#JusJoJan 2018 January 31st and #1LinerWeds Thank You

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them. Sadly it is the very last day today and it is combined with One-Liner Wednesday as well.

Thank you Linda for another fun month of Just Jot it January, I have thoroughly enjoyed it, and it has gone far too quickly!

A short and sweet post today, to thank Linda for hosting #JusJoJan and to everyone else that joined in. It has been great fun using your prompts and reading your posts!

Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Adventure — June 14, 2016

Writer’s Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge – Adventure

It is Ronovan’s turn to suggest the prompt this week and he has come up with ‘Adventure’ for his and Colleen’s Writer’s Quote Writing Challenge Prompt. This quote seemed just perfect for where I was thinking of going this week with it. I have decided to write my poem about the Blogger’s Bash.

Every new friend is a new adventure…the start of more memories

–  Patrick Lindsay

This weekend I went on an adventure

I was determined to do it this year

Last time I was so regretful

That I let myself succumb to my fears.

My family didn’t think I would do it

Too many obstacles in my way

Anxiety, worries and shyness

Were not going to ruin my day!

Hubby dropped me off at the station

And I tentatively boarded the train

Despite getting all hot and bothered

I focused on what was my aim!

Ritu was there on the platform

With a huge smile on her face

Then off we went to meet Erika

Then had a coffee someplace!

Rich was not far behind us

The Blogily was now complete

We hadn’t got to the Bash yet

There were other bloggers to meet!

My nerves were now so much better

As we found our way to the pub

We met all of the committee

And Geoff had cooked up some grub!

Cakes of all kinds of flavours

He catered to every taste

I tried a bit of each one though

I couldn’t have them going to waste!

Hugh was doing the filming

And talking to every guest

Sacha was rocking her Louboutin’s

Definitely dressed to impress!

Ali was friendly and lovely

And welcomed us all with a smile

I was so pleased I had made it

I knew it would be so worthwhile

There were so many others present

Really there were quite a few

Many were faces I recognised

And I managed to chat with some of them too.

It was certainly a day to remember

I ‘m so glad I conquered my fear

And now I know I can do it

I can’t wait for this time next year!

A Special Guest Comes Calling. — March 20, 2016

A Special Guest Comes Calling.

Me and Daffy

Guess who came to dinner on Friday? It was none other than the lovely Daffy ( well actually it is Sandra), the wonderful person behind Wild Daffodil blog.

She was up this way on a textiles course and asked if we wanted to meet up. Of course, I did! After all, we had been in contact for a while, and as is the way with blogging, I already felt that I knew her quite well, so it would be a delight to meet her in person.

I was certainly not disappointed. Daffy is bright, bubbly and a real pleasure to be around. She is also very artistic and creative which sadly, I am not! It was wonderful looking at what she had made in her textile course and the thought and love she puts into her projects.

We had a very pleasant evening with lots of laughs, (even Mr Grump was cracking smiles). Unfortunately, it was over too soon though as the time had raced by at an alarming rate.

The whole experience just reinforced my belief of how wonderful and genuine bloggers are. We both certainly agreed that we are privileged to belong to such a wonderful community of friends.

The Great Book of Lists Chapter 1.3: The List of Desires — January 19, 2016

The Great Book of Lists Chapter 1.3: The List of Desires

This week’s list for La Duchesse d’Etat’s Great Book off Lists  is all about our hopes and wishes for 2016. Not necessarily specific goals or resolutions, just things that we would like to accomplish. Here is mine:

  • Attend the Annual Blogger’s Bash  in June. I am hoping to be able to go this year. It will be so exciting meeting up with fellow bloggers who I have come to know over the past year and a half. Many of you already seem like friends that I just haven’t met yet and I am so looking forward to actually seeing you in the flesh!
  • I’d really like to get stuck into editing and re-writing the book that I did for NaNoWriMo. I have had some really helpful and constructive feedback to what I have done so far, and this has spurred me on to want to make something out of it.
  • Get a grip, and make some lifestyle changes. I know this sounds like a resolution and it is, kind of, but I actually need to do it for the sake of my health. Luckily, there are two blogs that I follow that are very helpful here. Sally gives loads of helpful information and tips about nutrition, and I know I can ask her anything aout diet, and she would be able to help, plus she has been on a huge weight loss journey herself so understands the problems that can arise, trying to lose weight. Likewise Colleen, with her ‘Mindful Mondays’ gives advice, encouragement and support to those of us that are trying to embark on a healthier lifetsyle.
  • Take a few more Future Learn courses. I do love these little mini courses, as they are so interesting. I know I have mentioned them before, but for someone like me, that likes to learn about all kinds of different things, these bite sized lessons can give me a little insight into all sorts of subjects, and feeds my brain the knowledge it craves!
  • Get down to the beaach more often! Despite only living about twenty minutes or so from the seaside, I hardly managed to get down there last year, for one reason or another. This year, I am going to make the most of it!
Ready to Welcome the New Year. — December 31, 2015

Ready to Welcome the New Year.

Well, what a year 2015 turned out to be for me. It has certainly been a time of change and trying new challenges. I left my job at the hospital after five and a half years and found a new job working out in the community, visiting people in their homes.

I also took part in the NaNoWriMo in November and completed my very first novel. Well, it is not exactly complete as there is still lots more editing left to do! As yet, I am not sure how far I am going to go with it, but it would be a dream fulfilled to get it published, (should it be worthy of course).

The one thing that has been consistent throughout all the ups and downs of this year has been my blog and you, my wonderful blogging friends. You have been there to offer comfort, encouragement, advice, and support. I have laughed, cried and learned lots from your various posts as well.  You never cease to amaze and surprise me. The way we all pull together at times is something I am extremely proud of. No matter what time of day or night, I know there is always someone here I can talk to, and interact with, regardless of subject matter.

I have not set that many goals for 2016, but for those of you that have, I wish you every success in achieving them. I wish every one of you health, love and happiness in 2016 and I am looking forward to continuing to share your journeys, as you share mine!

Cheers! 🍷🍷🍷🎇🎇

A Heartfelt Thank You — December 8, 2015

A Heartfelt Thank You

Just a short post to thank all of you who follow my blog. I have now reached 1000 followers and am thrilled.

I know it may sound clichéd, but it really is not so much the number of readers that I have, it is the interactions that I have with some of you that makes it so special.

I do love a bit of banter and I get plenty of that, I love to laugh, some of you have me in stitches, you are so funny. I love to learn things, many of you have taught me things, whether it be about blogging, photography or taking part in NaNoWriMo! I enjoy a good story or poem, which I get from you. To put it in a nutshell, between you, I get a good laugh, shed a few tears, become outraged, stretch my brain cells (taking part in some of your challenges), and am inspired by the challenges so many of you have overcome.

The most important thing of all that you have given me, though, is your time; time to read my ramblings, time to comment on something, time to explain something to me, time for encouragement. This I truly appreciate, especially as it is in such short supply.

So, I just want to say again.

THANK YOU! 🙂

3 Day Quote Challenge: Day 3

My dear friend Erika has nominated me to take part in this challenge again. Please visit her blog for a daily dose of music, wisdom and enlightenment. I am so pleased she nominated me for this challenge as it is one of my favourites.

Challenge rules:

  1. Post 3 quotes on 3 consecutive days
  2. Thank the person who nominated you
  3. Nominate 3 new bloggers each single day of the challenge

In light of the season, and recent events, I am going with a theme of thankfulness, and the ‘quotes’ are my own.

For the last day, after posting on family and work, this post will be about leisure. and of course, you all know what my favourite leisure activity is 🙂

For me, being a part of the blogging  community is having a wealth of taleneted, empathetic,  funny, and articualte people as my neighbours who are always there for a chat and a bit of advice.

I’m Not Good At Goodbyes! — October 27, 2015

I’m Not Good At Goodbyes!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “If You Leave.”

I was going to write a little update about my new job this week, but when I saw this prompt about leaving, I thought I would tie it in as it fits perfectly.

I am not a person who likes change very much. As you may have gathered, I am very routine oriented, set in my ways, and I suppose, a bit of an old stick-in-the-mud really. however I knew that i was going to have to bite the bullet and make a change in my life, or shut up moaning about it!

Without going into details, work at the hospital had changed since I had started there some five and a half years earlier. I used to love going in to work every morning and was always upbeat about it. A year later, I ,moved wards as part of some training I was doing and stayed there for the remainder of the time.

The camaraderie amongst the staff was what kept me there for so long; they are a wonderful team and coped with numerous changes without a lowering the quality of care they gave to the patients. Then slowly, but surely, and for various reasons. staff started leaving, and the dynamics were changing, as was the atmosphere. Morale was pretty low by the time the 20th person in a year had left, and I must admit, this was when I decided it was time to go.

Nothing stays the same of course, and sometimes change is for the better, but it did not make me feel better at all. When the job came up in the community, I decided to go for it. As you know, much to my surprise and delight, I got the job!

I then panicked for a bit as it meant change, and although I wanted it, I was worried about starting again. After all, I knew everyone at work, and they all knew me, Not only that but I was confident in my job and knew what was expected of me. In my new job, I would be learning a totally different way of using my skills with a whole new group of people who I didn’t know.

Well, I made the decision to take it. I knew that it was the right thing for me to do. I was not happy at the hospital anymore, and I would be a miserable influence on others which isn’t fair.So here i am, three weeks in and on a week off already! (I had already booked this week off for half term)!

I have been welcomed by the team who all seem to be very friendly. I have learned lots of new techniques, new ways of doing things, and have made friends with Mr SatNav who is going to be a constant companion to me due to my useless sense of direction!

It is going to take me a little while to get re-acquainted with full-time hours, but I know I can do it, (After working for 18 hours per day in a kebab shop 6 days a week in the past, I am sure I can hack a 37.5 hour week)!

My only regret is not saying goodbye properly to the staff at the hospital. I did not want a leaving do as it is not my thing really, and I ended up going very quickly in the end, once the paperwork was sorted this end, so there were some staff I hadn’t seen at all! Mind you, I am not good at goodbyes and bawled my head off on my last day at the hospital!

Happy Blogiversary! — September 18, 2015

Happy Blogiversary!

Who would have thought it? I have reached a milestone that, just over a year ago I would never have heard of, let alone be celebrating. Yes, I have been blogging now for a whole year!

It’s funny, but I am extremely proud of my little blog. I can understand how authors consider their book their ‘babies,’ as I am of a similar mind about my blog. I gave birth to it, nurtured it, coaxed and cajoled it. I have fed and clothed it, making it look as pretty as I can with limited resources and experience!

I am delighted with the friends I have made because of it, have oohed and ahhed over other people’s babies’ achievements and milestones (even been a little envious if they are more advanced than mine)!!

I am humbled when others praise it, want to visit and interact with it. That puffs me up with parental pleasure and pride.

I have taken on challenges, learned many new skills, stretched myself in ways I could never have dreamed of, and not only that, enjoyed it all immensely!

Thank you to each and every one of you that reads my blog, interacts, comments or shares, please know that you are all very much appreciated. I am sure that had I not had such a warm and friendly welcome to this wonderful community, I would never have lasted this long.

Because of you all, I am still here a year later and intend to be here for as long as you can put up with me!

Thank you 🙂
