I Would Tell You Over A Coffee — December 12, 2015

I Would Tell You Over A Coffee

Time for a coffee break and a catch-up. Pull up a chair, sit down with your beverage of choice, and let me fill you in on what’s been happening over here at Edwina’s Episodes.

I would tell you over a coffee...that I am almost ready for Christmas. I have even wrapped some of my presents which makes me feel all festive now.  We are going over to my younger sister’s this year for Christmas day so I am lucky enough to have a meal waiting for me when I finish work, and having BoxingDay off means I don’t have to worry about going to bed early Christmas night!

I would tell you over a coffee…that I am getting excited about the arrival of my great niece/nephew who is due in February (a couple of days before my 50th birthday actually). The last baby we had in the family was actually my own daughter, which was 12 years ago now!  I have already been looking at all the cute little baby outfits that are around at the moment, and can’t wait to go baby shopping when it arrives.

I would tell you over a coffee…that I am settling into my job quite nicely now. I really have met some lovely patients and was actually quite touched when I bumped into one of them at one of the GP surgeries. He came bowling up to me putting his arm round me and asked me when his ‘trolley’ was coming (he wanted me to refer him for a walking aid). He and his wife are such happy, cheery people, always laughing when I go round there, despite their combined health problems.

I would tell you over a coffee…that I am still working on the novel that I wrote for NaNoWriMo. Thank goodness for my fellow bloggers too, who are helping me out with it.

I would tell you over a coffee…that myself and Mr Grump are trying to resist growing older, but it is now catching us out. Neither of us wear our glasses much ( I have to for work, but never do at home), but when we went to my sister’s a couple of weeks ago and ended up playing a game, neither of us could see properly to read the questions out, so ended up sharing my sister’s reading glasses!  We were due eyes tests last week and both of us need stronger prescriptions now too, so have had to order new glasses! Contact lenses are out of the question, as I cannot poke about with my eyes, no way! Damn you middle age!

TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Christmas

We have the lovely theme of ‘Christmas’ to use this week as our prompt for TJ’s household haiku challenge

Christmas means lots of things to me, one of them is hearing Christmas carols which always make me feel festive.

Out Christmas shopping

Stop for coffee and carols

Another is my Christmas tableware. Now it is now that often that we actually have Christmas dinner at home, but I love my Christmas gravy boat…

Free For All Friday. — December 11, 2015

Free For All Friday.

It is already  Friday again!  The weeks are flying by so quickly at the moment, I can hardly keep up. The year has almost gone as well now with only a few more Fridays left.

I have found a few more posts for you about a variety of subjects which I am sure are going to impact on you in some way as they did on me.

Roughwighting We all love a compliment and this post shows that others may see us  differently than we see ourselves!

SD Gates This post is a very sad reflection of the times we live in. Unfortunately, though it is something that needs to be considered.

The V-Pub  Another reflection on the times we live in, and a very poignant song to go with it.

Nick Verron  I have not highlighted a particular post here for several reasons. This blog is not very old yet, and there are only a few posts, BUT they are all wonderful. This man is an absolute wonder! Talk about inspirational, this blog is the epitome of it.

So there you have my wonderful choices for this week. Please take a moment to visit these blogs if you haven’t already done so as they have so much to offer.

Happy Friday!

Christmas Trees Around the World. — December 10, 2015

Christmas Trees Around the World.

Colleen has come up with a wonderful idea of us all sharing photos of our Christmas trees and she will collate all the pics so we get a good look of Christmas around the world.

My tree is an artificial 6ft black Christmas one. I have had this now for about 12 years. When I first moved into this house with Miss Hap (she was 3 months old at the time), I didn’t have any Christmas decorations, so my younger sister bought me this tree which came with some lovely silvery decorations which set it off perfectly.

I still use the same decorations. but I also have added to them a little over the years. Two of them were ones that Miss Hap Made when she was 4 and 5 years old

These two decorations were recently sent over to me from a special blogging friend Wendy. The shells are from near her home in Australia and she made these beautiful decorations in my favourite colours for me and some also for our mutual friend Mary-Anne who lives in Canada in her favourite colours. I actually received 5 of them, and they are so pretty.

Oh, What A Beautiful Morning — December 9, 2015

Oh, What A Beautiful Morning

This morning was like a summer’s day down here in Kent. As I was driving around early this morning on the way to my patients, the sun was so huge and bright, that I could barely see, especially as it was so low in the sky.

I kept trying to get pictures of it and finally the one I got was whilst waiting at some traffic lights! I could hardly even look at it as it  was so strong. This is just unheard of at this time of year.

The other photos I took were just outside of Wye  just past the crown. it was so stunningly beautiful I just had to pull over and take a pic. Although I have lived in this area for years, I suppose I never appreciated the beauty of what was literally on my doorstep.

So, there I was chugging about in my little car with my Christmas tunes blasting out and a beautiful, almost blue sky. Much better than being stuck in an airless  hospital ward!

Wacky Word Wednesday —

Wacky Word Wednesday

Wahay it’s Wednesday! This is where I get to play with  wacky, weird or wonderful words. The one I have chosen today has a wonderful ring to it. Its original meaning was to ‘plump with fat’ or to puff up, so of course, this word is right up my street! So here without further ado, I give you….

Chuffed. This is such a happy word, pleased as punch, and thrilled to bits. It is jolly and jovial, ecstatic and exuberant. The feeling you have when things go right for a change, blithe and buoyant, rosy and rapturous, on top of the world (hmmm that sounds familiar)!

The origins of this word make me think of a little bird plumping itself up, and preening with pride, puffing out its little chest. Chirpy, and cheerily hopping about!

A Heartfelt Thank You — December 8, 2015

A Heartfelt Thank You

Just a short post to thank all of you who follow my blog. I have now reached 1000 followers and am thrilled.

I know it may sound clichéd, but it really is not so much the number of readers that I have, it is the interactions that I have with some of you that makes it so special.

I do love a bit of banter and I get plenty of that, I love to laugh, some of you have me in stitches, you are so funny. I love to learn things, many of you have taught me things, whether it be about blogging, photography or taking part in NaNoWriMo! I enjoy a good story or poem, which I get from you. To put it in a nutshell, between you, I get a good laugh, shed a few tears, become outraged, stretch my brain cells (taking part in some of your challenges), and am inspired by the challenges so many of you have overcome.

The most important thing of all that you have given me, though, is your time; time to read my ramblings, time to comment on something, time to explain something to me, time for encouragement. This I truly appreciate, especially as it is in such short supply.

So, I just want to say again.

THANK YOU! 🙂

Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt # 74 ‘Cake’ and ‘Wolf’ — December 7, 2015

Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt # 74 ‘Cake’ and ‘Wolf’

Now Ronovan’s prompt words of ‘cake’ and ‘wolf’ for this weeks Haiku challenge had me thinking it was going to be pretty easy. However, he is on to us and would prefer something a little less obvious. Hmmmm.

I have had to think ‘outside the box’ and have been at the thesaurus!

Here is what I ended up with!
