A Little Self-Belief Goes A Long Way — November 22, 2017

A Little Self-Belief Goes A Long Way

I wrote this poem some time ago based on this quote. It seems particularly relevant to me at the moment as I gear up for exams and assignments.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

― Eleanor Roosevelt

I know that I have a bit of a complex

It is probably because I am shy

I worry that people think I am standoffish

Because I stand silently by

At many a social occasion

When everyone’s chatting away

I am desperately trying

To think of something to say

I don’t live in a fancy residence

I don’t drive the trendiest car

I am not a brilliant genius

I feel that I am below par

But wait, who says I’m not worth it?

It is me that causes myself grief

I need to forget about others

And work on my own self-belief!

Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Believe — July 28, 2016

Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Believe

I am a little late with the Writer’s Challenge this week, which is hosted by Colleen and Ronovan, but as always the prompt word is an inspirational one!  We have ‘believe’ to work with, and despite finding several quotes that almost say what I wanted, they weren’t quite right, so I’ve thought up my own!

When others believe in you, it spurs you on; when you believe in yourself, then you can truly achieve your dreams

-Judy Martin 2016.

Sometimes I lacked the confidence

To try out something new

Despite a burning ambition

To make my dreams come true

With so many things, I wanted to do

Yet being afraid to try

Meant that I was getting nowhere

And time was passing me by

I couldn’t pass my driving test

No matter how many times I tried

I was stuck in a dreadful marriage

Where all I did was cried

I felt I was a failure

As I didn’t do so well at school

I was never going to be anyone

Just some silly little fool!

BUT those times are far behind me

I have turned my life around

And it is due in many ways

To all the support, I found.

I was suddenly encouraged

To take my driving test

Instead of doing it covertly

And feeling extremely stressed!

I had my lovely family to turn to

When I finally got the divorce

I actually went to University

And passed my two year course

My biggest wish came true

When I gave birth to a girl

She was a longed for baby

And brightened up my world

My blogging friends have played a part

In helping me succeed

This led to me publishing a book

Something I never thought I’d see

But the outcome of it all

is that everything I have achieved

Has been with help from others

And the fact that in myself I believed!

Writers Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Faith — July 1, 2016

Writers Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Faith

It is Colleen’s turn this week to give us the prompt word for her and Ronovan’s Writer’s Quote on Wednesday Challenge. She has come up with ‘faith’ and to me, this quote sums it up perfectly

The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.
J.M. Barrie

Have you ever wanted something

That you thought was out of reach?

Perhaps getting a book published

Or a secret dream to teach?

Maybe you’ve failed your driving test

Oh, So many times

Or you’re struggling with your poetry

As you just can’t find the rhymes.

You finally went back to school

To learn a brand new trade

But already you are worrying

Whether you will make the grade

Don’t ever give up trying

You must always have some hope

You know that you can do things

That you thought way beyond your scope

Have faith in your ability

And don’t be afraid to try

You never know, you may find your wings

And soar way up in the sky

Episode 492: National Encouragement Day. — September 12, 2015

Episode 492: National Encouragement Day.

I just happened to come across a National Calendar which informed me that today is ‘National Encouragement Day.’ What a great idea this is. I appreciate Mother’s and Father’s, Grandparents, Valentine’s, and all the other ‘Days’ when we can show our loved ones how much they mean to us (normally at an exorbitant price for the privilege), but this one is much better.

We all love to focus on the negative things in life, moaning when things go wrong, or slagging someone off when they have upset or offended us (maybe without them even realising). so to show our support to each other is a wonderful, positive thing that we can all do without spending a single penny.

As I have mentioned before, this blogging community that we all belong to, is one of the most supportive, and encouraging group of people who I have ever met (even if it is virtual)!

We all take on challenges of one kind or another during our lives, and we all have dreams and goals that we aspire to. We can do so much more than we realise, it is just a case of having the courage to get up and go for it!
