Thank you so much to Chris for having me over to chat about my newbook 🙂

Judy Martin 01What a privilege it is to be here on Chris’ blog amongst all these wonderful people. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to tell you a little about myself.

Well, my name is Judy. Actually, it is Judith but no one EVER calls me that, except perhaps my mum when I was younger and she was mad. My family and most of my friends call me Jude except one of my nieces who calls me Scrude sometimes (she likes to rhyme as well)! I get a bit cross though if my nieces and nephews they forget to add the ‘aunty’ on most of the time (even though some of them are in their 30s)!

Talking of my family, I am the second youngest of six children, which meant that I didn’t really get much of a chance to get a word in edgeways, especially as I was a shy…

The Great Book of Lists Chapter 3.1: A Party of Choice — March 17, 2016

The Great Book of Lists Chapter 3.1: A Party of Choice

Me and my guests!

This week’s list is all about people. We can choose whoever we like, living or dead, famous or not. The Duchesse would like us to list who we would  most like  to meet. This is going to be a tricky one, I think, but here are some people I would love to meet:

  • Maya Angelou. Since I came across her book ‘I know why the caged bird song’ several years ago, I have been impressed by how she made something of herself despite the awful tragedies and setbacks encountered in her life, not to mention the discrimination she suffered! She was a wise woman and an inspiration.
  • Elvis Presley. Now, being rather partial to a handsome man, I would love to meet him when he was at his prime. Not only would he be wonderful to look at, (I think he was one of the best-looking men ever),  but he would be able to serenade us all with his beautiful voice too!
  • Stephen Fry. I wish I had an iota of this man’s wit and intelligence. He would be the ideal guest, regaling us with his hilarious anecdotes, plus I am sure we would all learn something from him!
  • Henry VIII. Not only is this a damn good excuse to have a Medieval nosh-up, but I would love to find out what makes him tick, as he was a man of many contradictions!
  • Pam Ayres. I love her style of humorous poetry, so would definitely have to have her around so that I could pick her brains and get some fresh ideas!
  • Queen Elizabeth I. Just like her father she was quite a feisty character, a strong woman who did things her way.  What an interesting woman to chat to!

I think I would have to have several parties as I am sure there are plenty of others that I could invite!

Photography 101: Warmth & the Quality of Light

Today for our photography course, we are to think about light, specifically from the sun. Now, there was talk of front lighting and side lighting which I might have to swot up on a bit. Although it may sound obvious, I am not exactly sure of the fundamentals! I presume this shot is backlit due to the sun being behind the tree, but as I said, I need to get my head around exactly how they all work!

Photography 101:Natural World & Leading Lines

Today for our photography challenge, we are to go outdoors to the natural world and photograph something. It can be large or small. Whilst we are taking the photo, it is suggested that we look at the lines of the object.

I chose to take a close-up photo of a potted rose plant that Mr Grump bought me ages ago. It is outside at the moment and although parts of it are brown, it has a few of these tiny little leaves poking through the soil. I liked the pink tips of the leaves and their zig-zagged shape

Writers Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – “Wisdom” —

Writers Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – “Wisdom”

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

― Eleanor Roosevelt

Today for Colleen and Ron’s Writer’s quote Wednesday writing challenge, we are given the theme of wisdom. I think the above quote is so relevant to me and many others. We are so quick to put ourselves down or downplay our achievements as we feel that others have done so much better, and therefore we could never match up. This is my take on it:

I know that I have a bit of a complex

It is probably because I am shy

I worry that people think I am standoffish

Because I stand silently by

At many a social occasion

When everyone’s chatting away

I am desperately trying

To think of something to say

I don’t live in a fancy residence

I don’t drive the trendiest car

I am not a brilliant genius

I feel that I am below par

But wait, who says I’m not worth it?

It is me that causes myself grief

I need to forget about others

And work on my own self-belief!

Wacky Word Wednesday —

Wacky Word Wednesday

Keep Calm

Welcome to another Wacky Word Wednesday, where I get to feature a word that is weird, wonderful, or just downright wacky! Today I have a word that I use quite a  bit. as not only do I like the sound of it, but it is something that I always seem to be doing!

Faffing. This is a dithering and dallying kind of word. Procrastinating and pondering instead of just getting on with it! Mucking around and all that malarky, putting off the important stuff, preferring to  prat about with the piffling things.

It is fussing and fiddling, bumbling and fumbling about. Something that I seem to excel in!

Cold and Miserable! — March 15, 2016

Cold and Miserable!

Oh, my nose is so drippy

And my throat is all scratchy and sore

I am constantly sneezing

And my nose has been wiped till it is raw

One minute I’m cold and all shivery

And feel like I’m going to freeze

The next I am a raging inferno

And I’m performing a fevered striptease!

I’ve had enough of this cold now

And being all sniffy and snotty

I just want to start feeling better

Instead of looking and feeling so grotty!

Hopefully, it will be gone soon

As it has been hanging around for too long

It is time for it to move on now

And bugger off to where it came from!

Photography 101: BIG & Point of View

Walmer Windmill

Today it is time to think big for Photography 101, and also look at things from perhaps a slightly different point of view or a different angle.

I took this photo of a windmill as we were in the car travelling to Deal. I only managed to get it from the side, but I like the way the grass in the foreground looks slightly smudged due to the motion of the car.
