#SoCS Which, Witch, and Wich — October 28, 2017

#SoCS Which, Witch, and Wich

Linda has gone all out this week for our Stream of Consciousness posts and has given us which, witch and wich to use.  We have to start out posts with which and get witch in somewhere too for some bonus points  but if we try being clever and write which witch is which, then we lose all our points!

[clickToTweet tweet=”Which word is synonymous with Halloween to you? #SoCS” quote=”Which word is synonymous with Halloween to you?”] Is is vampire, ghost, zombie, or witch? Perhaps it is pumpkin or Trick or Treat that you associate with Halloween. When I was younger we never dressed up or went Trick or Treating as it was something that just didn’t exist at that time, or if it did I was not aware of it!  We played games like apple bobbing and frightened each other stupid with ghost stories instead. We were then too frightened to sleep but knew we had to by midnight or the witches might get us!

It doesn’t take long for times to change though. When my daughter was small I used to dress her up and we would go Trick or Treating, as she loved it! The square where we live and the streets nearby has loads of children so Halloween was a very busy night. The doorbell would be going every few minutes and the huge bowl of sweets would have to be refilled before we finally had to admit defeat at around 7pm when there was nothing left, and put a note on the door. No matter how many sweets we bought every year, we would still run out so early!

I never used to decorate much, but we always had a pumpkin (usually that we had grown in the back garden), but when my daughter got to around seven years old, I succumbed to buying some, and it was fun trying to make the house look spooky; I love looking to see how everyone else has decorated their houses too.

Mind you, it is another tradition that has changed. It seems to be more about the sweets and treats now than the fun and frights that I remember. I know which I prefer!

Writespiration # 83 – Blackout. — March 19, 2016

Writespiration # 83 – Blackout.

For this week’s Writespiration, Sacha has given us ‘blackout’- to use as our prompt. I wasn’t sure which way to go with it, but this is what I ended up with!

black-out-jpeg

As I sit there watching the big screen

All settled in for the night

Everything’s suddenly gone quiet

And someone has turned off the light.

The pitch black makes me feel nervous

I don’t like being here on my own

I can’t haven’t got any candles

And the where in the hell is my phone?

It feels like the set of a movie

Where the killer is hiding upstairs

Waiting until the right moment

To capture his prey, unawares

My heart is starting to race now

My throat is all parched and dry

I need to go to the toilet

And I’m just about ready to cry!

When, suddenly a massive explosion

Of light and sound dims my fears

I can relax and calm down now

As the opening credits appear.

Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 3 – What Lurks in the Shadows? — October 24, 2015

Hugh’s Photo Challenge: Week 3 – What Lurks in the Shadows?

Hugh has gone with the spooky and the scary this week of Halloween for his photo challenge.

The photo I have decided to share with you is a rather hideous spider! As you can see he looks as though he might glow in the dark with that luminous green body. I was informed by The Book Blogger that he could be an orb – weave spider, but to be quite honest, I did not get close enough to him to try to identify him.

At the time of this photo is was back in the summer when I was working at the hospital still. I had gone outside at break with a couple of nurses  and we sat on the ‘smokers bench’. This little fellow appeared, which sent us all off in different directions screaming! Give us blood and gore and we will be there poking about, but show us a spider or a wasp and you won’t see us for dust!

I was brave though as I took the photo (thank God for the zoom feature). The quality of course is not great as I took it as quickly as I could then got out of there!
