As some of you may know, I am not exactly the most proficient person when it comes to technology. I tend to get by just sticking to the basics,or perhaps asking for a little help when there is something I really need to do understand how to do.
Anyway, myself and Mr Grump were due an upgrade and after a lot of thought (which one comes in the prettiest colours, and has a good camera, as I want to try to learn to take a decent photo as I am rubbish at that as well) I ended up with a really lovely gold coloured phone that can do quite a lot of stuff.
I decided that I would try to use some of these wonderful features as they will go to waste. Well, I was pleased to see I have a pedometer on this health app, so I gave that a go and was delighted that on days that I work. I of course do more than he recommended 6000 steps by double and I surpass my daily activity minutes as well.
So far, so big-headed! (I would be a lot more pleased though if the bloody weight would come off with all this ‘exercise’. Next up I wanted to play with the command thing, where you ask it to do something and it does. Ooooh this is fun, I asked it to text Mr Grump it did! He laughed his head off when I politely asked it to set my work alarm for 5:15am please! Well, most of you will know my take on having good manners!
Having said that I wanted to wring its bloody neck this morning, on my day off, the stupid alarm went off singing away at 5:15. So here I am at 7am on this beautiful Saturday morning, having already been up for a couple of hours (once I am awake that is it, I have to get up).
I didn’t have a lot of success with the camera either. I mentioned that I went to the awards ceremony at Miss Hap’s School on Monday. Well me being me, as I went on my own, I got there too early as I stressed myself about parking. The advantage though was that I got to sit in the 3rd row from the from just behind the teachers. Miss Hap was the very first child up to get her award, and I was there, camera poised.
As her name was called she walked on stage and stood there for a bit, once the subjects that she had got the award in were read out she walked across the stage, shook hands with the chap who was there from the charity the school was supporting this year, and then walked off again. I spent so long trying to zoom in and focus I missed the bloody handshake moment but did at least manage to get a photo of her! Yes, I only managed to get 2 in total due to my faffing about!
There needs to be some sort of course set up for the technodunce!

Aw bless you Judy! These new phones can be a headache at the best of times! At least you got A picture!!!

I have a picture of my son graduating: it looks like one of those crowd shots with people hurrying past. You can tell its him because his blur is centre stage. The other two shots are, respectively, of the Dean’s left ear, in all its hairy close up and my shoes. It was a splendid day. I’m there with you Judy but once you grab a couple of goodies you’ll be hooked.

Oh I hope your wife took some shots of your son’s graduation as well! I usually leave the photography to my husband, but I want to learn how to take good photos myself! Thanks for the support Geoff 🙂

Give yourself time, any new technology is baffling at the start. In a couple of weeks you’ll be wondering what all the fuss was about lol

Yes, hopefully I will soon get the hang of it! 🙂

It’s great to have all these neat features until you realize you have to learn how to use them…:) but you will, in time.

Oh Judy, I see you fighting with this phone :D. I started laughing too when you said “please” to it… haha. This voice stuff can drive me crazy. It barely works out. I am a lot faster just pushing the buttons and I keep my good mood.. lol

Yes I think you are right but I just wanted to play with some of the features 🙂

Is it an iPhone you got, Judy? If so, and you have an Apple Store near by, then pop into the store and sign up for a free course on using your new purchase. They run lots of courses in store and all are free to attend. The only downside is that places get booked up quickly.
If it is not an iPhone then I have always found that playing around with the new device is the best way to get to know how to use it, or google the item and watch some YouTube videos on how to use it. I’ve found the latter very useful in moments of great despair.

It is a Samsung Galaxy S6. I thought I might Google it this afternoon and have a bit of a play. Thanks so much for your advice Hugh 🙂

The technology can be very confusing. I like things to be very simple and carefree. If it’s a camera, how about a zoom button and a ‘take the picture’ button! lol THAT would be perfect.

Technodunce…..what a term! Love that. As for the phone…one word of advice on the zooming…it is much better to take a shot without zooming and then crop afterward…one you start zooming, you’re already losing resolution. My tiny tidbit toward your techno education……I look forward to many more pix on your blog!

Thanks for that tip. I don’t know much about resolution but it makes sense to crop it later 🙂

I’m also technologically challenged! Thank goodness Scott’s a bit more savvy. It doesn’t help that after you get the hang of something, there’s always an upgrade around the corner! Enjoy your new phone, and Miss Hap looks cute as a button! 🙂

Thanks so much Tonya, I was so mad that I spent so much time buggering about with the phone trying to capture everything and hardly got anything! 🙂

I love the command thing, it’s called Cortana on my phone. I said, ‘remind me to pick up eggs next time I am in asda’. Later that week, I drove into asda car park and it texted me to remember the eggs…. I was so thrilled, I forgot the eggs. The only thing it doesn’t like is my Scottish accent and sending texts can be a very stressful experience as the silly cow continually misunderstands my tilt on words. I almost threw her out the window and returned to the ‘old fashioned’ way.

Ha Ha! I love the story of the eggs, so funny. Hey, you can’t blame poor Cotana for not understanding Jockanese! 🙂

This is me!
Judy E Martin
Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I am Judy, in my (very) early fifties and decided that life definitely gets more interesting as it goes on! I am a wife and a mum and have just finished University as a Registered Nurse, after having worked as an Associate Practitioner in the NHS. I am also a poet and the author of my debut book, 'Rhymes of the Times.' I love to laugh, and I love rhyming words too, so I joined the two together, and my book was born. I am currently working on another book in the series also. I am a prolific blogger and enjoy writing funny stories, anecdotes, and anything really that takes my fancy.
