large sound system with a miniature disco ball which projected coloured lights, and set himself up in one of the aisles.

He was just drawing a bit of a crowd with UB40 and Paco Banton blaring out ‘Baby Come Back’ to get them warmed up when a grumpy looking Security Guard approached him.

Undeterred, he whipped out his microphone and asked to be left alone to get on with the show. This was not going to happen, he was asked to leave the store. Despite his protestations, to leave his stuff alone, the Security Guard was getting ready to manhandle ‘DiscoBoy (as he likes to be known) and his gear out.

Defeated, DiscoBoy left the building, and it was back to business as usual. What a shame. He didn’t even get to show off his dance moves!

I think they should have left him alone for a while to cheer people up…what about you?

Episode 149: Love On The Dancefloor….. — February 7, 2015

Episode 149: Love On The Dancefloor…..

Ahhh young love; most of us can remember our first crush, the butterflies when seeing them, the giggling with our friends  and the scraps of paper passed back and forth with little love messages on them…..and then the first kiss.

When I was about a young teen, I remember going to the local youth club with my older brother and younger sister. There used to be a disco with a DJ (who became a bit of a celebrity in the county before later before falling from grace) once a week which we used to love.

I remember on one occasion, some of my brothers’ friends using their catapults with creme eggs as missiles to shoot out the lights in the ceiling (God knows why, but you don’t question this kind of behaviour as a kid as you think it is funny)! Once the lights were down (literally) the dancing could begin!

The era was the late 1970s. The music was extremely varied and many of the sings had their own dances associated with them. Now I have always had 2 left feet, but everyone used to get up on the dance floor so of course I joined in….

Who could resist the clomping about to Status Quo? There were two rows of people on opposite sides facing each other, and as far as I can remember, you would lean forward lifting the back leg then lean back lifting the front leg then somehow, with a clomp and a twirl, you had swapped places with the person opposite you (assuming you had got the moves right and had not bashed into each other)!

Does anyone remember the dance that was done to Mud’s Tiger feet, and a few other songs as well? You know the one, hands on hips elbows out, then lean in twice with the left elbow, lean back twice, then forward with the right elbow, and so on. This was taken so seriously. My God, if you dared walk past someone at the wrong moment you were in danger of getting your eye blacked with a bony elbow!

My favourite was Boney M’s  ‘Brown Girl In The Ring’. This involved a bit of fancy footwork, a twirl and a clap! Now my coordination is pretty rubbish but I loved having a go at this one, especially if I managed to get through the record without messing up my moves!

Anyway,  back to the first crush. At the end of the evening the lights the DJ would always put a couple of slow numbers on so that gave boys the opportunity to ask a girl to dance with them (NEVER the other way around, we were ladies after all)! The girls would all be standing about nonchalantly chatting whilst desperately hoping they would get approached. I had my eye on a boy with the nickname of ‘ Bruiser’! (God knows why, he was pretty short and skinny, maybe he was the one that bruised easily rather than bruised others)!

Well one night, my luck was finally in and I got asked to dance by the boy of my dreams, I was so thrilled as we clumsily shuffled about to ‘Emotion’ by Samantha Sang. it was the best disco ever!

Just before the slow dances finished he asked me if I would like to go outside as there was a park right next to the hall. I grabbed his hand and off we went, Off course it was pretty dark by now. and I had not seen a piece of black fencing on the ground, you guessed it, I went flat on my face (well knee actually)! He helped me up, and I ignored the pain as I hobbled over to the swings with him, blood trickling down my leg.

That was the night I had my first kiss…. my knee was throbbing, bloody and muddy, and the kiss was rather wet and slobbery!

I was in heaven!
