Before the last pumpkin has rotted away and the fireworks fizzled out, the Christmas adverts have started on the TV! Now I love Christmas, but it is just a bit early to start the annual panic. I thought that you might enjoy this poem I wrote a while ago, about the guilt I felt for not being organised.
There’s only 7 weeks until Christmas
And I’ve not even started to shop
No presents, no food, and no booze yet
I don’t even have any pop!
The town is all lit up and sparkling
Santa’s grotto has also arrived
The shops are blaring out music
The old Christmas favourites revived!
All the heart-warming adverts on TV
They are sure to bring a tear to the eye
But my festive spirit is lacking
And I’ve not even made a mince pie!
I really need to get started
There are so many things still to get
I will make more of an effort
But it’s still not December yet!
Lol! Sis yesterday I burst out into Christmas songs int he car and the kids both said, “Mummy? Christmas songs? ALREADY?!”

Not at all Suzanne. Ritu and I have been following each other for a few years and also met up along with other bloggers at the Blogger’s Bash in 2016. Ritu often refers to the blogging community as her’ Blogily, and there are a few of us that call each other ‘Bro’ and ‘Sis’ as it just kind of stuck 🙂

Okay, I thought so. Very kiwi thing the Bro bit 🙂 I suppose it is like all other communities they take on a group not dissimilar to a “family”.

Yes, exactly. Mind you, I usually say ‘Bruv’ rather than bro! 🙂

Cute poem. 🙂 But, honestly, this has gotten out of control. I know it’s been said a million times, but the holidays are getting closer and closer (retail-wise) so that we can’t enjoy one holiday without seeing the decor for the next one. Rushing everything…

Yes, exactly and then by the time it actually gets her, we are sick to death of it!! 🙂

Your poem is excellent and right on the mark. Not even mid-November, and I am not about to listen to Christmas music OR buy a gift. Well, maybe I better start a bit of gift shopping. :-0

Ha! I have succumbed to buying a few gifts, Pam but the Christmas CD is not coming out yet! 🙂

And the sales have also started, Judy. ? I ate my first mince pie of the season last month and have already bought myself two advent calendars and an advent candle. I do love this time of year and can’t wait to watch the first Christmas movie of the season.

HA! Bless you, Hugh! I have not had any mince pies yet although I might make some this year, I haven’t got Miss Hap’ advent calendar yet, but I have tarted buying some presents. I will get into it soon though as I do love Christmas, just not starting so early! 🙂

My Grandmother always did her Christmas shopping in the January sales, Judy. She’d even wrap them up and then put them away and sit back and watch everyone else rush about when December came. She had time then to bake mince pies, Christmas cake and watch all the old movies on TV. She never allowed Christmas to get the better of her. She passed away on Boxing Day one year, so never got into the situation that she had spent money without the benefit.

She was well organised, Hugh. I know my Nan would get stuff in the January Sales too, wrapping paper, cards, the lot! How sad that your Grandmother passed away on Boxing Day. That must make the holiday period a bitter-sweet one for your family.

To begin with, yes Judy. However, she loved Christmas and told my mother that the family had to continue to enjoy the festivities as much as she did. I think I get my love of Christmas from her.

Holiday mood is definitely up in the air, even though Christmas isn’t so big here! Perhaps, the end of the year, the winter and the yummies make it so. Or just pure laziness 😀

HA! Well whatever the reason, it is always good to have that holiday mood!

Surely Christmas doesn’t start until 24th December? ? Or does no one else panic buy like me? ?

Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I am Judy, in my (very) early fifties and decided that life definitely gets more interesting as it goes on! I am a wife and a mum and have just finished University as a Registered Nurse, after having worked as an Associate Practitioner in the NHS. I am also a poet and the author of my debut book, 'Rhymes of the Times.' I love to laugh, and I love rhyming words too, so I joined the two together, and my book was born. I am currently working on another book in the series also. I am a prolific blogger and enjoy writing funny stories, anecdotes, and anything really that takes my fancy.
