How the Cookie Crumbles. Tess is back, and not only that she has written another one of her brilliant short stories. She has been missed.

Silver Threading Colleen has been doing a bit of housekeeping, and she passes on some advice here. I am thrilled to see that she has mentioned two other blogs which I also read, that also gave wonderful advice.

Wacky Word Wednesday #17 — September 2, 2015

Wacky Word Wednesday #17

Welcome to another Wacky Word Wednesday. It is time for yet another weird, wonderful or wacky word to get an airing this week. This is another word that had origins that I was not aware of; now that I am, it makes it all the more appealing to me! So, let me present to you….

Mollycoddle. I thought you might be interested to know that in the 19th Century a ‘Molly’ or ‘Moll’ was a girl or prostitute. ‘Coddle’ of course is to over-indulge someone. Now, for a filthy-minded person like me, this conjures up all sorts of wicked thoughts!

Back to ‘mollycoddle,’ it is pampering and pandering, spoiling and spoon-feeding; treating like a baby, cosseting and cajoling. This is a child that is wrapped in cotton wool, it’s every whim catered to, waited on hand and foot, smothered with love and almost killed with kindness!

Very often a mollycoddled person is a wimp and a weakling, a bit of a namby-pamby, big girl’s blouse type. Someone who is scared of their own shadow, and clings to their mummy’s skirts.

It certainly does not do anyone any favours in life!

S.D.Gates This is absolutely hilarious as well ass being spot-on. I just had to share it with you.

The V-Pub Beautiful post about the simple pleasures. gorgeous pic as well.

Simply Marquessa This made me laugh. It is something that happens to most of us. I love the way she has turned it around!

So there you have you box of delights for this week, enjoy.

Happy Friday!

Episode 447: Off-Key. — August 6, 2015

Episode 447: Off-Key.

I had to laugh today at work. As most of us know, some elderly people don’ exactly mince their words and they feel that they have earned the right to say exactly what they think. Although this is not always pleasant (A couple of days ago as I was trying to stop an elderly gent throttling himself with the bed remote control which had a long, curly wire attached to it, I was called a ‘stupid bi**h’ as he tried to bite my hand that was trying to release his grip on the remote).

Sometimes it can be funny though. The same man had earlier demanded that me and another nurse that were going to wash him ‘bloody get on with it, instead of just talking about it!’ (We like to inform our patients what is going to happen with them before we launch straight into stripping off their clothes)!

Anyway, today I was back in my usual bay with my ladies. I had gone on my break and when I came back, one of the Dementia Volunteers was playing his guitar and knocking out a few numbers that may be familiar to the patients, such as Buddy Holly, Beatles etc.

Now this chap is pretty old himself, and has a  ‘set’ of about 4 songs which he sings before moving onto the next bay, This is the same routine every week but I love it ,and so do most of the patients…..

Except one lady (she does not have dementia) who wanted him to ‘turn it down’. When told by the Healthcare Assistant that it was not polite to tell him to do that, and that he was giving up his own time to entertain people, she told her,

“well don’t expect me to applaud him!”

The patient had relayed all this to me when I went over to talk to her , and then with a wicked grin she looked up and said,

“Don’t you just hate bloody do-gooders”!

Episode 434: Wacky Word Wednesday #12

Oh I do love a Wednesday, especially when I have dug up another gem of a word to share with you, and play about with. Today’s is particularly funny as I was unaware of its origin, and on finding out what it could be, added to my delight. So let me re-acquaint you with…..

Codswallop. Yes, it is a wonderful word that is not given enough chance to shine. Now those origins,  ‘cods’ are apparently testicles and ‘wallop’ of course is to smack or hit. Presumably in days gone by if someone was caught telling lies they would get a swift smack in the goolies to discourage them from doing it again!

As you have probably guessed if you did not know already, that this word is a load of cobblers, total piffle, not to mention poppycock! It is balderdash, and bullshit,  hogwash and horseshit, and just plain old shit, shit!

People who talk mumbo-jumbo, fiddle-faddle and a load of bollocks! They blather and babble about stuff and nonsense, and utter tripe.

Actually, I am not surprised this word originated from a clout to the nethers!

Free-For-All Friday #21

It’s Friday already, how this week has raced past. Time to take it easy now and relax with some wonderful reading material, courtesy of our wonderful blogging friends. This week I have chosen some thoughtful, funny, thankful and downright silly posts for you to enjoy. Please do go and visit these blogs as they all have loads more posts that are just as brilliant!

Beyond The Picket Fence This post is something I dread when my daughter gets a bit older, especially when I remember what I was like!  This is thoughtful and honest and I enjoyed it.

Nutsrok Now Linda’s blog always guarantees a good laugh. She is one fantastic story-teller with a wacky family which always gives her plenty of fodder for her posts. This post is a little different but no less funny.

The Ninth Life Although this is a very short post, it is no less inspirational, and I could certainly relate to it.

A View From My Summerhouse  As you now I love a bit of Flash Fiction. Here it is done with a slight twist as it is in the form of a poem.

But I Smile Anyway. Ritu’s blog always has a bit of everything on it, but all of it is positive and happy. This short post is very good advice indeed.

A Prompt Reply This post was lovely. The photos were so beautiful, and it is lovely to hear about someone discovering a new passion!

Susie Speaks A positive and happy post, reminding us all that we do have many wonderful things in our lives when we stop and think about it.

I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did.

Happy Friday everyone 🙂

Episode 426: Wacky Word Wednesday #11

Hooray,  it is Wednesday which means it must be time to unearth an underused word, dust it off, and give it an outing. Today’s word is wonderful,in its own right but also because it has so many wonderful synonyms too.

Unctuous. Oooh what a slimy, slippery word this is, bowing and scraping sycophantically.  It creeps and crawls, grovelling in its greasiness culminating in a cringe worthy display of ass kissing, bum sucking, gushing at its absolute worst!

It is insipidly insincere; this flattery and fawning is too subservient and self-serving, not to mention nauseating and naff!

Chris The Story Reading Ape’s Blog Chris has always got loads of wonderful things on his blog, but this post was one that certainly resonated with me.

Author Carole Parks This was a beautiful and poignant post, which certainly brought a lump to my throat.

Wafflemethis This post by Rich made me re-consider the way I had thought about something that we all strive to have it seems

A Momma’s View This is another post that I could identify with. One of the problems of the age we live in.

Sacha Black Sacha and her motley crew (well I can think of at least 2 reprobates), have lined up a fantastic meeting on August 1st. Sadly I won’t be able to make it but I will be following it on Twitter and Facebook to see what they all get up to. I have also cast my vote, and invite you to do the same!

So there you have my blogtastic posts for this hot and sunny weekend. Have a happy Friday!

Episode 407: Wacky Word Wednesday #9 — July 8, 2015

Episode 407: Wacky Word Wednesday #9

I am in the mood for another wacky, weird or wonderful word, and seeing as it is Wednesday, I’m in luck as I can get to resurrect one that is not used often enough. Today’s offering, sounds very old-fashioned and rather lofty, but I love it.

Flabbergast. This word amazes and dazes, confounds and dumbfounds. It’s a ‘you could have knocked me down with at feather’ type of word; shock and surprise follows it wherever it goes. In fact in can be strong enough to startle or stun the unsuspecting.

It is news that can appal and enthrall, as well as overawe, being both frightful and delightful.  Hmmm, that sounds a bit like me, depending what mood I am in!
