First Week Nearly Done! — October 15, 2015

First Week Nearly Done!

Well, as you can see by my pic, I am still not feeling well! Despite the dark circles under my eyes from the lack of sleep and the red and sore nose from the snotty nose, not to mention the aching ribs from constant coughing and sneezing, I have now finished the first stage of training and nearly completed my first week.

There are always positives though so this is what has been great about this week:

  • I got to wear some lovely nail varnish and had beautiful looking nails all week (well until 10 mins ago, when I removed the polish and cut the nails ready for the first day at my actual workplace tomorrow)!
  • I met some great people from all sorts of professions in the Health Service, and we had some very interesting discussions.
  • The trainers were all so keen and enthusiastic, plus there were a couple of real characters amongst them that made the sessions so much fun!
  • I visited a small hospital today for some training that I had never been to before and was so impressed with their tiny little shop, that I bought this lovely new mug for a snip at 50p! Yes, 50 pence!

New Mug

I have been pretty lax at reading blogs this week due to early nights and feeling grotty. I am going to try and catch up a bit tonight and over the weekend. That is why I have not commented much on anyone’s blogs.

Off To a Great Start! — October 13, 2015

Off To a Great Start!

As some of you may know, I started my new job yesterday. Well actually, I started the training for my new job yesterday. I have been looking forward to this for some time, especially after some of the trials I had, gathering together all of the paperwork I needed!

There must be something about Monday mornings that my body doesn’t care for as I woke up feeling lousy! Now, I didn’t have to be at the offices (which as it happens are a 10 minute walk from my house) until 9am, so that in itself is a major bonus, giving me both a lie-in and a pleasant walk.

Too bad ‘the virus’ decided to make a comeback, determined to finish what it had started only a couple of weeks ago! Oh yes, and just to mix it up a little. let’s throw in a few really large mouth ulcers so that not only will I be talking in that nasally twang, you get with a snotty/bunged up nose, but  my words will be distorted and garbled as well due to my sore mouth!

Anyway, I got through yesterday, not too badly, apart from nearly spontaneously combusting in the training room as I was so hot. Luckily they turned up the air conditioning (yes, it is a new office building), and I tried to ignore that people behind me were reaching for their cardigans and coats! I sensibly, came home, dosed up on tablets and had an early night.

Today, I felt  worse but had the knowledge that I was in for an early finish due to having a full day extra training on Thursday along with a few other clinical staff. I had the grace to keep my snotty tissue in my hand though and try to control my sneezing when we covered the segment regarding infection control!

Not a great start to my new job but at least it should have cleared up before I go out and see my patients!

One-Liner Wednesday. That’ll Make Me Feel Better!!! — September 30, 2015

One-Liner Wednesday. That’ll Make Me Feel Better!!!

“Take one or two of these mixed in a little water before bed….be careful though as you might vomit. I did when I took them!”

Some advice from my GP today when I went to see here with a severe sore throat and ‘bumpy’ painful tongue.

She gave me some strong pain killers to take before bed when my throat is at its worst, and my tongue feels like it is going to dry up and fall off!

Not sure if they are going to make me feel better or worse!
