Free-For-All-Friday #29

It’s the end of the week, which means that I have got a tasty selection of treats for you to enjoy over the weekend. There is all sorts this week, from a short and very sweet Haiku, to a very sad open letter which really touched my heart and also some laughs in-between. As ever please go over and visit these blogs to see what other delights there are in store.

But I Smile Anyway Ritu always manages to bring a smile to my face with her sunny nature. This post really tickled my funny bone!

Stuff and What If, Olga’s Haiku has all the ingredients for a sweet post.

Of Means and Ends I happened across this post, and was appalled when I watched the video. So it seems, was this blogger.

Chris, The Story Reading Ape’s Blog Now I love a good put-down or comeback, and this is a prime example!

A Cooking Pot and Twisted Tales This is a fellow Writing 101er whose blog I have just started following. This letter was so touching and heartfelt as well as extremely tragic.

Hope you all enjoy these as much as I did.

Happy Friday!

Episode 482: A Little Bit of Housekeeping — September 5, 2015

Episode 482: A Little Bit of Housekeeping

It seems that several of us at the moment are having a bit of a clear out, doing some re-organising and tidying up of our blogs.

I have sorted out the overload of emails situation and then decided that I should ‘pretty up’ the look of my blog a bit. (You can tell I have got a bit of time off)! What started out as me trying to sort out the pictures and photos  (I failed), ended up with me spending hours on creating a lovely front page for my blog (Thank you Don Charisma for the tutorial that was so clear, it even worked for a dunce like me)!

I spent a further few hours this morning trying to create menus like ‘Tidbit Tuesday’ where I can put all the relevant posts. As some of you might have noticed, I failed at that as well as it all got a bit messy and complicated. This then led to some profuse swearing and ended up with a savage jabbing at the ‘delete’ button.

Anyway, I hope you like my new-look blog.

Episode 420: If At First You Don’t Succeed……. — July 18, 2015

Episode 420: If At First You Don’t Succeed…….

In my last post I mentioned how I was having trouble with getting to grips with my new phone. I am nothing if not determined, and when Mr Grump asked me if I wanted to go for a walk this afternoon, I thought it might be an idea to take my phone and get some pics! (For the other stuff, I am going to Google how to use it)!

Some of my pics of bumble bees on thistles are a little bit rubbish still as I couldn’t see what I was doing as the sun was so bright (ahem, I know a bad workman always blames his tools)but I was quite pleased with the others and have decided to share them with you (whether you like it or not)!!

The area we walked is not too far away from home; these fields are just on the edge of a built up area which houses some office blocks. There is a little river tucked away just behind that as well. On the way back there was a huge field of corn with just a couple of poppies that had sprung up on the outside of  it that looked very pretty.

Episode 401: Sweating it Out! — July 2, 2015

Episode 401: Sweating it Out!

Well, I knew it wouldn’t last. I can’t stop myself (I think it is too far embedded into my genes), I am going to have to moan about the weather! Yes, I should be grateful that we have seen quite a bit of sunshine, and that it is lovely and hot. The problem is, we are not used to it!

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far here in good old England, but luckily I didn’t have to work so could wear what I wanted and also do what I wanted. Last night, however, the temperature did not decrease by much and it was stifling hot and muggy. I ended up trying to sleep with the fan whirring on full blast and an ice pack!  Bearing in mind, I am also at ‘that age’ when ladies get a little more flushed at certain times! I thought I was going to spontaneously combust!

This morning dawns another hot day, but cooler as it was only 28 Celsius (about 82 Fahrenheit). I reluctantly donned my thick cotton uniform and tights, plus clumpy shoes and bloody stupid belt to go to work.

As I walked onto the ward the heat hit me like a slap in the face! Great, putting on latex gloves and plastic aprons is going to make a lovely addition to my already boiled body (thank God the patients allowed us to open the windows so we could let a bit of (hot) air in!

Luckily for me I had to go off the ward for my annual top up resus training, in a room with air conditioning! Bliss! Well it was for 5 minutes until we had to pummel the dummy back to life with frantic CPR. Pretty exhausting stuff.

Anyway, I hot-foot it back to the ward for another face smacking dose of heat, only to discover the boss wants to take some photos as we all have to have our pictures up on the board outside the ward (presumably to terrify those not too ill to care)! At first I was a bit put out as I thought it would be better off being taken first thing in the morning but in this heat it makes no difference anyway.

So imagine this, a relative comes to see their poorly elderly relative, decides to have a look at which staff may happen to be looking after them, and sees my picture. Ruddy faced, ghastly grimace (we were told to smile) hair plastered to the head, and sweat dripping. Professional is not the word!

You’d run a bloody mile, talking your relative with you!

Episode 345: Wacky Word Wednesday #4 — May 27, 2015

Episode 345: Wacky Word Wednesday #4

Oooh I do love Wednesday when I can play with a word that is weird, wonderful or just downright wacky! Now for some unknown reason, the type of words that appeal to me always seem to have some sort of sexual connotation to them (and even if they don’t I still manage to find one) and today’s word is no exception, so I give you…….

Concupiscent. This is a very lecherous and lustful word. A hot and horny, heavy breathing, panting, pouting  quivering mass of sexual energy, looking for an erotic encounter. It is the playful partner, tantalising and titillating, teasing the senses into a frenzy of fervid passion and libidinous longing.

It is no surprise to me whatsoever that this word is Latin in origin! They sure knew how to have fun.

Episode 294: How To Make An Arse Of Yourself! — April 18, 2015

Episode 294: How To Make An Arse Of Yourself!

Silly old Michael Buble has landed himself in trouble over an Instagram pic that his wife took.  Whilst holidaying in Miami, he and his family went to get some food, and his wife decided to take a picture of him. In the background there is a young woman with rather a skimpy pair of shorts on, which the wife thought to include in the picture.

When Buble saw the pic of the young lady he thought it would be a great snap to post, and thereby share with all of his followers. Just in case they didn’t appreciate the young lady’s assets, he included hashtags such a ‘beautiful bum’ and ‘hungry shorts’ amongst others to draw attention to the ‘humps’ in question!

He thought no more about it until he started getting irate messages by people incensed that he ‘body-shamed’ this poor woman. He was accused of being a misogynist, who was disrespecting women. Others also asked him whether or not he had obtained permission from the woman to even take her photo.

Others were concerned that the young woman might have only been a minor. Michael Buble thought that the pic was a bit of ‘light-hearted’ fun and that is was complementary to the young lady concerned to post her backside all over Instagram!

Do you think Buble has made an ‘arse’ of himself, or is he just having a bit of harmless ‘cheeky’ fun!

Free-For-All Friday #6 — April 17, 2015

Free-For-All Friday #6

Welcome to week 6 of my Free-For-All Friday where I choose some of my favourite posts of the last week. As usual, there is a pretty mixed bag of all kinds of things, from the funny to the serious, and thought-provoking. I am sure that you will find something amongst these that will tickle your fancy!  All of the blogs of course, are well worth a visit.

Fill Your Own Glass. This post was a very heartfelt one written by the lovely Karen. I have followed her blog for a while now, and I can always count on her for her well-written and well-thought out posts. They often make me take a step back and look at things from a different perspective.

A Opinionated Man Where do I start here! Jason has done loads to help new and established bloggers alike. He offers advice and help, as well as posts pretty regularly. He very often holds ‘meet and greets’ so even if this link is out of date by Friday, it won’t be too long before he holds another one. An invaluable opportunity to  promote your blog and find others!

Blogging Around With The Original Domestic God This post had me laughing my head off! The sheer silliness of it really appealed to me. He has a wonderful way with words and fantastic sense of humour.

Yadadarcyyada This post is a really great piece of advice. I really love the style of this blogger, who I fortunately came across this week. She is down to earth and funny, and gives out handy tips too!

Thebippityboppitybeautifulblog We all like to look at something pretty from time to time. I love bright colours especially yellow and I just loved these pictures. Go over and have a look, they are gorgeous.

The Screenplay Of Life Chronicles This post is just lovely The photograph is beautiful as is the message. Kevin is really talented, and has a wonderful blog.

Sophie Speaks Up This is a really funny tongue-in-cheek post that resonated with me. I laughed my head off, when i read it.

Episode 289: Facebook Friends – or Foes? — April 15, 2015

Episode 289: Facebook Friends – or Foes?

Having a baby is such a life-changing experience. You can’t wait to meet your little bundle and as soon as they are born, you oooh and aaaah over every little milestone, especially if they are your first. In this age of social networking, you can record and document everything for the benefit of your family and friends so they don’t miss out either.

How would you feel then if you received an anonymous letter through the post from some of your ‘friends’ slagging you off for your excessive Facebook posting? This is what happened to one poor Australian Mum.

Apparently, a group of her so-called fiends had got together and had written (or should I say typed. this was anonymous after all) to her telling her that they were fed up with her constantly posting pictures of her little girl. The said hurtful things like ‘they didn’t care that she was able to crawl on the carpet.’

They were also sick of the little girl modelling outfits that she had been given as gifts, telling her mother that she should ‘ send the person who sent the gift a private photo of her wearing it, rather than plastering it all over Facebook.

They also told this Aussie mum that they would be glad when she goes back to work so that she won’t have as much time to post as many pictures of her daughter online. These people, don’t forget, were supposed to be her friends!

However, this mum had a good friend who happened to be a comedienne with a load of Facebook followers. She sent the nasty note to her who posted it on her own page with a little message explaining how this ‘took bitching to a whole new level.’

Who needs friends like these?!

Daydreamer Challenge: Day 3 — April 8, 2015

Daydreamer Challenge: Day 3

Today the challenge is to write something nice about another blog that is participating in the ‘Daydreamer Challenge.’

That is not difficult at all for me to do, in fact, the only difficulty I have is selecting one blog, so I am going to choose two; both of which I am following anyway.

But I Smile Anyway. Ritu is someone I felt an immediate connection to. We have quite a lot in common, our sense of humour, we both like to write things ‘off the cuff’ and we also love to write a poem about anything and everything!

What I also love about Ritu’s blog is that you are never going to know what she is going to write about next! She has a wealth of inspiration which she draws upon to write her posts (I am not at all envious – much)! She is also a lovely person. Friendly and funny, and that is why I love her blog!

A Momma’s View I have been following this blog for quite some time now. This woman is a living dynamo! She is an excellent cook, takes beautiful photos, had two children which she home schools AND if that isn’t enough, is an author of not one, but three books!

I would love to have a bit of her stamina and dedication, that’s for sure! She is another one that helps and supports other bloggers which I admire greatly. She  is a very kind and lovely person as well.

As I said, it was extremely easy to be nice about these two wonderful blogs. Go and see for yourself, they are worth a visit for sure,

Episode 238: Self(ie) Confidence! — March 21, 2015

Episode 238: Self(ie) Confidence!

Selfies seem to be so popular at the moment, especially with the young, Now I am not very photogenic so am not that keen on having my picture taken at the best of times. My daughter, however is just the opposite!

She loves to take selfies whenever we go anywhere, and very often tries to get me in on it as well. When one of my best friends got married last year Miss Hap took a load of selfies at our table.  I ended up being in several of the shots, either stuffing myself with food and looking like Bessie Bunter, or having some sort of gormless expression on my face. (I know that might be normal for me but I don’t want her bandying the photos around her friends for their mocking pleasure)!

Now I don’t mind it when she uses one of the funny apps on the phone to scrunch up the face and twist it around a bit so that you end up resembling some evil pixie type of creature. as that is really quite amusing. What I do hate though is the ‘Fatify’ app or whatever it is called!

You might have noticed that I am not the slimmest of people, but by the time this app has finished with me, I have gained yet another three chins! Likewise the ‘oldify’ app. That is hideous as well. Having said that they are all in good fun and thank goodness she sees them as that way too.

In my day, ‘the camera never lied’ but of course now that is far from the truth. We have all heard of these ‘celebrities’ that have photoshopped their already slender bodies in order to shave off a few inches here and there, plus erase some ‘unsightly’ wrinkle, or mark. The end result is a far from realistic image of a supposedly ‘perfect’ person.

Luckily for me, Mr Grump likes a woman with ‘a bit of meat on her bones.’ I am aware that I may have a little too much to be healthy and for that reason need to lose some weight. I do not make a big thing out of it though as I don’t want to make weight an issue which might start influencing my daughter.

My daughter is extremely active and spends loads of time running around, The fact that she is only 11 years old as well, I do not think she should be overly worried at this point about her weight, and thank goodness she doesn’t seem to be. I do try to encourage her to be a little healthier though.

I love this ‘selfie’ of myself and my daughter, it is my favourite picture. She has done something to it with an app, but it only alters the colour, it doesn’t add or take anything away. I hope she continues to be body confident, and enjoys her youth!
