Thus morning I actually had a lie-in and didn’t get up until 9am which is unheard of for me! Nobody else was awake as we had a bit of a late night and after the other morning I decided to just let everyone else sleep in, especially as it is Mr Grump’s birthday today (yes he is another year grumpier)!
Anyway, I went into the bathroom, and the light didn’t come on, so I thought the bulb had gone, However, on going downstairs, I realised that we had a power cut and nothing was working! Oh, this is novel, I remember as a little girl we used to have quite a few power cuts and Mum always had some candles and a torch handy so at least we could see!
Seeing as it was well into the morning I didn’t need any of those, but I did want a cup of tea. Luckily we have a gas cooker so I just boiled up some water, no problem. I usually go on my laptop early on but with no internet or electricity I had to give that a miss. Hmmmm, what to do?! How did we amuse ourselves before technology took over the world with its hypnotic powers, drawing us in and keeping us occupied?
I went on my mobile and looked at my notifications from Word Press. I had a few comments so decided to reply to them, only to realise that I can’t send it as I have no internet. Now what? I know, I’ll play Candy Crush on my tablet, I am doing quite well with that. I started playing but then realised I had to connect in order to progress, but I had no bloody internet, damn it!
I am not very used to silence either, I always put the TV on first thing to watch the news for a while whilst I catch with reading some blogs, but of course that was out, so I read for a while. I do read a lot but never in the daytime, preferring to relax just before I go to sleep by reading a good book. I did enjoy the 20 minutes or so before the power suddenly burst back into life, but felt really tired!
The others finally got up soon after and although Mr Grump does not like to make any fuss about his birthday, we gave him his presents and sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him which I think he enjoyed. Miss Hap is at a friend’s tonight for a sleepover so we are going to have a nice quiet night in together.
As it is his birthday I bought him the latest ‘Lord of the Rings’ DVD in 3D which he is watching now, and I haven’t even moaned about it once! I hate those bloody films and just cannot get into them at all. He is sitting there though, as happy as Larry, Roxy not far away from him as usual. What a shame it would be if there was a power cut now!

Hah! Even in power cuts, you’re the one to suffer while they are blissfully unaware! Happy b-day to Mr. Grump! Congrats on getting him through another grumpy year!

Thanks. I will pass on your good wishes to him, Yes it is bloody typical that they both slept through it, The only good thing though was that I had such a long lie-in otherwise I would have had hours of it!

Happy Birthday to Mr. Grump!
There’s nothing like a power outage to make you realize just how dependent we are on electricity! We have a battery back-up to plug our modem into, so even in a power outage we’ve got internet for as long as all batteries involved last.

Thanks Vanessa I will pass your wishes on to him. You are lucky to have the back-up internet and power 🙂

As to the power outage, we are never in a fix, we have books!

I have just had to ask Mr Grump who Legolas is (the bloody film is still going, we are on disc 2 now). He is the one with the long white-blonde hair right? I haven’t noticed any lookers in the film,I have just seen a huge guy with a ginger plaited beard as well, plus they all have pointy ears!

Well I will have to let you off then as your main reason for watching them was to see your crushes! 😀

Ha Ha! It is just because I am way too much of a dunce to understand the LOTR films that I don’t like them! 🙂

Now we both know that’s not true. I think it’s just one of those things you either love or you hate. I had friends I thought for sure would love them and nope, they never made it past a half hour lol

I also had a long lie until 9am, which is unheard of. I used to love power cuts as a child. We were allowed torches at night and my sister and I used to play “The Golden Shot” on the ceiling. Are you too young to remember that programme? Don’t you dare say your mother remembers! Anyway, happy birday to Mr grump… oh what a shiny ed he has

Say Happy Birthday for me! Also, I hate the LOTR movies too, though surprisingly I didn’t mind the books. I usually don’t like fantasy but they were okay.

Haha on the power cut during the LOTR movie 😛 A girl can dream. I liked the books when I was a kid, don’t much care for the movies.
We rarely lose power here. Oddly, the other side of the street often loses power…

That is odd that one side of the street gets it, but at least you are on the right side! Unfortunately the power stayed on throughout the film 😦

We’ve had a 3D TV for over 3 years and never once watched a 3D movie on it … Come to think of it, I’m not sure where the glasses are… Do the ones from the cinema work??

No the ones from the cinema don’t work with ours. I think I have watched one 3D film, but old Grump makes the most of it! 🙂

Does your cell phone not have a internet connection unless it is through wi-fi? Just curious, happy birthday to Mr.Grumps, and as a guy I don’t understand the hoopla on the Lord of the Rings movies unless I need an excuse to take a nap.

Ha Ha! Actually yes, my phone does have an internet connection. I didn’t even think of that as I was in such a temper!

Happy Belated Birthday to Mr. Grump! (I somehow missed this posting) Anyway, you are so funny–you really crack me up. I can’t stand the LOTR films, either. However, my husband could watch them ALL day long. Ugh! Maybe I should just throw the power to the electrical box and pretend it’s a power outage. 😉
