For this week’s Writepiration Challenge Sacha has asked us to write about ‘Utopia’ and what it means to us.
I actually struggled with this, as although the idea of Utopia is brilliant in theory, I am not sure it would actually be that wonderful in reality. A case of being ‘careful what you wish for’ comes to mind!
Anyway, here is my take on it.
There is no such thing as Utopia
But if there was, for me it would be
Days filled with beautiful sunshine
And home would be right by the sea.
There would be no sickness or hunger
Crime would never exist
No wars, struggles, or conflicts
Or hospital waiting lists!
Everyone would be equal
Regardless of colour or creed,
Gender and sexual preference.
There would be no children in need.
But what if life were so perfect?
With never a worry or fear
Nothing to strive or save up for
Everything you need is right here.
Being constantly happy
With everything going your way
May get kind of boring
Like a Utopian Groundhog Day!
Love this, thank you for sharing – I think I’d like to attempt that challenge 🙂

Great poem. I kind of think there is no Eutopia here on earth. Or else, all those things you wrote about would be true. I’m afraid we always end up with more of a dystopia. Enjoyed this!

Great art comes out of struggling Judy. Excellent take with a nice build to the twist. You should try a sonnet next!

Thanks Geoff. I would not have the first clue on writing a sonnet! I only seem to be able to write this style of verse! 🙂

How wonderful it would be if we had a Utopia like this. I guess only in our minds.

I do so love your poetry. I have no idea how you always get it to rhyme and its always so funny. I loved the hospital waiting list line having done some project work around hospital delays recently that did tickle me!

Oh I do love to moan about a hospital waiting list! I have been doing the silly little poems since I was small so I suppose it is just habit rhyming everything! Thanks for the compliment though! 🙂

This is me!
Judy E Martin
Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I am Judy, in my (very) early fifties and decided that life definitely gets more interesting as it goes on! I am a wife and a mum and have just finished University as a Registered Nurse, after having worked as an Associate Practitioner in the NHS. I am also a poet and the author of my debut book, 'Rhymes of the Times.' I love to laugh, and I love rhyming words too, so I joined the two together, and my book was born. I am currently working on another book in the series also. I am a prolific blogger and enjoy writing funny stories, anecdotes, and anything really that takes my fancy.
