I Won!!! — November 20, 2015

I Won!!!

I can’t believe I did it, but I won the NaNoWriMo Challenge! Last night I completed just over 50 000 words of the Novelette that I had wanted to write.

I decided to set myself the challenge after being inspired by so many of my blogging friends. I have never written anything other than poems really, but there was a story that I wanted to tell, and have done for some time. I have been quietly picking up hints and tips from the established authors we have among us here on WordPress.

The one piece of advice that I had from a few different people was just to write, get it all down and the editing process can come later, so that is what I did. Every night I set aside two hours after work where I would write, and at weekends, I would do as much as I could at any opportunity I got. It paid off because I have got there a little earlier than expected!

So I have got the bare bones of my story, a little jumbled up perhaps; character names have changed over the course of it, but that is down to me getting carried away and not checking my notebook properly I have got a hell of a lot of work to do if I do want to try and make something of it, but that is for later on.

I thought this challenge was particularly relevant to me now as it is coming up to my 50th birthday (Sssh, yes I know I don’t look a day over 65), and it is something that I can be proud of achieving before reaching that terrifying (to me) milestone!

Anyway, I did it and I beyond thrilled!  Now that is enough of the trumpet blowing, I shall be back in the land of blog soon. It is funny how much I missed you all  despite managing to get a couple of posts in.  Thanks again, for all of your encouragement and support. it really helped to spur me on!

Perseverance: A #BeWow Post. — October 13, 2015

Perseverance: A #BeWow Post.

Perseverence 2

I thought that this wonderful quote by Thomas Edison was a great way to start my post on perseverance.

Many of life’s failures are people who did not realise how close they came to success when they gave up.

This quote really speaks to me as it seems that in our culture of instant gratification, many people do not want to wait for something that takes time. If they have tried and failed at something once, they often tend to lose heart and give up altogether, despite being a whisker away from success.

I have seen this myself; a few of my fellow students at university had failed an assignment and rather than retake it, they decided to give up completely. This was right near the end of the course! Not only did they not graduate, but they were demoted as well!

I might have mentioned before that the school motto at my primary was something like, ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, again.” This always stuck in my mind, and if nothing else, I am certainly determined! I did not like school, was not allowed to go to college afterwards (my mum was mad I didn’t try at school), but always regretted not getting many qualifications. It might have taken me many years, but eventually I did it!

I also don’t get people who have given up smoking for something like five years then go back to it again! It is hard enough giving up in the first place, to go back on it after such a long time is such a shame. I was determined to give up,and have done it at the second attempt, Fingers crossed I won’t go back there again!

In life, we are constantly challenged to learn new things, or unlearn old things! With a little determination and a hell of a lot of perseverance, it is possible to achieve success, After all you might be a lot closer than you think!

Episode 492: National Encouragement Day. — September 12, 2015

Episode 492: National Encouragement Day.

I just happened to come across a National Calendar which informed me that today is ‘National Encouragement Day.’ What a great idea this is. I appreciate Mother’s and Father’s, Grandparents, Valentine’s, and all the other ‘Days’ when we can show our loved ones how much they mean to us (normally at an exorbitant price for the privilege), but this one is much better.

We all love to focus on the negative things in life, moaning when things go wrong, or slagging someone off when they have upset or offended us (maybe without them even realising). so to show our support to each other is a wonderful, positive thing that we can all do without spending a single penny.

As I have mentioned before, this blogging community that we all belong to, is one of the most supportive, and encouraging group of people who I have ever met (even if it is virtual)!

We all take on challenges of one kind or another during our lives, and we all have dreams and goals that we aspire to. We can do so much more than we realise, it is just a case of having the courage to get up and go for it!

I have been nominated for a great challenge by the lovely Erika.

The challenge is about posting your favorite quotes or your own quotes for 3 days in a row.

The rules of the challenge include:
Thank the person who nominated you
Pass it on and on and on.

When I was in primary school our motto was:

‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.’ I have actually pretty much followed this advice as I am quite a determined person who does not want to give up easily on something that I want to achieve.
