When I am Not Writing……

I spend far too long on my blog, either writing posts or catching up with reading other bloggers’ but it is something that I do truly enjoy. However, for our Writing 101 post today, I am to tell you about what I like to do when I am not writing to re-charge my batteries!

Well, most of the time, when I am not writing, it is because I am at work. Most of you know what  do at work anyway, and although I do have a rant now and again, there are some wonderful and precious moments at work that I am privileged to be a part of.

I love some of the quips that my elderly patients come out with, such as “I have had a few pricks in my time”. An innocent remark, but not to someone like me who roared their head off! I asked another lady to “just swing your legs round please”, as I was helping her to get out of bed. She informed me that she “doesn’t do a lot of swinging nowadays.”  How can comments like that not brighten up the day!

Also, on the other side, yesterday, in amongst all of the chaos, I noticed a patient in my bay was not going to have long left in this world, and after we informed the doctors, who in turn informed her family, who left straight away to try to get to see her (they lived 90 mins away). Myself and two other staff took turns in staying with her, holding her hand and stroking her hair, as we did not want her to be on her own in her final moments. She actually managed to hang on until the family came, and passed away peacefully in their company.

I am not one for going out too much, being a bit of a hermit, so another thing I like to do, is a bit of home sewing, trying my hand at making various things, that are rather hit and miss in their success. I am also in the middle of 2 knitting projects as well. The one at the bottom will all be sewn together once I have knitted enough squares. I don’t want to give too much away as to what the end result is yet, but I need to get a bloody move on!!!

So that is pretty much it, unless you count the times I do venture out and a bit of Candy Crushing when the mood takes me!

Episode 475: Kicking Back and Letting Go. — August 29, 2015

Episode 475: Kicking Back and Letting Go.

What a week this has been! My routine oriented, working patterns, all arse-about-face! Two night shifts in a row is pretty alien to me, and I had one hell of a job sleeping the next day (particularly when my neighbours had a row outside my bedroom window and she kicked him out, hurling insults after him as he roared off in the car).

Unfortunately, I notice that he has returned to the matrimonial home, but must be keeping a low profile as there is none of the usual shouting (or even singing) at the top of his voice for our ‘entertainment!’

The second half of the week saw me get the job that I had applied for. The preparation and research that I did through sleep-deprived, half-closed eyes paid off, and my confidence, and self-esteem got a much-needed boost. I did it!

Friday saw me back at work, and even the fact that there were only 6 of us looking after 26 patients did not dampen my spirits, as the team that were on shift are brilliant. It is going to be so difficult saying goodbye to them, but in the last year alone 16 staff have left with a few others are to follow soon. I know I am doing the right thing as conditions are not going to improve,

The other change that I made is that sadly, I no longer write my ‘Wacky News Stories’ for the magazine, as they were looking to change direction. I could have stayed and written more serious stuff, but as I was also doing some editing and uploading articles from three other writers,  I found it all too time-consuming and I do not like to do things half-cocked!

Today It was out to get Miss Hap some new school shoes and other bits that she needed as they go back on Wednesday; (I have got the week off so actually get the other two days to myself)! As both Miss Hap and Mr Grump are out, I put my feet up and had a much-needed nap!

Episode 344: Here Comes Summer! — May 26, 2015

Episode 344: Here Comes Summer!

What a pleasant day it turned out to be today. As we have just had a Bank Holiday, and the kids are off on half-term, the weather forecast had been rather gloomy for this week (typical), so to see the sun shining this morning was a bonus.

Yesterday my younger sister had given me some cucumber and tomato seedlings, 2 sunflower seedlings and some sweet peas to put in my garden as Mr Grump has not planted anything this year. Luckily, the rosemary, chives and rhubarb we had previously as well as my roses, are doing pretty well, so our garden will not be too sparse this year after all!

Anyway, Miss Hap was out with her friend for the day so I got on with a bit of housework, but had a nice unexpected visit from my sister-in-law. We then went off to pick up my little sister from work and went back to her house to sit out in the garden for while.

My sister (Masterchef) likes to makes an occasion our of everything, we sat outside drinking Earl Grey tea from pretty china cups (she kept glancing over at me as I am usually not to be trusted with anything delicate due to my clumsiness) and tucking into a huge platter of cheese, gammon, feta cheese and biscuits.

It was so lovely sitting there chatting, as we rarely get to spend time with each other. The garden looked beautiful with the flowers and plants just coming to life, the sun was shining, and we all were laughing. It was such a simple pleasure, but gave me a much-needed boost to my mood!

Oh and when I got home I got sunburnt – but of course being me, it is only on the one arm! Classy! 🙂

Episode 59: On The Home Straight…. — November 28, 2014

Episode 59: On The Home Straight….

The end is getting so near now

I’m starting to see through the fog

Only 3 more days of this pressure

In daily posting my blog!

So many subjects I’ve covered

My brain has been stretched to the max

Thoughts and ideas that are spinning

Oh how I need to relax!

I’ve ranted, I’ve rhymed and I’ve ruminated

On different parts of my life

I’ve aired, I’ve bared and I’ve shared

My tribulations, troubles and strife!

My tank is now running on empty

I’ve hardly got anything left

But I know that once this is over

I’m going to feel so bereft!

For how I have loved being part of

This challenge I set out to do

For not only was it great posting

I read some fantastic blogs too!
