Free-For-All Friday!! #1 — March 13, 2015

Free-For-All Friday!! #1

Welcome to my first Free-for-all Friday. Today is all about sharing each other’s work. I was partly inspired by Josh over at My Friday Blog  who decided that he would rather not accept any more awards due to all the work involved. However, on the last award he did accept, he did a little added extra which is what I would like to incorporate into my free-for-all.

I will be sharing links of posts that I have enjoyed throughout the week, and would encourage you all to go and have a look yourselves. It may not be the type of blog that you would normally read, but it is so enriching to broaden the horizons, learn something new, or see something from a different perspective.

Below are some of the brilliant posts I have enjoyed this week, and I would love it if you could post a link in the comments to a post that has touched you in some way, be it funny, sad, enlightening, whatever, it doesn’t matter (this is where I nicked Josh’s idea). It’s just lovely to be able to share with each other something  we enjoy.

Wendy Of The Rock. Now this post really made me laugh. It is something that most of us can identify with, Having kids that think we are a ‘fail’ when it comes to being a cool Mum! There is a bit of swearing in this, but it is well worth a read.

Fill Your Own Glass. This is a great post for looking on the positive side of life. You know how some of us tend to get bogged down with always being negative, well Karen has given us a great tip on how to start the day on a cheery note.

Emmanuel Muema. This post is a very erotic poem and Emmanuel is a very talented young man; I have read several of his poems, and enjoyed them all. However they are a bit ‘racy’ !

Inventing Real Life This post was Marti’s account of a terrible road accident that she had been involved in, which she recounts on the anniversary of the event. This really touched me in many ways.

My Friday Blog. This post by Josh is a post cancer bucket list. I have only recently started following Josh’s blog, but I love it. He is very direct and speaks his mind, He is also very funny (sometimes I don’t even think he realises it)!

My Spanglish Familia This post really made me roar my head off! I love La Sabrosona’s mad sense of humour! She is definitely a woman after my own heart. She likes a double entendre as much as I do, and a bit of smutty humour. This is great!

Beyond The Picket Fence This post was another inspirational one. It is about finally succeeding even though nobody thought that you would be able to do it. It just goes to show what self-belief and a positive attitude can achieve.

But I Smile Anyway… Ritu is a prolific blogger and is absolutely brilliant! She writes poems, anecdotes and everything else in between! This post is part of a ‘Flash Fiction Foray’ I thought it was a really great story and a very clever ending!

My OBT Donna always has such wonderful and different posts. I have not only screamed with laughter at some of the stuff she has on here, but have been educated as well. This particular post is so funny, it amazes me the things people will buy. Check this stuff out!

Joeyfully Stated. This post is really sweet, about the interaction of a dog and cat! Joey has a great blog. She says what she thinks, and I love her style of writing. She makes me laugh a lot too! Oh, she does use a bit of swearing at times as well, but do check her blog out!

So there you have some of my favourite posts this week. I know you are going to enjoy them, and please don’t forget to leave links in the comments to your own favourite post this week.

Episode 214: Imitation Is The Best Form of Flattery? — March 11, 2015

Episode 214: Imitation Is The Best Form of Flattery?

Many of us have seen something advertised, or admired something that  a famous person has worn and wondered where we could get one. Now a lot of us don’t really have the budget to spend large amounts of money on the ‘designer’ version, so if we see a cheaper one we jump at it. We never learn do we?!

Now, eBay and Amazon very often have things that are similar in style to the original, but you really do have to be realistic about your expectations! For a start the materials used in the knock-off version may be a lot cheaper; fabric may be thinner and not hold its shape, or maybe it is a little more transparent than the original.

We all know that ‘you get what you pay for’. However, I did feel a bit sorry for one poor woman. She ordered a dress that was worn by an actress which was pretty revealing. Now this actress no doubt had access to stylists as well to help her look her best. The woman who bought  the dress which was advertised as ‘soft, comfortable and breathable’ could not wait for it to be delivered.

As soon as it arrived she got straight into it. Being the type of dress it was, no underwear was required as it would spoil the look, but the buyer decided that pink slippers would be a wonderful accessory to showcase the outfit to the best advantage.

She must have been thrilled with how it looked as she immediately posted some pictures of herself on the seller’s website. I admire her, she is one brave woman!

Episode 211: Get it Write! — March 10, 2015

Episode 211: Get it Write!

You may remember that I wrote about that poor woman who had the eyebrow tattoos which were absolutely awful here well I have recently heard about someone else who has just had a tattoo he rather regrets!

Now most of us love a good song! Yes music can really define us, it can be the soundtrack to our lives; there is that one song that just says it all for us. When I find a song like that I will play it to death until I get sick of it and ,move on to something else.

That is not enough for some people though. Oh no! They need to go and get the name of the song, or the line or perhaps a verse tattooed permanently on their body (so they don’t forget the words when they are old perhaps). They might even go the whole hog and get the artist/band/group name etched into their skin as well, for good measure.

I have nothing at all against tattoos, I even have one (not too big, as it is too bloody painful) myself. Plus Mr Grump has quite a few, one of them, with my name on, so I do rather like them.

However, if you are going to get something as a permanent tribute to your favourite song by your favourite band then for Christ’s sake, get it right! Check that the tattooist has understood exactly what you want otherwise you could end up with one like the poor guy on my picture!

I prefer Slack Babbath myself!

Episode 206: Sing-A-Long Sunday — March 8, 2015

Episode 206: Sing-A-Long Sunday

I do love those off-the-cuff days, where you have nothing planned as such, and things take an unexpected but really pleasant turn…..

My younger sister (Mrs Masterchef) phoned and asked Mr Grump if he had some tools, as she had a new water-butt that needed installing, and as the weather was glorious again today, it  was ideal to do the job. Her husband (Mr Musician) is not renown for his DIY skills and we were invited to their house so that Mr Grump (who is very handy) could help if necessary.

Miss Hap was visiting nanny and playing with friends there so didn’t come with us, I had decided that i would wear my lovely  high heels to match my outfit that wasn’t black (for once). Anyway once we got there and saw them in their wellies and working clothes I felt a bit over-dressed teetering about in my clod-hoppers!

I made myself comfortable out in the sun and left Mrs Masterchef and Mr Grump grappling with a standpipe and a hacksaw, and Mr Musician at the very top of the garden digging it over, and pulling out huge roots that had more meat on them than he did!

I did occasionally wander over to see how they were getting on fitting the water butt and cringed when i saw a hairline crack had appeared in one of the fittings, after a bit of manhandling by Mr Grump. Time for a cup of tea I think! All of them were on the booze so I put the kettle on for myself, but spilt water all over the worktop as the lid came off the water jug.

Once the work was done and they had tidied up, Mr Musician went to get his guitar for a bit of a sing-along. I love these occasions, as both he and my sister have fantastic voices, and they sing so well together too. Myself and Mr Grump decided to lower the tone a bit and we crooned along. I thought we all did a brilliant version of  ‘Dreadlock Holiday’ that 10cc would have enjoyed.

By this time the high heels that were killing my feet had been kicked  off, and Mrs Masterchef’s fluffy bootie type slippers put on. One of the advantages of being in the company of family (especially when they are the same shoe size)!

Time went all too quickly before we needed to go home to have dinner and prepare for work and school tomorrow, I just love those kind of chilled days, enjoying the company of family. Oh and as an added bonus; since I have given up smoking my voice is not as croaky as before, and I occasionally even hit the right note!

Episode 201: Boasting of Posting! — March 6, 2015

Episode 201: Boasting of Posting!

There’s something that I am quite proud of
Although it is not pleasant to boast
Even though it’s been only six months now
I have written my 200th post!
Some of them have been rather silly
Others have turned out quite sad
One of two have ended up funny
But most are stark raving mad!
At times I like to throw in a poem
Oh how I love a good rhyme
The problem is now I’m addicted
Blogging takes up all my time!
I blog when I get chance to
After finishing work for the day
I read other blogs in the meantime
To see what they have to say
I can’t stop this mad blogging habit
I’m finding it is rather fun
Oh hang on, I think I have new post now
Yep, that’s made it 201!

Episode 197: Someone Like Me… — March 5, 2015

Episode 197: Someone Like Me…

Todays’ Blogging 101 assignment is to publish a post you’d like your ideal audience member to read, and include a new-to-you element in it.

Hmmm, this is a bit tricky as I don’t have a specific audience member in mind. I am just bloody grateful I have an audience at all really! So for the purpose of today’s task, I am going to base my ideal  audience member on someone like me. An ordinary person who blunders their way through life leaving a trial of havoc in their wake! Yes, someone who can bang into, trip over or knock down anything and everything! A klutz of the highest order.

This person actually loves interacting with other people, and actually once they get to know you, will appear to be quite outgoing and confident. On first meeting them though they will appear shy and awkward. They will smile nervously but not contribute much to the conversation unless asked directly to do so. Then they will stumble over their words and blush a lot!

This person loves to see the funny side of things. They have a wicked sense of humour, and a very dirty laugh. They can make something out of nothing and the double entendre is their best friend. Bursting into inappropriate laughter at times such as when they were asked to go and find a ‘scrotal sling’ for an unfortunate patient is second nature to them. When something tickles them, they are no longer shy, and usually succumb to the odd snort of laughter, hurriedly disguised as a cough!

This  person would love the sillier things in life. The more ridiculous the better, and they will suddenly chuckle to themselves when it comes to their mind. They also love to tell others about it so they can share the laughter.

Well there you have it. This was by no means intended to be an egotistical post. I just thought that the type of person who would enjoy my blog would have some similarities to me!

I have included a clip of one of my favourite characters, Sir Lancelot Spratt, played by the superb James Robertson Justice. I know it is dated a bit now, but I just love his accent, the way he shouts at everyone terrifying them. Plus it is set in a hospital, which is right up my street anyway!

Enjoy!

Episode 190: This is Me — March 2, 2015

Episode 190: This is Me

I decided that I would participate in Blogging 101 this month as I am still rough around the edges when it comes to blogging! I wanted to learn more so here I am on day one. The task for today is to introduce myself and tell everyone why I am here. so here goes!

To start with, my name is not actually Edwina. It is my middle name, and I originally used it because I wanted to remain anonymous. I don’t mind being called Edwina at all though, as it is much prettier than my actual name of Judy! As I have plastered my blog all over my Facebook account now, and am no longer anonymous, it doesn’t matter which of the two names you want to call me.

My blog is all about trying to see the funnier side of life. I don’t think we have enough laughter in our lives. There is all the hustle and bustle, and stresses of everyday life that wind us up and stress us out, and I just want to try to put a smile in there somewhere to break it up a bit!

The fact that I suffer from  anxiety can sometimes make it a bit tricky to try to think of something funny, but at the same time, I have found blogging does help me with my own issues, it is very cathartic.

Anyway, I like writing about the mundane (the everyday situations we all find ourselves in); the silly (I do love a bit of silliness! I am always showing myself up by doing the wrong thing, or putting my foot it); the wacky (occasionally, I read a news story that is really strange or weird) or just the bloody ridiculous! (Anything and everything else).Sometimes I even like to write a little rhyme or poem, just to add a bit of variety.

I like to put my own take on things, and although my personal stories and experiences are all true, I have written them from the humorous angle, preferring to see the funny side of a situation. The point of this is to make the reader (hopefully) smile, or if I am really lucky, chuckle. I would love it if I could get a guffaw, bellow or roar of laughter, but this blog is still young!

One last point. I do love to hear from people. I am lucky that I do have people who comment on my blog. I love to interact with people and hear their stories and experiences as well, especially the funny ones. Or just pop in to say hello.

As the great Charlie Chaplin once said,  ‘A day without laughter is a day wasted’

Episode 31: Let’s go NaBloPoMo!! — November 1, 2014

Episode 31: Let’s go NaBloPoMo!!

I have decided to take part in  ‘NaBloPoMo’ (National blog post month)  which entails posting every day throughout the month of November. Although I have only been blogging for just over a month, I have found that I am really enjoying it!  I also love reading other people’s blogs;  there are so many interesting, talented and funny people out there, and I am thrilled to be part of this huge blogging community….

I don’t have any special talents;  I am useless at DIY (the clock in my front room is hiding a lovely gouge in the wall where I was let loose with a drill once), I am not at all arty or crafty (I do attempt sewing on a regular basis, despite the fact that most of my projects involve a lot of swearing, unpicking, wonky seams, and items that don’t quite fit properly). However, I DO love words, and making people laugh if I can…..

As we all know, life can be a struggle at times, we all get days where everything goes wrong, or we feel hopeless, or useless (I get those all the time),and there are other days where everything goes perfectly, or something has struck you as funny, and has left you with a smile on your face all day!

We all need a bit of laughter in our lives; yes, things do go wrong of course, we have all had moments where we have felt stupid or made fools of ourselves, but rather than dwell on them, cringing with embarrassment, I prefer to just write about it, and laugh at myself (or others)! If I can make someone else smile or laugh whilst reading my silliness, then so much the better!

You can expect from my blog, just the musings, ranting and silliness that makes up everyday life, which I hope most people will be able to relate to in some way, I do not lead a glamorous life, or go travelling to lots of wonderful and exotic places, nor will there be delicious recipes to tempt you, or beautiful things that I have made to inspire you, No, afraid not, (well I might post the odd pic to show off if something that I have made if it actually turns out as it is supposed to, for once)!

I will however, be writing about myself and my family, mainly Mr Grump (long-suffering husband),and  Miss Hap (beautiful, feisty, but clumsy daughter, hence the nickname). I do have a load of other family members who might make the odd appearance now and again, plus we have a beautiful little dog, who also gets a mention.

I work part-time in a very busy hospital ward, and along with my fellow nursing staff, look after 27 elderly patients, which in itself can be pretty challenging as well as rewarding at times. Occasionally funny things happen at work which I also like to write about.  In fact, I like to write about anything and everything.

So in a nutshell, that’s me and my blog. Please feel free to leave any comments, it’s always lovely to hear from people, I hope you find something here that resonates  with you, and raises a smile!
