Episode 486: I Write Because…. — September 7, 2015

Episode 486: I Write Because….

As I may have mentioned, I am looking to expand my mind, and I thought I would sign up for the Writing 101 Course. We have been given the task of writing for between 15-30 minutes freestyle on why we have decided to write. I have decided to set the timer for 15 minutes.

The reason I originally started to write this blog was at my sister’s suggestion. She thought that I came out with some funny things at times and thought that I might be good at blogging. I had never even really heard of blogging at that time and wasn’t sure about what I would write either, but thought I would give it a go as I had nothing to lose (I certainly had no audience at that point)!

I had heard, that writing things down could sometimes be good for people who suffer from depression, so this also spurred me on to have a go, and Edwina’s Episodes was born. Well, it kind of evolved really. I was shy and not very certain of the reaction I would get so decided on going anonymously. At first I posted no pictures and used my middle name.

People slowly started appearing, and reading my blog after a while. Eventually, some of them even commented on it! I was beyond thrilled, as I never really thought I would have any interest other from my family, and that even they would get sick of it after a while!

Then I had more and more people visiting, and I had a go at NaBloPoMo during November which gave me a whole new set of challenges as well as a new set of friends.

Actually, this is now the reason I carry on writing! I love this community and the great people who are around me. Where else would I be able to have so many talented writers, bloggers, artists, poets, designers, crafters, and everything else in between all in one place? I have learned more than I ever thought I would, just by talking to many of you, I have seen so much generosity in so many forms by so many people on here, which is both humbling and heartwarming.

Although I have written many little poems and ditties and had them published. as well as a journal article I wrote whilst at university which was also published, I am not a writer per se, as I have never written a book, and rarely even a story, as I have a distinct lack of imagination unfortunately!

However, I am determined to have a go at some sort of writing (probably in the humour line, as don’t want to go too far out of my comfort zone) and that is why I have taken up the Writing 101 course. If I can’t do it, at least I have my blog and that I will not give up!

Episode 482: A Little Bit of Housekeeping — September 5, 2015

Episode 482: A Little Bit of Housekeeping

It seems that several of us at the moment are having a bit of a clear out, doing some re-organising and tidying up of our blogs.

I have sorted out the overload of emails situation and then decided that I should ‘pretty up’ the look of my blog a bit. (You can tell I have got a bit of time off)! What started out as me trying to sort out the pictures and photos  (I failed), ended up with me spending hours on creating a lovely front page for my blog (Thank you Don Charisma for the tutorial that was so clear, it even worked for a dunce like me)!

I spent a further few hours this morning trying to create menus like ‘Tidbit Tuesday’ where I can put all the relevant posts. As some of you might have noticed, I failed at that as well as it all got a bit messy and complicated. This then led to some profuse swearing and ended up with a savage jabbing at the ‘delete’ button.

Anyway, I hope you like my new-look blog.

All of these bloggers are extremely talented and have lots more on their blogs to offer, so please go for a visit and have a poke around, I am sure they won’t mind!

Yadadarcyyada I like the take on blogging here. Some very good tips and advice written in a very light-hearted and entertaining style.

SachaBlack Poor old Sacha is just itching to get her hands on her manuscript! Find out why she can’t yet, and what she is doing to distract herself.

How the Cookie Crumbles. Tess is back, and not only that she has written another one of her brilliant short stories. She has been missed.

Silver Threading Colleen has been doing a bit of housekeeping, and she passes on some advice here. I am thrilled to see that she has mentioned two other blogs which I also read, that also gave wonderful advice.

Belinda Crane I have not been following this blog for very long, but I am so glad I found her (Thanks Hugh). This is a great story with an unexpected twist.

A Mommas View If you have not read this post yet, please do. That is all I want to say about this for now.

Episode 448: Free-For-All Friday #23 — August 7, 2015

Episode 448: Free-For-All Friday #23

Welcome to another Friday Free-For-All.I have got a variety of goodies for you to enjoy this week from handy tips to things of beauty and all sorts in between. It will be very much worth your while to visit these blogs as they have so much more to give.

Jen’s Pen Den Now this post gives some wonderful advice to all of you writers, plus I think it also applies to blogging as well. I am always looking for ways to improve my blog and there is so much to learn, so getting hints and tips from those ‘in the know’ is always a huge bonus!

My OBT This post is absolutely delightful. I think these are so cleverly designed and I covet them all. Thanks so much to Donna from sharing them.

Van By The River I loved this post. as it was something that was so true in my family (Hence the reason I originally left home at 16 to work at a holiday camp)! Van has a wonderful way with words and this was a great post.

Battered Wife Seeking Better Life Isn’t it amazing how so few words can convey so much? This Haiku is very poignant.

Simply Marquessa This was a very fun post that I really enjoyed reading. It just has that little hint of naughtiness to it as well (for those with dirty minds)!

Episode 431: Addicted to Blogging! — July 26, 2015

Episode 431: Addicted to Blogging!

This weekend I’ve been very busy

Helping out on a great magazine

Writing a few wacky stories

Plus a few odds & sods in-between

So my blog has been rather neglected

I have not posted as much as I might

I am still catching up with some reading

Before I even decide what to write!

I love the great interaction

That I get from my blog family

Seeing what everyone’s up to

And sharing what is happening with me.

So it back to some blogging this evening

As I can’t bear to miss just one day

I know it sounds like addiction

But it’s better than cigs, anyway!

Free-For-All Friday #21

It’s Friday already, how this week has raced past. Time to take it easy now and relax with some wonderful reading material, courtesy of our wonderful blogging friends. This week I have chosen some thoughtful, funny, thankful and downright silly posts for you to enjoy. Please do go and visit these blogs as they all have loads more posts that are just as brilliant!

Beyond The Picket Fence This post is something I dread when my daughter gets a bit older, especially when I remember what I was like!  This is thoughtful and honest and I enjoyed it.

Nutsrok Now Linda’s blog always guarantees a good laugh. She is one fantastic story-teller with a wacky family which always gives her plenty of fodder for her posts. This post is a little different but no less funny.

The Ninth Life Although this is a very short post, it is no less inspirational, and I could certainly relate to it.

A View From My Summerhouse  As you now I love a bit of Flash Fiction. Here it is done with a slight twist as it is in the form of a poem.

But I Smile Anyway. Ritu’s blog always has a bit of everything on it, but all of it is positive and happy. This short post is very good advice indeed.

A Prompt Reply This post was lovely. The photos were so beautiful, and it is lovely to hear about someone discovering a new passion!

Susie Speaks A positive and happy post, reminding us all that we do have many wonderful things in our lives when we stop and think about it.

I hope you enjoy these posts as much as I did.

Happy Friday everyone 🙂

Episode 421: Heartfelt Thanks. — July 19, 2015

Episode 421: Heartfelt Thanks.

Yesterday, was a massive milestone for me in that I reached just over 700 followers! I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be part of this wonderful blogging community we have here.

So thank you to those that come to visit, whether it be daily, or whenever you feel like it! Thank you for welcoming me into your own worlds and indulging me; especially  when I am having a rant, or a moan, or inflicting my rubbish attempts at getting to grips with technology on you! Thanks for all of your wonderful blogs that have had such an impact on me, making me laugh, cry, sing along, or made me think about things in a whole different way; thanks also to those of you that have given me advice on technical stuff where I had no clue!

Free-For-All-Friday # 20 — July 17, 2015

Decoding Happiness This blog is one that I have not been following for long, which us a shame as I have been missing out! Himali is one of the nicest people you could wish to meet. This poem is just beautiful.

Chris The Story Reading Ape’s Blog Chris has always got loads of wonderful things on his blog, but this post was one that certainly resonated with me.

Author Carole Parks This was a beautiful and poignant post, which certainly brought a lump to my throat.

Wafflemethis This post by Rich made me re-consider the way I had thought about something that we all strive to have it seems

A Momma’s View This is another post that I could identify with. One of the problems of the age we live in.

Sacha Black Sacha and her motley crew (well I can think of at least 2 reprobates), have lined up a fantastic meeting on August 1st. Sadly I won’t be able to make it but I will be following it on Twitter and Facebook to see what they all get up to. I have also cast my vote, and invite you to do the same!

So there you have my blogtastic posts for this hot and sunny weekend. Have a happy Friday!

10 Years A Single Mom A heartfelt and heartwarming post from a loving mother. This blog is all about spreading the love!

John D Eccles This post did make me laugh. I like the style it is written in, and the self-deprecating humour. The poor hapless husband, who tries hard!

Fill Your Own Glass The lovely and wise Karen has written a great post here which, although makes lots of sense, many of us still do not put it into practice.

Little Miss Menopause This post, although not on Stephanie’s actual blog, was written by her for an online article. It is a beautiful story of a real act of love.

Runaway Nuns And Leprechauns A fun post that I really enjoyed. so cute!

Happy Friday! 🙂

Free-For-All Friday: #18 — July 3, 2015

Free-For-All Friday: #18

It’s Friday!! We are in the midst of a heatwave over in the good old UK, so it’s hot, hot, hot!

I have found a few great blogs for you to peruse this week (unfortunately, time has  been a bit limited so there are not as many as I would like). I still have 2 wonderful stories for you, one hilarious experience we can all relate to, and a very witty observation.

Smorgasbord. This was really beautiful and touching story, that was told in such a wonderful way, it really came to life.

Homemade Naturally As you know I love a bit of Flash Fiction and I thought this was a clever take on the photo prompt!

Barrow Blogs This post form one of Judith’ s Creative Writing students had me wiping the tears from my eyes with laughter. It is something most of us can relate to as well.

Dandelion Fuzz This list is very funny and observational. I love Kat’s style of writing and sense of humour.

So there you have a few little treasures to unearth over the weekend. All of these blogs are worth checking out as they each have so much more to them than the posts I have chosen for this week.

Happy Friday!
