Episode 84: ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas…My Version. — December 6, 2015

Episode 84: ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas…My Version.

I thought I would recycle my take on ‘ The Night Before Christmas’

Judy E Martin's avatarEdwina's Episodes

Stephanie from ‘Once Upon your Prime ‘ did a fantastic spoof on ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ which you can read here. I was so impressed with her version, and I wanted to have a go at this myself. Every year I have to read it every night in December to my daughter. we take it in turns to read a verse out each, and we both love it. I have not gone with a theme as Stephanie has, just given it a bit of jiggery-pokery here and there to give my take on it!!   Hope you enjoy…

‘Twas the night before Christmas, with presents to wrap

The turkey still thawing, no time for a nap!

The stocking was dragged out from last year

We’re hoping and praying St Nick will appear!

Miss Hap was all nestled snugly in bed

With iPhones and Converses going around in her…

TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Keyhole — December 5, 2015

TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Keyhole

I love the prompt word TJ gave us for this week’s household haiku challenge which is ‘keyhole’.

I decided to show two keyholes, one not being as easy to see on my paternal grandmother’s charm bracelet.

Sleep, Precious Sleep! — December 4, 2015

Sleep, Precious Sleep!

I might have mentioned how tired I am trying to adjust to working full-time again. It is so odd as I have always been used to working so hard, yet don’t remember ever being this shattered (must be my age)!  I have been in bed before 9 pm every night and slept pretty much all night. Miss Hap stays up later than I do.

Speaking of which, I had to stay up till 10 o’clock last night, ON A SCHOOL NIGHT!!! She is currently in Germany at the Cologne Christmas markets with the school, and we had to drop her off at 9.30 pm to get settled on the coach which was leaving at 10 pm.

Needless to say, today was busy at work and I had a student with me as well. Due to my ‘late night’ I was tired and a bit crabby, especially as we didn’t get back to the office to eat our lunch until 3 pm!

I am so glad it is Friday and I can wind down a bit (and stay up late if I want to, although I am usually too knackered)! Not so tonight anyway, we have to be at the school at  3.15 AM to pick her up!! Hmmmm. Looks like I’ll have to go to bed soon. Talk about being old before your time – I feel about 100!

Free-For-All Friday —

Free-For-All Friday

This week has been yet another manic one, and I have been really pushed for time, especially as a couple of evenings were cut short by me falling asleep way before 9 pm! What a rock n roll lifestyle I lead!

Anyway here are a couple of posts  that caught my eye that I wanted to share with you. Please visit their blogs as they have so much more to share with you.

A Cooking Pot and Twisted Tales  This was a great post. Jacqui has her own unique style and a wonderful way with words.

A New Perspective Perhaps A heart-warming story which has come at the right time, to bring back a little faith in humankind.

Short but very sweet this week.

Happy Friday!

Writespiration #69 — December 2, 2015

Writespiration #69

I keep threatening Sacha that I am going to have a go at her Writespiration Challenge but have been a bit scared due to the high calibre of the other writers that participate. However, I decided to jump on in any way, especially as she has dared us to participate this week with the protagonist being LGBT character.  Here goes!

The reflection in the mirror

Told her that she looked just great

The look she had put together

Was just perfect for a date.

The hair so sleek and stylish

The skirt above the knee

The sassy high-heeled sling backs

And the skimpy little tee

She had waited for this moment

For far too many years

Hiding her true feelings

Giving in to all her fears.

Finally she took the plunge

To make her dreams come true

She felt as though she was reborn

And her life could start anew

She sprayed a little perfume

As she walked outside the door

This time as a woman

Not the man she had been before.

Wacky Word Wednesday —

Wacky Word Wednesday

Welcome to Wednesday where I choose a wacky, weird or wonderful word that deserves to have its time in the spotlight. The one I have chosen for today is still used quite widely, but it is one that makes me laugh. We all know people like this, and I bet some of us are even guilty of it at times as well…

Skive. Ah yes, this is the shirker, sloping off work early, or nipping out every five minutes for a cig break or a loo stop.  It is the workshy waster wandering off when there is work to be done.  It is also the truant, bunking off school, or dodging disliked lessons, preferring to spend the day somewhere more exciting, yet not risk getting caught.

It is also the malingerer, feigning fake illnesses that stop them from working/going to school. They loaf around lethargically until the miraculous recovery kicks when they have got their way!

Needless to say, I was rubbish at it at school, and the one afternoon I did skive off, I got caught and found myself in the headmistresses office, being told I would NEVER amount to anything! (They were pretty strict in those days).

Have you ever had skiver itis?

Ronovan’s Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt. #73 ‘Black’ & ‘White.’

This week Ron has given us ‘black’ and ‘white’ to work with for his weekly Haiku Challenge.

I have had a bit of fun with it this week. Despite not being much of a Star Trek fan I have taken a bit of a liberty!

Today I am looking at work. In my job, I see so many people struggling with things many of us take for granted.

When you hate the thought of getting out of bed and going to work, remember there are those that would give anything just to be able to get out of bed, let alone have the strength to work.
