Year Two of Being A Student Nurse — February 14, 2019

Year Two of Being A Student Nurse

Only another few weeks and that will be the end of my second year in my training to become a registered nurse. I know everyone told me how quickly the time would pass, and it seems they were right. I have chronicled my journey so far in a couple of poems here and here and thought it only fitting that I should write a poem about how I got on in the second year.

During the second year of my nursing degree

There was so much we had to do

Not only were there assignments to write

But Clinical placements too

I’ve written a digital story

About person-centred care

Also critiqued and reflected

Whilst tearing out my hair!

Learned about diseases I hope I never get

And the drugs that treat them

Which I pray I don’t forget!

An important group presentation

Where things could get quite fraught

And of course, applying theory to practice

In everything we’ve been taught!

Despite my doubts and worries

That I would be able to succeed

I am still hanging in there

So, bring it on year three!

#Writespiration 52 Weeks in 52 Words Shoes — November 8, 2017

#Writespiration 52 Weeks in 52 Words Shoes

This week for Sacha’s #Writespiration challenge we are to write a day in the life of a pair of shoes. Not only that but we have to use only 52 words!

We may not be sexy and chic

Worn every day of the week

It’s comfort, not style

That makes us worthwhile

And the fact we don’t leak!

We never complain of our fate

Squashed beneath all her weight

Stomping all day long

Still going strong

Despite looking a bit of a state!

Episode 484: Back To Work. — September 6, 2015

Episode 484: Back To Work.

How time flies! Tomorrow it is back to work for me, after having had a week off. I had been looking forward to having a couple of days for myself at the end of last week as Miss Hap went back to school and Mr.  Grump was working. (Pah, he went and got Man ‘Flu which put paid to my peace and quiet).

The topsy-turvy hours that I worked are also over, so there are no more nights for a while. They are not so bad, it is just the lack of sleep in the daytime that I can’t get a handle on!

As I mentioned, I have been offered a new job which I am excited about but I have to wait for the security checks to be done which can take ages so I have to wait before I hand my notice in which is pretty frustrating as I just want to get stuck in now. Patience is not exactly my strong point, except of course when dealing with my patients!
