Now I admit that I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to creepy crawlies etc, and of course now that summer is well and truly on its way, I am going to be constantly nagging Mr Grump to come and deal with any that happen to get in my way!
I have tried to be really careful that I do not pass this trait down to Miss Hap but it seems I have failed. Around 6am this morning when I was eating my breakfast and Mr Grump was out with the dog, she came thundering down the stairs in rather a hurry! This in itself was unusual because normally it takes forever to get her up and motivated on a school day and also she does not like to hurry, especially in the mornings.
It turns out there was a HUGE (her words) spider in her room and I needed to go and get it out immediately. Well I am afraid to say, I wasn’t going! I had already had a run in with a daddy-long-legs that dive-bombed me whilst I was on the loo, and that was far closer than I was going to get to any spiders. Mr Grump was still out, so after 10 mins Miss Hap decided (with my encouragement) that it had probably scuttled off somewhere else and to go back to bed.
At break time today at work, three of us went to sit on the smoker’s bench just by the car park (I haven’t restarted smoking, but way too hot to stay indoors). The nurse sitting next to me on the bench started flailing about screaming, so I jumped up as well as she said something was in her hair!
She managed to flick it off and it turned out to be this little chap. I have never seen a spider like him before. He has this almost fluorescent green body (looks radioactive to me) and was running around all over the place.
I wanted to get a pic of him as he was so unusual but was scared to get too close, so this is the end result which is not very good I know, but you can still see the glowing green bit of him! Has anyone else seen this weird type of spider.? (Now to us of course, he seemed ENORMOUS but I think he was probably about as big as a thumbnail!

Spiders are creepy! Although I came over my phobia I don’t want to have them around. But I am that far that I take a glass, catch them, and drop them outside. In some way I am sorry for them that everybody hates them.

I feel bad that nobody likes them but I still can’t go near them! 🙂

My wife is the same, I got her to accept spiders by telling her that their primary purpose in life is to eat other bugs.

Well there is that, but they can go and do it somewhere else! 🙂

But, then, think of all the bugs they eat in your house that would now be around to, uh, bug you!

Ha Ha! Nice! Ok then, they can come in and eat all the bugs whilst I am at work! 🙂

I don’t mind spiders. I do, however, have a huge dislike of roaches. They creep me out completely.

I don’t like spiders, but I’m not as bad as I was. Living in the country as we did, we had some very large and hairy visitors. Hubby had two spider catching kits….. coaster and wine glass, or place mat and pint mug. One little sod was doing press ups trying to get out before taking flying lessons in the garden!
Now on the boat, we only have the little guys, if any at all. Apparently conkers keep the spiders away and there are LOADS of boats with dishes full of them!

I had never heard of conkers keeping spiders away, thanks for the tip! Ha! I like your hubby’s style with his kits! 🙂

They work too according to the lady three boats down. She hates them, and since getting her grandchildren to collect the conkers that are in rather attractive earthenware bowl on their back deck, she hasn’t had a single spider on board!

Oh no.
Well I don’t mind most spiders most times. A big black garden spider on my bedcovers was a start…
I’m the resident bug police. Most of em, I just take outside. I think the cats kill half of em.

If you’re curious, it seems to be a ‘Green Orb-Weaver’ (http://www.uksafari.com/gorbweaver.htm) which do have venom which can affect humans, but only cause minor irritation (http://www.answers.com/Q/Are_green_orb_weavers_dangerous_to_humans)
Just if you were curious 😉

Thanks so much Matt, I was indeed curious as I had never seen them before, It seems though as if they are pretty common here!

I don’t mind spiders but I do hate flies!
Your post reminded me a holiday many years ago when I was in a bar and one of my friends jumped up on his chair and started screaming and saying there was a mouse under the table. He screamed so much and made so much fuss about it that the whole bar started screaming and just about everone got up and stood on their chairs, all screaming.
Of course there were no mice and it had only been the breeze form the sea that had blown over his bare feet!

I don’t like spiders at all – which is unfortunate because they are very prolific where I live. There are the fat bodies ones that hang out over doors – I have been pooped on by a spider leaving my house after dark. Then there are the wolf spiders – enormous things that carry their babies on their back – I spied one out of the corner of my eye once and thought it was a mouse!

Christ, they sound horrendous! I know we don’t get that many varieties over here as compared to some counties, I would be no good at all where you live! 🙂

There is no way I could ever get Bud in every time I saw a bug. He do give a shout about snakes, though. They all look venomous to me.
