Stream of Consciousness – ‘Finger’ — February 6, 2016

Stream of Consciousness – ‘Finger’

socs-badge-2015

Last month I took part in Linda’s Stream of Consciousness for the first time. I enjoyed it so much I have decided to keep on going with it!  Today’s prompt is ‘finger.’

I have got quite chunky fingers which to me are not that attractive. I have always loved long nails since I was a child and took  some time to ensure that they were always well-manicured and looked pretty;  I imagine it was to make up for the chubby fingers!

I also love rings. A girl has got to have a bit of sparkle and I used to wear nearly every one I owned at the same time! This meant that nearly every finger was adorned with  at least one ring, if not two! Again, I think this was to make up for the clunky fingers, as at least they looked pretty (well, to me at least)!

Then I got involved in nursing. No long nails and definitely no nail varnish! Oh, and not only that, only one plain ring allowed. Not a bit of sparkle to be seen. My poor hands. already like shovels were now naked and exposed!

Today I am going to combine two of Linda’s challenges, Just Jot it January and Stream of Consciousness. Please check out her blog if you want to participate, you will find lots of other goodies there too.

The prompt word is ‘odds/even’

I wasn’t sure where to go with this one, The first thing that springs to mind is horseracing and betting. Now, seeing as I know absolutely nothing about this apart from when you place a bet, the odds of winning (especially for me) are pretty low!

I do actually have a bet on the Grand National once a year. It is the one and only time I will bet on anything, and it is only a very small amount of money. I choose my horse like I choose my car, if it looks nice, then I will go for it. Especially if the jockey is wearing yellow or gold, two of my favourite colours. Sometimes, I might even go by the name of the horse.

I don’t usually take any notice of the odds or past form, or whatever you are supposed to consider when placing a bet. I just enjoy the process of poring over the newspaper, and choosing a couple of horses. Mr Grump and Miss Hap choose theirs too, and then we walk down to the bookies to place the bet. (Well Mr Grump goes in, for some reason, I consider them dens of iniquity, and don’t want to go in there.

So, come 4 pm we are glued to the TV, cheering on our horses. Inevitably one of mine will have fallen pretty early on, but I have had third place before. I know that my mum and sisters are also having a go. so we usually have a bit of banter as to whose horse will get it.

A couple of years ago, Miss Hap’s horse won.Obviously, she is too young to bet, and we paid the stakes (if that is the right term). She was wild when we gave her a fiver out of the takings and kept the rest! (It wasn’t a huge amount).

Well, that’s a surprise. I have managed to write a whole post on horseracing after all, even though I don’t know anything about it!

Just Jot It January 16th – What #SoCS

Today I am going to be combining two of Linda’s challenges, Just Jot it January, and also Stream of Consciousness, please visit her blog if you want to find out details of how to join in. You will find loads of other goodies there too, so set aside some time!

What I love about the Stream of Consciousness posts is the freedom to go wherever the words take me. Yes, I have a prompt word, but it is still flexible enough for me to be able to go where I want to with it.

The negative side of writing one of these posts is that, apart from sorting out typos (thank God for that), we are not to edit the post at all. Now, I am someone who tends to just go off and write whatever comes to mind anyway, but I have been known to edit when it doesn’t make sense, which is more often than I would like.

I have to say, I am in awe of those people that always turn out a perfectly written blog post, and to be fair, it is common courtesy to ensure there are no typos or grammatical mistakes as the reader does not want to be mentally correcting as they go along. However, I have occasionally cringed as I have looked back on my previous posts and found the odd typo or spelling mistake, which I have immediately corrected.  I find that the more I look at something, the more I glaze over, and then I don’t end up seeing any errors.

I am a novice at writing Stream of Consciousness Posts, having only written a couple before, but funnily enough, these are the posts that I have struggled with not being able to edit, the most! Weird!

Just Jot It January 9th – Title #SoCS

Today I am combining Linda’s Just Jot it January prompt with the one for Stream of Consciousness. Please check out her blog for instructions on how to participate.

The first title that came into my head of a movie was ‘Grease.’ It had to be really, as it is my all-time favourite film. When it came out in 1978, I was twelve years old. I remember wishing that my secondary school was like Rydell High instead of the stuffy girls’ grammar school that I attended.

I had a massive crush on John Travolta’s Danny, but Jeff Conaway’s Kenickie was my favourite. He seemed more the ‘bad boy’ which has always attracted me. Plus he was so good looking and could dance too.

Nearly everything about this film appealed to me. I love 1950s fashion and still do. They seemed so much more feminine and flattering for women, and, the men in their leather jackets, t-shirts and jeans, looked like they knew how to handle themselves, and no doubt, their women too!

The cars were cool, and the music was brilliant too! I loved all of the songs and the dancing as well. The film really brought together all of the best elements of the 50’s, and with such a wonderful cast, they were on to a winner.

Even Rizzo came good in the end, and joined in, That last scene at the fairground with everyone enjoying themselves, singing a few catchy songs, always lifts my spirits. I have to confess to watching this film every time it is on! It is definitely, ‘The One That I Want!’

Just Jot It January 2nd – Pause/Paws #SoCS

Today I am going for another ‘first.’ I have decided to join in with Linda’s Stream of Consciousness posts as well as the Just Jot It January one!! Please check these out as they are great fun, and I have already met some wonderful new bloggers.

It is not often that I actually pause to think about what I am doing, or where I am going. I am a worrier which means that I very often go over and over things worrying about how I might be interpreted or whether or not I have unintentionally offended anyone, but that is different.

It would be beneficial to me I am sure to have some direction, as I tend to just blunder on through each day not really thinking about what I am doing. I do things ‘off the cuff’ quite often without thinking too much about it.

Even starting my blog, I had no clue really about what I was going to write about or how often I would post. It just sort of evolved really. I suppose in many ways, I could be accused of being careless, as I rush through, going from one thing to another. I decide that I want to do something then go for it putting everything into it. Then I go on to something else.

Maybe I am searching for something, I don’t know because I never pause long enough to find out!
