TJ’s Weekly Household Haiku Challenge – Windowsill. — March 5, 2016

TJ’s Weekly Household Haiku Challenge – Windowsill.

Window Sill.jpg

How comes TJ has so many wonderful photos in his collection, that are always so stylish?! For our challenge this week, he has given us ‘window sill’ for our prompt this week. Mine in the front room has recently been decluttered as my sister informed me that it wasn’t really the place for hair brushes and random bits and pieces!

The clutter has gone,

My special plant pot sits there

cheering up the room

For Linda’s Stream of Consciousness post this week, the prompt words are ‘this’ and ‘that.’ We gain bonus points for starting and finishing with one or the other of these words too.

This is quite an exciting time for me at the moment. It has been suggested by several fellow bloggers and some of my family that I really ought to collect some of my poems together and publish them. Well, I don’t really have the foggiest idea of publishing and even less about self-publishing, but I decided that I would look into it. After all, when I finished NaNoWriMo I had an account on Createspace just to see what the process was, should I decide to publish the book I wrote at a later date.

Anyway, to cut a long story short (I am going on a bit), it is almost finished. In fact, I just made an alteration when I proofread it, and as soon as it comes back I am ready to go!  I have got a fabulous cover (more about that when the book is ready) and have finally sorted out the formatting. My dear blogging friend Erika was talking about this just a couple of days ago for her new book and I was itching to say something then about mine but wanted to keep it secret until it was ready.

Of course, I am so excited and have blabbed now! My own poetry book (well rhymes), does that mean I am going to be an author now?! It is going to take a bit of time to get my head around that!

Writespiration #82: Nostalgia That Hurts — March 4, 2016

Writespiration #82: Nostalgia That Hurts

nostalgia

This week for Sacha’s Writespiration prompt we are asked to write about nostalgia that hurt.  For obvious reasons this poem is a little more serious than my usual ones!

I thought my life was over

The day I walked away

Ten years down the drain

Nothing left to say

I gave you everything I had

My heart, my love, my soul

But, you had never loved me

Just wanted to be in control

The day that we got married

You said that I was fat

Just two guests at our wedding

It was over in 10 minutes flat!

Then you became possessive

And wracked with jealousy

Stupidly I was pleased

Thought it meant you cared for me

I always wanted children

 You said you wanted none

Yet an affair I found out later

Had produced your eldest son

I really tried to make it work

But I became so trodden down

The final straw was knowing

That your wife had come to town.

I left your life with nothing

But a few clothes that I packed

And the freedom to be me again

And to never, ever look back!

Wendy of the Rock This post made me laugh, I could totally relate to it as well, sadly!

Like Mercury Colliding I just loved this. Kat wrote the perfect haiku for it.

Annette’s Place This is a lady after my own heart, and I enjoyed this.

Wild Daffodil Daffy is so clever and creative and this is just one of the many brilliant things she has made.

So there you have a real mixed bag of goodies to keep you going! Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Week 15 – Under — March 2, 2016

Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Week 15 – Under

Roxy's Hoodie

A great prompt for Hugh’s Weekly photo challenge with ‘under.’ I thought I would share with you a photo of Roxy under her hoodie!

I thought it looked cute on her but she hated it  and acted as though it were a straight jacket, walking oddly and trying to get it off.

Sadly, it lasted less than 10 minutes!

Wacky Word Wednesday —

Wacky Word Wednesday

Grotty!

I’ve hardly had time to blink, and it is Wednesday again! Time to unearth a wacky, weird or wonderful word  and give it an airing.

The word I have chosen for this week is to me, a wonderful word despite its meaning! It has that quality to it that makes it funnier,  the more it is said with derision; or at least, I think so!

Grotty. This is a second-rate, shabby kind of a word, a down at heel dive, or a sleazy shithole of a place. It’s cheap and nasty, grimy and well, pretty grim actually!

It is the kind of pub you go to where you wipe your feet on the way out! (I have seen my fair share of these over the years)! The tatty old threadbare carpet, and the crusty old curtains that are well past their prime. The chipped woodwork, and stained surfaces that you really wouldn’t want to become too well-acquainted with. The good old spit and sawdust kind of a place that is a mainstay in most towns, that despite its appearance is usually a fun place to be!

Another Little Limerick — March 1, 2016

Another Little Limerick

Stripper

This one I did on Al’s suggestion based on the prompt words for Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenge

There was a young stripper from Dorset

Who was busting right out of her corset

She flashed as she danced

As her boobs were ‘enhanced’

How she wished that she’d reinforced it!

Alphabet Leap Year Poem — February 29, 2016

Alphabet Leap Year Poem

A very special day is here

Because it doesn’t happen much

Cupid gets to play again

Deciding whose heart to touch

Every four years it comes around

For some it is quite thrilling

Getting ready for the moment

Hoping that their partner’s willing!

It takes a lot of courage and

Just a little bit of planning

Keeping so many secrets

Leading to misunderstanding

Making sure the moment’s right

Now what was I going to say?

Oh my God, I’ve lost my nerve

Perhaps another day

Quitting now is stupid

Really, it has to be tonight

Sitting here together

The setting is just right

Under the gleaming moonlight,

Velvet softness of the sky

Will you marry me I ask?

Xcitement  fills the air

Yes, I was hoping you would ask me

Zealous cheering everywhere!
